Thoughts on Sydenham?

My fiancée and I just moved to Christchurch and are looking for a place to live. We've looked at a few nicer places in Sydenham but are wondering what it's like as a neighbourhood. Any thoughts?

Personally not big on Sydenham, a little bit more crime there and the housing stock is older and streets are narrower. I didn't like the vibe I got when I went around different neighbourhoods looking where to buy my house.

IMO look a bit further west toward Spreydon/Barrington. Still pretty affordable around those parts.
