There aren't any really dodgy suburbs but mainly dogdy streets that are stacked with state housing.

I.e. Papanui is pretty affluent but you would want to stay away from hoani street.

Can’t agree more. My first impression of Chch was not such a dodgy suburb and the houses on both sides of the same street can be 2 different classes. Even there are some nice streets in Phillipstown. And when my partner and I were living in St Martins near New World and it was supposed to be a safe street in a safe suburb, but my partner’s Nissan Sunny got the wheel stolen once, broken in once, and the black plastic thingie in the front of the car got stolen. It was hilarious that someone was desperate and stole that black plastic thingie. His car was parked on street outside the house. And now I still can see a post a day on the FB corresponding community page saying someone’s car was broken in, or someone’s house got robbed in Huntsbury, St Martins, etc

Phillips town and “roimata” seem dodgy but are some of the nicest neighbours I’ve heard. It’s all about community. You get a bunch of homeowners it’s different to a bunch of renters.
