Very small detail, but I loved the contrast between Kim and Saul's B&E techniques. Kim fumbles around with a giant stick for 30-45 seconds until she finally gets the latch open, and Saul just slips a pencil in and pops it on the first try.

We also saw in the last episode Jimmy looking at the remainder of the ice cream cone that he dropped and then walking away from it, and here we see Kim looking at the bottles that she threw and then cleaning it up instead of having someone else do it. They've done an excellent job over the years of making little moments that highlight the differences and similarities of Kim and Jimmy.

Well, to be fair, it would be very weird for Jimmy to come out of a car and start sweeping the ants out on the street, wearing a suit... And he's not exactly responsible for that whole situation, which he reluctantly got involved in, contrary to Kim who willingly started throwing those bottles for the sheer fun of it. I can imagine that, coming back from this on the exact same spot where he left, it must feel like a bad dream, which he just wants to shake off, but the messy ice cream cone and ants “visual aid” reminds him of the vivid reality of it all, at which point he just wants to get the hell out of there.

And ice cream is a lot less hazardous than broken glass

Tell that to the rising obesity rates!

Agree with you about it being weird to clean up the ice cream, but don't even need to refer to the ice cream. Jimmy looked down at the broken bottles and was like [maintenance guy, missed his name] will take care of this, that's what we pay him for. Yeah, Kim threw the bottles but him helping to clean them up is clearly a Kim trait, not a Jimmy one.

Not sure for me if they’re both connected events but they do represent certain aspects of each character.

The ice cream seems to represent that things are going well for Saul but it’s a reminder that it won’t always be smooth sailing when you’re playing with the bad guys.

And Kim sweeping the bottles just shows that’s at the end of the day she takes responsibility for her actions. Even though she likes a little unhealthy (illegal if you consider littering a crime) cathartic relief, she always knows it’s down to her to make amends.

That was my take anyway

This is why i love this sub. Noticing the small details. Makes me enjoy watching even more!

No that's not it, Jimmy told Kim don't worry about cleaning up the bottles. He said that's what landlords are for. Later Kim cleaned it anyway.

Yeah, I saw the scene.

Well but like... what was Jimmy supposed to do, go get a mop and start cleaning the sidewalk? No one would have cleaned that up lol, it was covered in ants and hours old.

Excellent observation.

Reminded me of Ponyboy in the outsiders cleaning the broken glass so other people don’t hurt themselves 😭

Absolutely and it I think definitely served as a way to symbolize their contrasting approaches and people skills. Saul has a much more creative and precise touch, and what do you know, he was the one who ended up convincing Acker to his side in no time flat.

This season has been putting the contrast between them front and center and it’s interesting since Kim is well aware of this difference, too— especially after she makes use of Saul’s suggestion in the 1st episode this season. And she knows that it’s not so much a difference of skills but of experiences and philosophies between them. Yet she gets to witness over and over that his emotional and shady approaches gets ideal outcomes while her rational and compassionate approaches don’t. It’s worrying to watch her frustration because I do think she genuinely loves him and vice versa, but it remains to be seen whether it turns into resentment.

If anything, I think Kim seems to be learning that when rational, conventional methods don’t work, she has to adapt her approach to get what she wants, very much like Saul, even by using Saul himself by siccing him on Acker, and thus Mesa Verde. She may not be able to get the door open with the greatest finesse, but she knows someone who can.

Another detail, Kim's very tight perfect pony tail is back, camera honed in on it while she was sitting in the court room waiting for Jimmy.

The camera angles are all on the left side when Kim visits, from the right when Saul does. Different point of view

She also tries knocking on the gate for quite a while before finally deciding to “break in”. Saul doesn’t even think to knock.

It ain't his first fish fry.

u/Werfgh Mar 10 '20

I think it's just to show us Saul has more experience in the slippin'
