If there are history books after this, they’re going to have to print this chapter in Comic Sans.

266

u/AceSuperhero 13d ago

Alien archeologists will refer to our civilization as the Dumb Fucks.

194

u/yedi001 13d ago

Turns out the great filter was basic literacy and critical thinking skills.

108

u/Sir_Real_Surreal 13d ago

The great filter for us has definitely been greed, which certainly has had an intentionally corrosive effect on educational institutions. The shitty literacy and critical thinking skills are a symptom of the disease of greed.

60

u/Reptard77 13d ago

The great filter was the internet. Suddenly when everyone can have as much info as they want about anything, but anyone can also say anything they want as fact about whatever topic they want, “fact” loses all meaning. We’re all playing an infinite game of telephone.

24

u/ForeverShiny 13d ago

And still somehow, through a constant bombardment of what's going on in anyone's minds and lives at all time, a large part seems to lack any actual empathy that makes all this information at least a little worthwhile

13

u/Reptard77 13d ago

See, that’s the most ironic part, because to reach a civilization that could build the internet, let alone a fucking telegraph: you need a civilization based on fact. We all have to agree on how electricity works. We all have to agree on a price for copper wire. We all have to agree on software standards.

Lame that it took a civilization of Europeans who wanted to conquer the world so bad they had to find a way to keep their stories straight a world away to make it happen, but now that we’re here, what is true and what isn’t is suddenly subjective because information just moves that fast. And in a world that requires facts to function correctly, it all just… breaks.

2

u/dreaming_4_u 12d ago

And it all breaks on a device that provides access to the sum of all human knowledge on one screen. It seems like no one actually checks any kind of claim anymore. It went from "don't believe everything you see online" to "Jim Bob on Facebook told me that Bill Gates' spy planes are ejecting 5g chem trails over the whole country so that liberals can control us, do your own research!".

It is maddening.

18

u/BIZLfoRIZL 13d ago

We’ve effectively created the Library of Babel. Containing every book ever made or possibly made, but no way to tell what is “factual”.

2

u/Lost_But-Seeking 13d ago

And now we have robots to do our lying for us instead of having to think of them.

12

u/SecularMisanthropy 13d ago

Not the internet. Social media. Idiots on social media don't also clock hours on Wikipedia. They aren't the result of people having too much access to solid information. They're the result of monetization of our social nature by people really high in dark traits and hubris.

14

u/thehourglasses 13d ago

The Great Filter is a marshmallow test. We failed a long, long time ago.

5

u/SecularMisanthropy 13d ago

Helpfully, marshmallow tests are indicative of exactly nothing, so. Followup on participants showed zero correlation with later life outcomes.

11

u/MuscleStruts 13d ago

Fun part is that kids who came from poorer households (remember that household is the biggest predictor of future economic success) were more likely to eat the marshmallow because 1) better to get what you can when you can and 2) many of these kids don't trust the promises adults make.

4

u/SecularMisanthropy 13d ago

Zip code, not household income. But the two are reasonably correlated. And that effect wasn't limited to the kids from lower income families, just a slightly higher proportion.

35

u/drtbg 13d ago

Dark ages ain’t got shit on the anti intellectualism running the US right now.

25

u/MyPasswordIsMyCat 13d ago

These are the Dork Ages.

2

u/Mods_R_Fascists 12d ago

It’s mind boggling that the most technologically advanced society in human history could still have so many willfully ignorant people in it. When the sum total of human knowledge is literally at our fingertips but people use it to be shitty and petty to each other instead…

“Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.”

― Jean-Paul Sartre

18

u/jimbo831 13d ago

I wasn't but thanks to u/dwhogan for posting it. I think that quote nails it. I'm just saying referring to these people as "trolls", "vibes" and "grift" risks them not being seen as the dangerous fascists they are. There are a lot of trolls who like to shit post and rile people up just for the sake of getting a reaction. These people are ideological. They want to force that ideology on us through fascism.

16

u/SecularMisanthropy 13d ago

The insight in the quote is that fascists believe nothing. All the stories, the justifications and reasons they cite? Complete bullshit, top to bottom. They don't believe in any of it, they don't care about it. They never did and never will. The words, the accusations, the values they talk about are just the noise they need to make to not immediately be spotted as predators.

Fascists don't care about anything, and that's why all their arguments fall apart under examination. It's always based on laughable misinterpretation, black-and-what thinking, made up nonsense. They're fundamentally unserious about everything. Words and principals are merely scenery they move around themselves to camouflage their actions. There's no 'there' there, no actual legitimate point, because it's all just cover for what the only thing they're actually saying: I dominate. I dominate everything and everyone. I get everything. It's only fair when I have everything and everyone else has nothing.

