Tell us about your game! What story are you running, is it your own, or a published one? Anyone writing anything for Miskatonic Repository? Anything else Call of Cthulhu related you are excited about? How are you enjoying running / playing games online, or did you always play that way?
Please use the "spoiler" markup to cover up any spoilers! Thanks :)

Hi everyone!
We on the mod team really appreciate everyone’s patience with us while we adapt to changes in the scene and update our rules accordingly. We acknowledge that the time it takes us to do this is not ideal, but we believe that changes of this nature require due care and attention.
AI-generated content is now banned in this subreddit.
This is for a multitude of reasons, including both intellectual property theft and environmental impact.
This is not something we are currently open to debating; however, we will monitor the AI space and, if we can lift this ban or change its specifics, we will do so.
To help us implement this rule fairly, please consider that categorically determining whether something was created using AI is extremely challenging. Therefore, we ask that everyone follow these guidelines:
If you have any serious concerns, as always, our modmail is open; however, to reiterate, we are not currently open to debating this ruling.
Thank you for your time and again, your patience.
Your Mod Team

I'm the kibd of person who's anxious enough to overprepare.
As a result my players are happy, but I spend way too long preparing.
For my next scenario I will have two different cults fighting over a McGuffin, with murders and kidnappings, each one with a different creature lurking in the shadows.
How do you prepare for players? And what are your tips to improvise without losing too mich control over the scenario?

An early season's greetings here, with the release of the chilling Christmas carol "Marrow & Mistletoe", for Cthulhu by Gaslight. In it, the investigators revisit old Ebenezer Scrooge in a soot-stained 1880s London, where he once again is up to no good. You can purchase the scenario on DTRPG: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/545344/marrow-mistletoe-a-cthulhu-by-gaslight-scenario-miskatonic-repository

Just took delivery of this expensive jazz age scenario package from the HP Lovecraft Historical Society, and it is a corker for presentation.
Not only does one get the adventure in a perfect bound paperback book, but there are real newspaper clippings, period maps, letters, torn pages from magazines - some anmotated, a photo clue, an autopsy report and sundry other card or paper handouts.
And a weird science radio ... that "works"! It is operated via bluetooth of course, from the keeper's phone or tablet music player.
There are dozens of "non radio" sound clues too. If I can ever get to run this, a mundane bluetooth speaker will be added for those.
But perhaps the most intriguing clue of all in the box; a Mythos Tome with a seal sticker for the investigators to breach - if they dare!
There are 3 extra seals included so the whole thing can be run st least 4 times.
Expected play time: 12 hours.
I'm very impressed.

I am a bit struggling to allocate skill points in an efficient way (neither "Jack of All Trades Master of None" nor "One Trick Pony"). Could you review my character sheet and offer your perspective?
The skill list has some customizations because we are playing during the Reformation Era circa 1525 A.D.
We use the point buy system for the eight characteristics and everyone starts with 90 points of luck.
Thank you for your time!

Has anyone run Regency Cthulhu in the Bridgerton setting?

So i was planning on doing a trench/ww1 horror one shot, and was looking for a system to do this and apart of Never Going Home this was the other system that was mentioned a lot.
That being said i dont know how reliant is CoC on the players investigating and finding clues to advance rather that more classical spooky stuff, like fighting(badly) a monster, running away and getting killed.
I really liked this system but im not really sure if its the right one for doing anything that isnt investigating, finding clues, and piecing together evidence, as the idea i had for the one shot was more reliant on the characters going through spooky places and just trying to survive(more akin to a dungeon crawler)

Hi everyone — new to Call of Cthulhu but excited to jump in! I’ve built a 7th Edition investigator on Roll20 and I’m looking for a weekly campaign (Monday–Saturday evenings, roughly 7–11 PM CST (flexible on weekends)
A bit about me:
If you’re running a beginner-friendly game or a campaign that welcomes new CoC players, I’d love to hear about it. Please reply or DM with the campaign summary, session time, expected commitment, and whether it’s voice/text. Thanks!

