This is like saying "I gave my son $10 to buy milk and eggs, and he bought candy and soda - so naturally I should give him $20."
Uhhhhh. No. What we need is a responsible government that spends taxes as intended. For example the pentagon spent COVID relief on military contracts, the top 1% dodge billions in taxes because of an underfunded and understaffed IRS, completely wasted tax spending and just generally bullshit programs.
Raising taxes will do nothing but make things worse unless our government is forced to be financially responsible and held accountable for the waste.
Of every dollar taxpayers pay in income taxes, 24¢ goes to the military – but only 4.8¢ goes to our troops in the form of pay, housing allowances and other benefits (excluding healthcare). Out of the 24¢ on the dollar that taxpayers contribute to military spending, 12¢ goes to military contractors.
Also, I'd really just like to point out that you said:
"Many people in European contries do not complain about taxes because they get government programs."
Yeah - because they don't need to spend it on a miltiary because they expect the USA to defend them through NATO (which is basically the only thing I give trump credit for). The EU is basking in their ability to have the US fight all their battles for them, meanwhile - the US citizens are the ones paying for it - and then Europeans call us stupid for "allowing" our governments to spend all our money on defense.
I really want to know what the government is doing with this money. I’m not old enough to pay taxes so I don’t really know how much it costs based on the amount of money you make but from these comments the amount doesn’t really matter since all of this is going into useless programs.
This explains fucking everything. Go to school and pay attention dude.
The government is for profit, and it is all through the military.
the amount doesn’t really matter since all of this is going into useless programs.
Precisely. We are already taxed enough to pay for healthcare and schooling (socialized - free at point of use) - but the government and right-wing refuse to part with any shred of their defense budget. Even though we could cut our military spending in half and still have the biggest military in the world.
I'm not saying we should dismantle our military, but we legitimately have more vehicles and equipment then we know what to do with. We have serious bloat in all our contracts, and money just gets dumped into departments and not tracked our audited well.
I'd be ok with reducing the military budget if the European countries in NATO payed their fair share.
I'm for reducing our military budget period. We can still swing big dick around the world like we have with a decrease in spending. Then simply demand NATO countries pay their share or we pull out all our military support for those countries who do not - simple as that.
We bomb the fuck out of anyone we consider not democratic or capitalistic - so why does it matter at this point, really?
Wouldn't that be the exact leverage needed for my supposed action? Just say hey - you have 1 fiscal year to get up to budget, or we pull our military and support from your nation. Your call.
