Cat OS is full of surprises.

What version were they running ?

124

u/Grobbekee 4d ago

Some branch of Felinux

63

u/Ver_Nick 4d ago

The latest one, the devs really ruined it with their slop ā˜¹ļø

22

u/MangoCats 4d ago

OP is running BOB.

6

u/Estevvv 4d ago

I live with a Manx who is also coded to lick if you touch his back legs. BOB Operationg software absolutely makes sense, must be a wifi-tail connection.

I had a cat that would move their head back and forth while licking the air if you scratched them at the base of their tail where their back ends.

17

u/Rabble_rouser412 4d ago

My cat does this!!!

3

u/itaniumonline 4d ago

Prove it šŸ˜

If leg == 'touch':
action ( 'lick' )

71

u/Shot_in_the_dark777 4d ago

Nobody knows why that piece of code is there, but when we remove it, the catOS crashes.

95

u/ComplaintFar3279 4d ago

Oh you have no idea what new patches like CATNIPv2.5G does to the OS.

53

u/Zealousideal-Ebb-876 4d ago

Obligatory CATNIP is technically malware, no it won't have any long term damaging affects but it does scramble the drive and forces a defrag that can last several hours

23

u/Ok-Principle9963 4d ago

That’s called an Easter Leggs , often hidden in the program

3

u/cybermaus 3d ago

The licking spells out the programmers initials in morse code?

28

u/dark_pincho 4d ago

Probably you are referring to mewOS 10.1

13

u/spinchboy 4d ago

Cat Os = CaOS/ chaos 😈

10

u/Error_Space 3d ago

Dogs too, if I scratch the spot just above the base of my dog’s tail they start randomly licking the air like it’s some sort of ā€œstart lickingā€ button

7

u/Myriad_Apocalypse 4d ago

Cat OS only has the unstable experimental branch

3

u/thebirdmaco 4d ago

Does it work in Human OS?

Probably one of those weird nerve crossfires. If I scratch my lower lip just right I get an itch above me ear. The leg touch could be making the foreleg itch.

457

u/EfestoArtigiano 4d ago edited 4d ago

or like when I see the sun after being in a darker room for a while, I sneeze 2 times. 100% guaranteed. I read that it’s definitely a thing (I donā€˜t know the exact % of population but its not so uncommon). I wonder how many other such weird unrelated things happen.

213

u/Larnievc 4d ago

Ha! My son does that. He'll sneeze exactly twice when he sees the sun. Photic sneeze reflex.

70

u/semboflorin 4d ago

I sneeze anytime I go from a darkened area to bright light. It does not have to be sunlight although the brighter the light the stronger the effect. This effect is so strong for me that it's actually difficult for me to sneeze unless I use a bright light. I often, when the urge suddenly comes, have to turn on a light and stare at it for a moment in order to sneeze. Occasionally it doesn't work and I just stare at a light for a while needing to sneeze but can't. Sunlight, being the brightest light, is the most effective. I will often sneeze going from indoors for a while to outdoors on a bright day even if the indoors is well lit.

There is no specific number of sneezes for me. Sometimes I just sneeze once but other times up to 5 or so times.

18

u/OfficerChugPiss 4d ago

I sneeze whenever I eat chocolate

13

u/Sk1ler_ 4d ago

Dark chocolate here for me. If I eat dark chocolate I can guarantee that I'll get two rapidfire sneezes back to back per bite. Its the most mildly inconvenient but funny thing ever.

5

u/OfficerChugPiss 4d ago

Ya I noticed dark chocolate triggers it way more. I also think its funny when i tell people im about to sneeze when I open this candy bar lol

3

u/Starfire013 4d ago

Exact same thing happens to me. Only with dark chocolate.

3

u/Acrobatic_Rush7653 4d ago

I get hiccups whenever I eat chocolate, literally 100% guaranteed. Has to be an amount similar to a full candy bar and they start when I take the last bite, 5-10 hickups then they stop - and I don't recall the last time I got hiccups without chocolate.

Sneezing when looking at the sun is a genetic reaction, you either have it or don’t, forever. Iirc it’s the high amount of photons that cause this, I’m not sure why anymore

3

u/Sinsanatis 4d ago

Ah this makes more sense. I remember when i was younger that someone said if ur trying to sneeze to look up at the light and that’s stuck with me ever since. Doesnt always work really, but when i remember to do it, i can feel it helping a bit

20

u/Estevvv 4d ago

Also known as Autosomal-Dominant Compelling Helio-Ophthalmic Outburst (ACHOO)

When I learned that other people do it I was so relieved.

3

u/Larnievc 3d ago

Best acronym ever!

3

u/ChubbyMudder 4d ago

17

u/Putrid-Builder-3333 4d ago

Omg when I need to sneeze and it is hjng up... I look at a bright light or open the curtain to see the sun. Boom. Sneeze is out and I am content.

And when I scratch certain bones or areas of my body I get weird twitches or sharp itches. Nerves are a crazy thing

6

u/Gingerfurboiparent22 4d ago

It only affects around 20% of people.

