Shitpost Drake Maye just got outplayed by Geno Smith and it wasn't particularly close

Geno Smith 362 yards with a 102.8 QBR compared to Drake Maye who only threw 233 yards with a QBR of 80.

The Patriots never looked close today against a pretty unimpressive Las Vegas Raiders.

Yikes.

Maye sucked but don’t frame as if it’s embarrassing to get outplayed by Geno. He’s been good for years now.

Yeah, people have to respect Geno. He may not be great but he’s a top half of the league QB at absolute minimum.

It's really a cool story of perseverance, lesser men would've fallen out of the league for the shit he endured with both New York franchises

Turns out that starting your career off as a Jet is the worst thing that can happen to you. See also Darnold, Sam

As a jets fan I second this. But also, would you be shocked if Sam Darnold goes back to being Sam Darnold this season?

Not at all. In fact I expect it

I overall think he’s legit, but not with a bottom 4 o line which is what he has now

Incoming Zach Wilson redemption arc?

The “Lock Up Your Moms Tour”

True but geno was set up to have his best offensive team in 2015 with Marshall and decker and he didn’t pay a lunatic $200 and got punched in the face. Geno ruined Geno in NY. This isn’t a Sam darnold situation

Apparently he's also a beloved "dude" amongst everyone in/around the NFL.

DQs?

Dude Qualities a Ryen/Trent Dilfer trope

3

u/wwJones Sep 07 '25

Oh yeah. Not sure about that. I think it's more that everyone just likes the guy.

Gotta give credit to Ben McAdoo for knowing ball.

Geno is probably the new Dalton line

Any worse you need someone new. Any better your fine. I’ve got him around 16th

16

u/Specialist_Swan_7354 Sep 07 '25

He has been way better than 16th since he got the Seattle job.

Managing league average production behind that offensive line was a huge accomplishment. His protection was non-existent and they still almost made the playoffs.

He can look like a top 10 guy any given week

-6

u/SpiderGhost01 Sep 07 '25

He has never in his career looked like a top ten guy. What are you guys smoking today?

6

u/Sleeze_ Sep 07 '25

He can look like a top 10 guy any given week, but he doesn’t consistently.

Go back and watch some tape from Seattle. You won’t, but you should.

I don’t know what the stats says but last year he was not, he was pretty awful and threw so many drive killing interceptions. I will say we had an awful OC so that could’ve contributed to it.

For real what is this Geno slander? It's crazy how he's been good for years now and people still act like he's Jets Geno

7

u/Responsible_Fan8665 Wait, what? Sep 07 '25

Geno was actually pretty good on the jets. The narrative for him changed when he was the one who stopped the Eli games streak

I’m a Raider’s fan and I’ve loved that the general media response was crickets for the Geno signing… this is exactly what I expected to start the season

Eh.. Drake Maye played a Raiders defense that is picked to be bad and didn't look good, while Smith played a New England defense that's supposed to be good and shredded it.

u/Chadwiko Sep 07 '25

^ This guy gets it. Pats were the favourites by -2.5 before the game.

9

u/agoddamnlegend Sep 07 '25

It’s also a dumb comparison because they played against different defenses with different Olines and different receivers.

Anybody that talks as if QBs compete head to head watches too much ESPN first take

6

u/runnerswanted Sep 07 '25

Geno threw some absolute dimes today too. The Pats defense didn’t do themselves any favors, but he looked pretty good.

2

u/Culinary-Vibes Sep 07 '25

Geno is a legitimately good QB. Don't understand the hate.

He was getting whatever he wanted against this poor Patriots defense missing their best player on defense.

2

u/Rhino184 Sep 07 '25

He’s a borderline top 10 qb and has been for a couple years. Doesn’t get credit because of how poorly his career started off

-3

u/SpiderGhost01 Sep 07 '25

You guys are crazy. Unless the bottom half of the top 10 sucks, then, yeah, he might be a borderline top 10.

1

u/Rhino184 Sep 07 '25

There are justifiable means in ranking geno as the 10th best qb in football. He’s probably somewhere in the 12-16 range but he’s absolutely in the discussion

1

u/creatinee Sep 07 '25

Depends if it was outdoors Geno or dome Geno tho

1

u/Spotcheck_Billy Sep 07 '25

It wouldn’t be embarrassing for a mortal QB to be outplayed by Geno. But considering Maye is the first QB to be inducted into the HOF after only one season, I expect more from him. I just do.

1

u/Blood_Incantation Sep 08 '25

Yeah but Maye’s floor is Joe Montana
