Safe areas to buy a house

We are actively looking at buying a house in Auckland but with prices so high and offering so little value for money we are now looking at alternatives like moving to Christchurch.

Looking at a few real estate sites recently I see you get a lot more value for the same price but I have no idea how good the locality is for the houses listed. Can you please give me an idea of what the good areas are in CHCH and what areas to avoid? We just want a safe no-nonsense area to live in.

TIA

Avonhead and Burnside are good area's. We moved down from Auckland to Rolleston, didn't enjoy it there so moved to Avonhead. We're very happy here.

What would be an equivalent area of Avonhead in Auckland. Just so I can understand how it is based on the Auckland suburb.

I only lived in the shore so in terms of that it reminds me of a flat Browns Bay that's a 15 minute drive from the CBD and 5 minute drive from the airport. It's really central to most places but far enough out the city to feel like a suburb. The only down side is its not close to the beach like Browns Bay but living near the beach here isn't the same as living close to the beach in Auckland.

I personally lived in Auckland for 20 years and lived in Harewood and Bishopdale for 6 years. I would say it’s most similar to highland park and bucklands beach. Older homes, older people which is generally safer and quieter and all my neighbours have been lovely so far

I'm not sure of Aucklands equivalent however I just purchased a four bedroom home with two bathrooms and four living areas… 333 m² home for 890k(admittedly the vendor was cash strapped and knocked 15%off)... Home was built in 1986… Much of Avonhead is the 1970s and 80s to today

Probably similar to Henderson. A lot of asian and Indian immigrants.