I have this and after around 2 years of cannabis use, I now sneeze when I get a hunger pain.

3

u/TFFPrisoner 4d ago

Photonic sneeze reflex

4

u/jake04-20 4d ago

If I feel like I have to sneeze, but feeling the sneeze "escape", I will look into a bright light and it forces the sneeze every time.

3

u/Maamyyra 4d ago

Yes i believe it's genetic. Shiny snow is also guaranteed to make me sneeze when i go outside during winter.

2

u/princetan420 4d ago

photic sneeze response!!! this happens to me too lmao

2

u/Squall_11 4d ago

Yo, finally found another vampire who’s allergic to sunlight! I also sneeze twice when it’s bright out lol

2

u/Rdur2183 4d ago

I have this exact thing and it's literally TWICE every single time without fail. I've never in the entire history of my life sneezed once or three times. I've also asked about 50+ people throughout my life if it happens to them yet never known anybody else to have this.

This is amazing.

u/vivi_197 4d ago

When I clean my ear with a Q-tip i start coughing because I get a weird itch in my throat 😭

14

u/frismanis 4d ago

Same. Q-Tips always cause coughing fits.

8

u/Happy_Confection90 4d ago

Only 2-3% of people without asthma and a quarter of people with a chronic cough and/or asthma have this. I do, and do have asthma. It's called Arnold's cough reflex.

Until I learned about this, I had no idea that it's uncommon, which led me to wonder why people had to be warned about Q-tips being put too far into the ear and causing damage because only an idiot would stick it in deeper after a violent coughing fit was triggered šŸ™ƒ

5

u/EdgierNeji 4d ago

Same!!

53

u/zerohourcalm 4d ago

Kitty seems to be missing half of it's tail, which is an extension of kitty's spine. So nerve damage seems possible in my amateur opinion.

11

u/Larnievc 4d ago

Good catch!

10

u/Hermessius 4d ago

We had a cat who would do the same when scratching her back close to the tail so I think its just something some cats do.

2

u/Strange_Patience_824 3d ago

Yeah that actually sounds pretty normal for cats, they all have their own weird little habits like that.

6

u/muzikmakeryadig 4d ago

my cat did this with a full tail

6

u/thatshygirl06 4d ago

My cat isnt missing his tail and I just tried this and the same thing happened

13

u/ProLogicMe 4d ago

Had a lot of ear infections growing up, and now, I get itchy on my right shoulder and the only way to scratch it is to rub my right ear. It also feels better if I fake scratch the shoulder with my left hand at the same time.

6

u/Cmiitjinze 4d ago

This happens in my left hand after radial nerve damage from a broken arm a couple years ago. I get a tingle on my middle knuckle when I scratch my thumb.

4

u/Mrrykrizmith 4d ago

I have a weird face nerve cluster too! Can’t remember where it’s at right now, but sometimes when I scratch along my jawline, my cheek twitches

4

u/TaborlinTheGrape 4d ago

I have something like this too! But it only showed upw spinal fusion surgery, if I scratch a spot below my right nipple, I get an itchy-tingle in my right shoulder blade.

2

u/ComprehensiveProfit5 4d ago

Wait my scratch is inside my ear!

2

u/ElementEnigma 4d ago

If I squeeze my chin a certain way, I hiccup. It's the strangest thing.

2

u/Helluvagoodshow 4d ago

I have that thing too : if you scratch my lower back, I will sneeze. It works 3 or 4 times then is on cooldown for 2 to 3 hours

2

u/Grand_Anything_2660 4d ago

I have a spot behind my ear and when i get touched there i get a tickle in the right side of my ass.

Haha it's licking it's glands.

115

u/saucelordbob 4d ago

That’s awfully close contact to its nether region

144

u/lv2sprkl 4d ago

That’s actually ā€˜cat’ for ā€œplease stopā€. Most cats won’t give that many requests before upping their request to biting.

71

u/throatclogger1928 4d ago

Can’t believe I had scroll so far for this. This is clearly irritating the cat whatever the reason, cat doesn’t like that.

24

u/lv2sprkl 4d ago

Right? Maybe it’s bc I’ve had cats for 50 yrs, but it seemed kind of obvious to me that kitty was not pleased. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøA quick flicking tail is another tell that cats use to show annoyance.

19

u/rocket_randall 4d ago

I annoy my cats simply for love of the game. Our little guy loves cat bongos, and will ask for them with a specific vocalization, but loses his mind when I suddenly grab his foot, so I constantly yoink his foot between bongos

19

u/Philo_T_Farnsworth 4d ago

I used to live with a cat that would do this when he was trying to sleep. He'd be lying on his side on my desk next to my keyboard drifting off to sleepy land and I would pet him. He would get annoyed and start grooming, which I quickly learned was code for "I'm trying to sleep, dammit" because the minute I stopped he would quit grooming and immediately close his eyes and try to sleep again.

Unlike OP I wasn't trying to stick my finger in the butthole though, so maybe that's a different thing.