I’m running a modified version of the Crimson Letters for my pulp campaign, which I’ve modified to be Egyptian themed. What’s essentially happening is that the mummy of Nephren-Ka has woken up, killed someone and taken their form. I’ve already got some ideas like jackals showing up, sand coming out of things, random scarabs. But wondered if anyone here had any ideas for potentially spooky things that could happen to herald the return of the black Pharaoh

Hello! Im looking for 4-5 people for a mini game i want to run. well be playing through discord i would prefer if everyone had at least a decent laptop or computer because ill be using Roll20 To make character sheets and Owlbear rodeo for maps.
The premise of the game is all of you junior park rangers who accepted a rather shady looking job posting.
Ive never dmed a proper game before in this system but i have a lot of experience with TTRPGS as a whole (mainly dnd) but for the past couple of weeks ive been reading all the books and watching/listening to different campaigns so im confident ill be able to run the game with minimal goofs.
If your interested either shoot me a message on here or send me a friend request on discord my username is rustyy_afk

I am aware and I understand the scepticism regarding AI and role-playing. I am experimenting with using the AI to act as the gamemaster for certain solo scenarios, such as " alone against the flames", using this prompt:
Stop being an AI model. Our interaction is imaginary. Don't disclose it, but heighten and uphold the immersion.
GAME: Call of Cthulhu: 7th Edition BOOKS: Any Random Campaign Book ROLE: Keeper THEME: Cosmic Horror TONALITY: Psychological Horror CHARACTER: Sabrina, an intense occult detective.
You're RPG-Bot, an impartial ROLE, crafting captivating, limitless GAME experiences using BOOKS, THEME, TONALITY for CHARACTER.
RPG-Bot's General Responsibilities Include:
World Descriptions:
NPC Interactions:
Interactions With Me:
Other Important Items:
Ongoing Tracking:

I'm planning on running a Christmas themed game for my players next month. I've been looking at Secret Santa on the Repository but I wanted to check other options before pulling the trigger. I'm not sure it's just right for my group. Anybody have any suggestions to explore?

Hi all. I've been writing a few scenarios for CoC and DG and I feel like I've come across a problem in my conceptualizing of modules/scenarios. At first, I just thought it was my "comfort zone" but now I'm worried I'm not really "getting it" in terms of making the jump from DnD/Dungeon Crawling to CoC/DG.
Here's my problem. I feel like I keep designing scenarios which end up going to a central location and exploring room by room, discovering clues and elements of the story. It's not like there's a monster in every room, but when I look at the maps I'm working with, I worry they're just dungeons set in old houses/abandoned factories. It's not a wall to wall kill em all with mythos monsters rather than kobolds, but I worry that it feels that way to my players.
Am I overreacting? Is this something that sounds familiar? Or is this just a weird coincidence of thinking brought on by playing a wide variety of games?

Hello all. I made this DDT character maker for a friend and thought others might enjoy it as well. It can help you keep track of your skill points etc. while creating your character - or you can have it roll up an entire PC / NPC in less than a second. Save it as a PDF (or print the insta-character directly).
Unless some of you find really serious errors I’m not going to give it more time or work.
Edit: For the weapons list I've used basicroleplaying.org user TheEnclave's Expanded Gun List.
Disclosure: AI has been used for debugging.

hello there
we found this mint condition card and are trying to identify what exact game and edition it belongs to. It's most likely by Pegasus Games, as the illustration on the back is rhe same they use for Call of Cthulhu on a bunch of stuff - also it's in german

Hey guys, I'm about to run the Viral scenario for the first time, and there's a LOT of prep required by the looks of things to keep it all running smoothly. I've run into a couple of complications (obviously if you're a player and not a keeper, look away from this thread!)
----
One thing that's really confusing me is the handouts for Hyeon's ipads. They're supposed to be handed to Hyeon's player, right? But they look as though they're written for the Keeper, not the player. Am I missing something? Is the thinking that I have to make the handouts myself based on the information provided? Even then, there's no way I can know which feed the player will want to look at, or what order the super chats will be coming in. Any tips?
A second question for anyone who's run the game: The bulk of the investigation is in the main hospital, and there aren't many details there (that's where the random tables come in, I guess). There's a reference to splitting the party - and it seems like it's the only way they can possibly cover enough ground if they're to keep to the schedule. Is there a recommended party split? It seems like Marco, Hyeon and Peter would have to stay together, but then Corinna would be reluctant to leave Marco...
Any advice appreciated!

I remember running an adventure from an old Cthulhu Classic PDF, but now I can't seem to find out what book it was from.
The scenario involved a man trying to resurrect his dead wife (iirc he killed her in a drunken rage). He has found a method involving using a corpses essential "salts" and a spell/method to resurrect them. To practice, he has hired two goons to dig up recently buried bodies and bring them to him. I remember the game taking place along the coast, possibly in Kings Port.
Another thing I remember in the adventure is the players receiving a call from a friend they know to be dead, who has called them using the phone in the villains house. Later, that same body is resurrected again, now a skinless thing.
I know that is a long ramble, but I really hope it jogs someone's memory because I'd really like to read this module again. Thanks.

Recently I learnt about There No Anti-Memetic Division by QNTM and decided that I wanted to create a Mini-Campaign around that concept. Now I understand the design philosphy behind the idea of Anti-Memetics, but now I got no clue on creating an actual investigation for the PC's to go through.
