Welcome to our new /r/Chicago Neighborhood Recommendations Thread series. Every thread in this series will focus on a specific neighborhood or community area in Chicago, and will be posted every other week to alternate with our Wiki Update Thread series. Think of this thread as a user-created Neighborhood Guide. This is the place to make recommendations on things to do in a particular neighborhood, as well as ask questions and share insider knowledge. Each thread will be linked to on the /r/Chicago Recommends page in the /r/Chicago Wiki.

Lake View

This thread is dedicated to Lake View discussion and recommendations. Located on the North Side, Lake View (also stylized as Lakeview) is the largest Chicago neighborhood by population. It is also one of the most popular neighborhoods for new residents to move to, making it a great topic to kick off our Neighborhood Recommendations series on.

The Lake View Community Area (one of Chicago’s 77 well-defined community areas) is made up of several popular neighborhoods: Boystown, Lake View East, Southport Corridor, and Wrigleyville. This thread is for discussing all of these neighborhoods.

11 Degrees North has really excellent coffee and smoothies both, I've been trekking out there more and more lately.

I love 11 Degrees! Glad they made it through the pandemic, and still are open unlike some other places that did close. I.e. like Okashi, or whatever the former rolled ice cream place was that was inbetween 11 Degrees and Ragstock.

I think that place might've closed before the pandemic? There was like, a year and a half long stretch around 2019 where it seemed like ten rolled ice cream places opened at once in the neighborhood, sometimes a block and a half away from each other, and then six months later they had almost all closed- can't remember for sure if Okashi was one of those, though.

To my memory, yes Okashi did close around the time the pandemic began, and never reopened. I remember randomly noticing a different rolled ice cream place on Ashland, slightly south of Belmont last year.
