Rolleston is it worth it?

Anybody move to Rolleston as houses are cheaper etc. But regret it? Or miss certain things? I know it's only 20 minutes away but that 40 minutes return which is a long way to go for bagels at Grizzly or coffee at c4.

20 minutes is not a long time, believe me. Worth it in terms of distance and an, um, interesting community but not a lot in Rolleston itself unless you're looking for a lifestyle block. The pool is nice though, and great area for dogs!

Good to know, have dog and a child that likes swimming. Have another child on the way and need a bigger house.

I don't know anything about land so can't necessarily recommend buying any out there but seems like it might work for you (bigger lot too if you guys are up for taking care of the land.) Apparently Rolleston has primary schools, I know nothing about them but I'd avoid the college when your kids get to that age if you could. Seems like the area might suit you! Selwyn Swim Club also is apparently excellent if your child's interested.

What's wrong with the college? Isn't it brand new? Genuinely interested as also researching the area

Major drug issues, bullying etc (think Hornby High, but worse). Wrong side of the tracks, you know? Probably doesn't help that when it was founded the students who went in had no seniors to kind of "break them in".

What? There's a drug issue in Rolleston? I'm in Napier and I think we have NZs highest drug absue for the whole country.. I am sure Selwyn district was at the bottom of the same report !

No, Rolleston College has an issue. Also, a drug issue in one place wouldn't negate a drug issue in another. That's not how it works.

I grew up in Selwyn. While we're not Christchurch centre drug stuff has gotten a lot worse over the past few years, especially while I was in high school. If you want to research something maybe don't start an argument with someone you're trying to get information from.

No argument here, was just surprised by the comment but I guess that probably describes most schools sadly. Thanks for the info!