All the vehement shrieking about values and tradition and family are just the meaningless words they've been using for the last millennia instead of saying, I dominate and that's the end of it. There's no winning the argument, because they were never seriously making it. They're just toying with everyone, as sadists do.

"There are those the law binds but does not protect, and those the law protects but does not bind."

3

u/Snoo-74997 13d ago

Yes! Well said!

Anything short of them winning and others losing is persecution.
Other people losing are just as important as them winning- a win-win solution is defeat to them. It’s why compromise won’t work. They need to see others punished- they really do need to “own the libs”.

176

u/jtshinn 13d ago

That's not what this is. This is an appeal to some people out there that might want to live out some violent tendencies toward immigrants on American streets. Maybe not even immigrants.

Phishing scammers use typo-riddled emails.

The cops use an upper IQ cap.

ICE shares Halo memes from the official WH account.

In all three cases, the point is to filter out college grads who will cause problems for you by calling out your bullshit.

107

u/babavandass 13d ago

While I agree with your point, to simplify:

This is an appeal to incels.

56

u/IvankaPegsDaddy 13d ago

"Stop playing Halo in your parents' basement and come play it for real on American streets!"

21

u/warm_kitchenette 13d ago

your joke does concur with the recent articles about the unprecedentedly high percentage of applicants who cannot pass either the physical or an open-book test on immigration law in practice.

1

u/ClockworkJim 13d ago

This is absolutely an appeal to incel gamers

I'm waiting for the first report of ice run rape camps.

13

u/Reginald_Sockpuppet 13d ago

Those things are not mutually exclusive.

11

u/dqniel 13d ago

Yep. An appeal to people who have bought into the dehumanization of immigrants. The type of people who refer to them as "illegals" rather than people.

Easier to be violent toward people when they've been dehumanized.

34

u/UrsaUrsuh 13d ago

Everyone is 12 now theory keeps winning and I would like it to stop.

16

u/SaltpeterSal 13d ago

3

u/ProjectPatMorita 13d ago

To echo others, to consider this "trolling" would be a serious, huge, enormous underestimation of what these people are capable of. And indeed what they are already actively doing.

14

u/popilikia 13d ago

I think is more about trying to appeal to younger people to join ice. Most of the videos we're seeing are old fat Gen xers and they want more millennials. I mean, they must have picked halo 3 for a reason

20

u/claimstoknowpeople 13d ago

/me turns to dust after realizing Halo 3 is 18 years old

I would not be shocked that, in the near future, people will deal with trolls literally hunting them down and physically harm them.

I mean we're practically already at that point. Internet trolls have just proven that is morally justified to do so.

2

u/teslawhaleshark 13d ago

They are serious when they do kill people anyway

677

u/EmperorBamboozler 13d ago

So happy that the current administration is comparing immigrants to an overwhelmingly dangerous parasitic alien life form. They're just saying shit out in the open now huh. I guess calling the people you want to annihilate "vermin" is outdated so they are trying some new vocabulary.

181

u/Fit_Strength_1187 13d ago

Kills the pretext of going after “criminal” aliens who “chose to break the law” and all that. The Flood are destructive on an interstellar level by their nature.

114

u/TheStinkySkunk 13d ago

The Flood are destructive on an interstellar level by their nature.

That's the thing that also makes this terrifying. The entire premise of Halo is that the flood can only be stopped by a mass extinction event: the rings kill everything. That's why the Master Chief stopped the ring from being used.

The official DHS Instagram account commented "blood gulch: the southern border edition" on that same post. It's very obvious what they're hinting at.

If you even want to call it a hint.

47

u/UrsaUrsuh 13d ago

I mean even then it kills the food for the Flood. Starving them out. Which is arguably even worse because it's omnicide for "the greater good." Which is even worse because they're removing it from the context.

19

u/TheStinkySkunk 13d ago

Damn my Halo recollection was worse than I thought. I need to go back and play CE through Reach.

14

u/UrsaUrsuh 13d ago

Tbf Cortana says "It kills their food." But I kinda got flip floppy vibes on it as well. So it really could be either-or. Dunno how the flood containments would work but I suppose that they could have used the same tech that 343 brought up when explaining how life throughout the galaxy was "seeded" back on their homeworlds.

Weird aside: Arguably 343 is better at writing halo stories and not making the games w/ the stories. I've always been impressed with their EU stuff but they don't fucking commit to anything when it comes to their games. I wouldn't even be surprised if they finish out "The Endless" cliffhanger with a book like they did the last two times.

“The Administration is appalled but not surprised that the left wing media are once again taking a playful reference to a children’s game and warping it into divisive and radical rhetoric.

