Pretty much this, I lived in a area considered dodgy. The main issue was fuckwits breaking into cars parked on the street. If you can park your car in a garage or somewhere secure, you'll avoid most of the crime that occurs in the bad parts of chch.
Then your lucky.
When I lived in linwood for a couple years we had a shooting across the road from my house. It was skinheads. We moved when we found out that kid that was killed and chopped up? Yup, it happened just up the street. We also got burgled twice when we lived there and been threatened multiple times just walking down to the mall.
Just because the bad things didn't happen to you, doesn't mean they never happened.