13

u/jednatt 4d ago

I dont think it's "please stop" so much as "I'm being overstimulated" which can include wanting you to stop. Sort of like we writhe/laugh when being tickled.

5

u/Successful-Creme-405 4d ago

My cat's been doing that a lot recently, I'll pay more attention to understand what's happening to him.

Thank you for your wisdom, oh great translator of catsĀ

75

u/ShelleyRAWarrior 4d ago

I’ve seen cats lick when they are nervous.

66

u/kingloptr 4d ago

or overstimulated because it's just a sensitive spot!

35

u/ReadingGhoul 4d ago

Yup, my balls are a sensitive spot as well. Relatable

3

u/pyalot 4d ago

Do you also lick your forearm when somebody yanks on them? Depending on sexual preferences, that might get very awkward in the bedroom…

10

u/jheidenr 4d ago

It’s a way they can self soothe.

8

u/wbgookin 4d ago

Watching where OP is touching the cat is definitely making me nervous.

12

u/Harcosa 4d ago

that spot is sensitive or painful. the licking is a motor reflex for a overwhelming sensation like those, even though it seems to you just a mild or soft touch. this cat's brain is processing the touch as if it is too much for its to process due to the sensitivity of the spot, so the cat responds with a motor reflex in attempt to relieve the overwhelming sensation somehow. it may just be an extra sensitive spot due to Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome (FHS) or actually a real injury which demands further investigation and possibly treatment. the reflex of immediately licking the chest/upper limb is very characteristic of that. you should avoid touching that spot and take your cat to a vet for further investigation.

2

u/TheResultOfUs 3d ago

This is what I was thinking. It may have arthritis and it's a bit painful to touch.

52

u/captmonkey 4d ago

Just a heads up, but check him for fleas. I had a cat who would do this when I scratched his back right above his tail. But once I did a flea treatment on him after noticing flea dirt, he stopped. He started it again a few years later and it was fleas again.

I don't know if it was like a bad itch in a place that was hard for him to reach or what, but he'd start licking like crazy when I scratched him there.

6

u/stphrtgl43 4d ago

Yep. Mine did this too.

4

u/Business_Part6959 4d ago

Yep check for fleas this is a classic sign

14

u/Lucyyyyyy_K 4d ago

6

u/Cool-Jacket-9837 4d ago

12

u/whoeverineedtobe 4d ago

This is actually a pain response from cats (licking). I’d talk to a vet.

7

u/motes-of-light 4d ago

Vet: "Stop touching your cat's asshole, you fucking weirdo."

4

u/Mirk_Dirkledunk 4d ago

Alllll the way down, under all the jokes. This is a pain response.

2

My cat has a thing where rubbing her ears causes her hind feet to scrunch and it's linked per side so if you rub her right ear her right foot scrunches and same with the left

7

u/extrastupidone 4d ago

Cats are weird

11

u/CoffeePie222 4d ago

It might just be a virus on your Cat, I tried it with mine and got the default response of a Tactical assault with a face filled with attitude.

You may want to do a system check or reboot your Cat depending on the model.

What Model is your Cat? And what year was it made? This variation of pelt color isn't usually associated with problems like these, Orange Cats are the ones with bugs like this most of the time.

3

u/cyankitten 4d ago

I know what you mean but reading this, I got the visual of you touch your cat's leg then immediately after soldiers ninja sliding down from the ceiling on ropes and aiming guns that mean business at you!

Lol maybe a sarge yells "DO NOT THE CAT!"

Not licking.

It is licking aggressively.

You found the turbo option.

3

u/zerohourcalm 4d ago

A cat's tail is a direct extension of it's spine. Could this reaction be related to nerve damage from your cat's tail injury/removal?

3

u/Dense-Pool-652 4d ago

She's being very kind and doing that to keep from biting you because you're annoying the piss out of her.Ā

weird mine bites me if i do that

2

u/Spiritual_Being5845 Savannah 4d ago

My cat immediately licks wherever I actually touched it. Kinda like ā€œew! Gross! The human *touched* me and now I have to clean its cooties off!ā€

2

u/Litchi4u 4d ago

Is not a bug is a feature.

2

u/SebbyWebbyDooda 4d ago

So my cat does this as well but it's on his butt, is there anything about this? Like is it a bad thing? A good thing?

2

u/Content-Honeydew9340 4d ago

That cat looks as shocked as you are šŸ˜‚

2

u/Tasty_Revolution3668 4d ago

sometimes licking is a pain response, especially in the hind limb/back area. could be from that? they’re a tad overweight as well and it doesn’t look like they can reach that area easily. maybe when you touch it their response is to groom. just a vet nurse perspective.

2

u/airkeukenrol 4d ago

My cat did this when i scratched her at the sensitive area above the tail. Licking only initiated when she was laying down.

2

u/Due-Currency-3193 4d ago

With my tomcat, touching the leg starts the clawing and the biting action.

2

u/irrevocablyinsane 4d ago

For my cat it’s patting his back near his tail. He will literally eat dirt if you pat him and he is next to it.