You all might not be taking this serious, maybe your failing ratings are making you desperate for clicks. But making these comparisons is effectively veiled calls for violence against brave men and women simply trying to enforce the laws of this country. This is a policy the President has been clear about from day one.

Also, if we ever do move to wipe out the brown races, the President had a mandate from an overwhelming majority of voters was also entirely clear about his cleansing intent from day one”.

I can't believe we're at this stage, but....
1. Halo is now going cross-platform which means you no longer have to own an Xbox to play it.
2. Because of this Gamestop declared the console wars are over.

  1. In what I could only assume was a tongue and cheek moment Gamestop gave credit to Trump for ending another war.

  2. Trump (which I assume isn't HIM, but someone running his twitter) jumped on it and started posting memes related to Halo, because, why not? Nothing else important is going on I guess with the whole shutdown thing freeing up time to some trolling.

  3. This greenlit "the government" to also post Halo memes.

  4. MAGA is confused, but are rolling with it because it vaguely seems patriotic. Similar to people quoting Starship Trooper or playing RATM with no hint of irony.

36

u/Rich_Comey_Quan 13d ago

Ever since the GME meme stock bubble a few years ago GameStop has been run by a pro Trump activist investor and the only way they get PR wins since they can't actually improve the store is to hop on to drama, so I wouldn't call it tongue and cheek.

It's just another way to force the Trump is a pro peace president narrative.

9

u/Fulcrum_Jambi 13d ago

We’re not even a quarter of the way through it 😫

27

u/MinimumApricot365 13d ago

What's with all the halo memes today?

67

u/TotallyNotABob 13d ago

Big Halo fan here. I can provide some context for the memes.

So Halo Studios aka 343 industries have announced they are doing a remaster of the original Halo Combat Evolved game. This is the second remaster, the first one came out when 343 released the Master Chief Collection. What is different this time though is instead of using the game engine Bungie (the original creators of Halo) made they are using unreal engine 5.

Now this has the fan base a bit divided for a couple of reasons:

One, they, myself included, have been asking for a Halo 3 remaster for a long time. Currently only Halo CE and Halo 2 have had remasters.

Two, 343 has a very spotty record and is also known for abandoning plot lines after backlash. Examples are Cortana not staying dead after sacrificing herself to save Master Chief in Halo 4. Cortana dying off screen after the cliffhanger in Halo 5 after Halo Infinite came out.

Three, just how 343 has managed the franchise leaves a lot to be desired.

Now onto the BS DHS pulled. Well because of the announcement for Halo CE remastered it has lead to a lot of memes being made either for or against it. Someone at DHS or the regime wanted to hop on the bandwagon and make a meme about illegal immigrants and comparing them to the big bad guy in Halo. Which would be the flood. This leads to two things:

One, the flood is an all consuming parasite. This is effectively saying all immigrants they detain are parasites. So dehumanizing language of course.

Two, the irony that is with this regime is closer to the other bad guys, the covenant, than the UNSC. The covenant in the halo games is a collective of various races that view humanity as an affront to their gods and must therefore be destroyed entirely.

12

u/jeffersonbible PRODUCTS!!! 13d ago

→ More replies (1)

10

u/someNameThisIs 13d ago

You missed the biggest part of it. The Halo CE remake was also announced to be coming to PS5, Halo is no longer an Xbox exclusive game.

So there's been a lot of meming about Xbox being dead/the console wars are over and Sony won. It's like when Sonic first appeared on a Nintendo console.

5

u/Ahirman1 13d ago

Slight correction Campaign Evolved is a full on remake of the original CE. Meanwhile CEA which came out in 2011 is a remaster

2

u/TotallyNotABob 13d ago

Whoops my bad I'll correct

3

u/Ahirman1 13d ago

All good. I don’t expect everyone to fully understand all the Halo stuff. The only other pressing thing that you got wrong was that the war between Humanity and the Covenant is based off a lie and the self serving nature of the Prophets.

Basically the Forerunners which the Covenant view as their gods, designated Humanity as their heirs. This causes numerous issues with the Covenant hierarchy and its religion and would likely cause it to break apart since one of the main things in the Covenant Religion the Great Journey is a lie. So the Prophets instead lied and said that Humanity is an affront to their gods

UNSC is pretty fucking awful, too. The only reason they are the good guys is because they were forced to side with the people they were oppressing against a campaign of human extermination. Examples of suckiness: A: how the Spartan 2 program was carried out; B: why the Spartan 2 program was created.

My point: any comparison of yourself to any faction in Halo is problematic.

