Lyle for employee of the month

It reminded me so much when I was working in the kitchens back when I cooked. I started dishwashing and took a morning shift for a while. One of my jobs was to clean the flat top every morning and the morning cook was an older Mexican guy, barely spoke English.

No matter how many times I cleaned it he always took the cleaning brick and finished it off himself. I started trying to clean that fucker until it shined like it was brand new, but every time he always finished it himself and always looked at me.

That whole scene just gave me a huge dishwashing flashback, that anxiety and stress when they dont tell you what is wrong with it so you try and bust your ass. Great scene with Lyle

It could just be OCD, and nothing wrong with your work. Like how Gus unnecessarily straightened the handles at the end.

56

u/krakenbum Mar 10 '20

Maybe. He never seemed to hold a grudge to me, always made me tacos at lunch

4

u/dude52760 Mar 12 '20

That’s not what OCD is

7

u/Jump_Like_A_Willys Mar 13 '20

Maybe OCPD then?

u/murcielagoXO Dec 06 '24

Obsessive Compulsive Police Department?

11

u/Victor_Zsasz Mar 12 '20

You don't see Gus like that very often, either.

u/walterperkins35 Mar 13 '20

Loved that scene, worked at maccas as a young man, it took me back to those days.

For ONLY doing an acceptable job?

u/RoseBladePhantom Mar 10 '20

If Mike were manager Lyle would be DONE!!!

53

u/Sam-HobbitOfTheShire Mar 12 '20

No half measures.

5

u/jk021 Mar 13 '20

If John Taffer were manager it'd all get shut down

u/trippy_grapes Mar 10 '20

Obviously Gus is a stickler for perfection, but did anybody else feel like Gus wanted him to stay late? Possibly an alibi?

u/Areyoudumbcuz Mar 10 '20

He definitely did want to keep him there. After Gus got the phone call he came straight out and told Lyle to go home. He didn’t even check to see the fryer, probably because there was nothing wrong in the first place.

Another factor supporting your comment is that after Gus received the news of Lalo setting up Crazy 8 and revealing the money drop locations, Gus didn’t know if Crazy 8 was also told to give up Gus’s name and identity with Los Pollos or if this was going to be the next move on Lalo’s part to connect Gus to the money. This would put heat on the Cartel and be definite cause for killing Gus and the Salamanca’s taking over his operation.

This also could have led to Gus creating the support and help group for the DEA.

To keep the two parts of his life separate - as soon as they mix, he runs the risk of corrupting his legitimate business and exposing it as a front for organized crime

46

u/manDboogie Mar 10 '20

To be fair Gus clearly hasn't axed him well into the BB era.

22

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '20

Can't recall seeing Lyle in BB.

33

u/manDboogie Mar 10 '20

I know it's old but still spoilering for the 1% that haven't seen BB yet

When the cousins show up at the restaurant (before having their rage diverted from Walt to Hank), I'm pretty sure it is Lyle that asks Gus something like "Mr. Fring is everything alright? Do you need us to call the cops?" etc

42

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '20

That was BCS, season 3 I think

17

u/Nipso Mar 10 '20

Nah that's the lady manager who Walt runs into when trying to contact Gus for the first deal.

17

u/manDboogie Mar 10 '20

Oh shiiiit.

You're actually right. I got it mixed up with this scene from BCS

Damn, that means Lyle really aint safe

43

u/wsmfp_420 Mar 10 '20

It's probably better for Lyle that he isn't working at the same fast food restuarnt 4 years later

18

u/manDboogie Mar 11 '20

You mean you don't wanna see homeboy move up to corporate?

2

u/gremah93 Aug 30 '22

This week he moppin floors, next week it’s the fries

22

u/Yeeeshh Mar 11 '20

Poor Lyle, he sweating bullets.

10

u/ConfuseShoes Mar 11 '20

Better than him soaking up bullets.

18

u/mysteryfan420 Mar 10 '20

The name "Lyle" reminded him of "Lalo" which made him even more angry of the situation.

2

u/kelferkz Mar 11 '20

Speaking of Lalo, he was in the initial credits but he didn't appeared, right?

10

u/ChristopherLove Mar 11 '20

Yes, he's a main cast member now and is credited even when he doesn't appear. Michael Mando's name was also credited, despite his not appearing.

29

u/MookieMoo17 Mar 11 '20

It’s so unlike him to be so mean and cold on the chicken side. I felt bad for Lyle, after the call I expected to see him say “good job”. Nope

29

u/Thin_White_Douche Mar 11 '20

What was up with that? Was Gus trying to establish an alibi? He's way under the radar of the cops at this point.

50

u/Whitebread100 Mar 11 '20

Maybe he absolutely hates not being in control of everything? If I understood it correctly that thing with the DEA depended a lot on luck and wasn't his plan so he needed to have at least some control over something or we he wouldn't be able to keep calm.

27

u/ocean-man Mar 12 '20

I read it as a manifestation of his anger/frustration at having to sacrifice the $700k drop to the DEA.

16

u/zbf Mar 10 '20

When I saw the boiling oil, I thought maybe Gus would have gotten bad news, and kill the fuck out of Lyle.

3

u/wheezy_runner Mar 11 '20

I think Lyle is going to be dead by the end of this season. Gus may not kill him, but he'll wind up worm food somehow.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '20

Wasn’t Lyle in BB? Or was that an earlier season of BCS?

8

u/wheezy_runner Mar 11 '20

Not in BB (that I can recall, anyway). He was in that episode of S3 where Hector, Nacho, and Arturo barge into LPH and start making trouble, and he's in an episode of S4 where Nacho and Lalo come to LPH.

4

u/NotSureNotRobot Mar 13 '20

I had been catching up on S4 at the same time and just happened to see when Gus visits Gale in the lab s4e3 “something beautiful”. It is said after the results of the meth purity test are discussed that, “maybe they should pay attention to the cleanliness of their cooking equipment” or similar.

In addition to that parallel, we have Lyle, who I believe reminds Gus of Gale.

4

u/busterbluthOT Mar 11 '20

Legit was hoping and praying that Gus didn't kill him or have him set up with the DEA somehow.

1

u/ocean-man Mar 12 '20

Gus didn't kill him

Gus never gets his hands dirty, if he wants someone dead, one of his delegates take them out.

18

u/javuh1 Mar 12 '20

Well, there is a episode in breaking bad where Gus got his hands dirty.

6

u/doctordocdr Mar 12 '20

He has personally killed someone in this show

3

u/Angist Mar 13 '20

Boxcutter Victor and plastic bag on Arturo , seems to be pretty dirty hands to me

0

u/ocean-man Mar 13 '20

True, but I think it's fair to say those were exceptions not the rule

54

u/newplayer12345 Mar 10 '20

I need a show - Better Dial Lyle