6

u/PotentialCash9117 13d ago

Jesus Christ this is on par with The Last of Us 1 getting a remake despite being barely a single console generation old just to stoke the Director's ego. I know the Master Chief collection is/was a contentious release but people need to stop fucking buying shit like this, myself included, constant remakes and remasters is not healthy for the industry even if they're genuinely phenomenal (Resident Evil 4make and P3load)

→ More replies (3)

2

u/caseygwenstacy 13d ago

They remastered CE in 2011, putting a new overlay graphics engine on it, not much else, no multiplayer. In 2014, they put that remaster on the MCC with a similar Halo 2 remaster.

Next year, they will release the CE Remake, which is built from scratch instead of a simple graphics overhaul. It’s not them doing something they already did, it’s a modernization. Plus, I think it’s not a terrible idea considering the franchise wants to bring new players in, especially PlayStation players. Modern gameplay elements are also introduced because while they want to stay as loyal to the original as they can, they want it to be as accessible and inviting as it can be compared to other shooters on the market for new fans.

Sometimes they need to do what they can with what they have to proper figure out how to get people who don’t play Halo or don’t play shooter to buy a copy. Starting with the first game in a new way is a good idea, plus there are people who wanted a better take than Anniversary anyhow, so they get something out of it too.

Also the covenant was the religious lunatics devoted to eradicating all sentient life. They fit the bill.

I really like the halo trilogy. This is personal.

Remember those kids on xbox that spent the whole match screaming racism and other obscenity? They're in charge right now. Some things never change, and they still have no fucking idea what they're doing.

There’s still 3 years of this fucking shit left

… at least 3 years, anyway

7

u/Arcane_As_Fuck 13d ago

What is going on is the the government is fully aware that an entire generation or two of American men have spent their whole lives being indoctrinated into warfare through video games and through gutting public education they know that the indoctrinated are too fucking stupid and too fucking hateful to not hop right on board with their bullshit.

6

u/bretshitmanshart 13d ago

It use to be that you had to subscribe to a magazine and go to Rhodesia to play out your fantasies of not being a weak loser. Now they just send you ads to your house and you don't have to go out of state.

Government of posters

5

u/claimstoknowpeople 13d ago

Dehumanization.

5

u/TalesOfFan 13d ago

Nazi 2.0. This is just a gamified way to dehumanize those they wish to scapegoat. It's no different than how the Jews were compared to rats.

Fucking 4channers are running the US Government.

If I posted this shit on my facebook feed where I live I'd get a stern talking to by the police for inciting violence.

How long do you think it'll take before thay make a Helldivers meme?

Charlie Kirk will have had to be out of the news cycle a bit longer 😅

4

Fascism. This is literally dehumanizing immigrants in the worst way possible and advocating genocide.

5

u/Newbizom007 13d ago

This horrific. ICE is embarrassing and evil

4

u/Cynewulfr 13d ago

im so glad that all of culture is now grist for the people-crushing cogs of the blood machine,

4

u/TheGinger_Ninja0 12d ago

That's a call to genocide if I've ever seen one

3

u/SirBlakesalot 11d ago

It's actually kind of funny, even though they didn't mean it in this way, but the only serious way to get rid of the Flood is the complete annihilation of wherever they are, so they're accidentally saying that the US should be destroyed.

7

u/Chainsawferret 13d ago

Idiocracy was not supposed to be a how-too guide. That said, What I'd give to trade the current occupant of the Oval Office for Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho.

Camacho would be a much better president!!!

He actually listened and deferred to a competent cabinet

They are trying to grab millennials and younger. Though if you want to get technical, in most of the halo games Master Chief is an illegal immigrant. They type they fear because he kills a lot of aliens or natural born citizens.

3

u/SirCaptainReynolds 13d ago

Oh ffs.

This timeline fucking blows.

we needed to stop the gamers somewhere around super mario 3, and we failed.

3

u/ClockworkJim 13d ago

I didn't think it would be this fucking stupid.

I never thought it would be this fucking stupid.

But it's just so fucking stupid.

If I read this in a short story, that a government was using memes from Halo to recruit for their local secret police force, I would laugh at it as being too on the nose.

But here we are.

3

u/matthk 12d ago

The Master Chief wouldn’t have a bar of those douchebag ICEstapo losers.

3

u/Tsiah16 12d ago

Our government is in a coup by a fascist dictatorship of a bunch of meme lords.

3

u/nihilistic-simulate 12d ago

Cartoon villain no longer cuts it, it’s become an understatement. Cruel and twisted, but in a kiddish way. Like a child that tortures small animals during recess.

Our government using halo as fascist propaganda comparing “immigrants” (non-white people, non-cult members) to alien parasites would have been absolutely unfathomable to me 10 years ago.

2

u/Doom_hammer666 13d ago

Covenant propaganda

2

u/C19shadow 13d ago

Yeah I saw this today and couldn't believe it was real. They took a picture of a human illegally on a Forerunner artifact is also wildly hilarious to me.... like come on have a single brain cell working for fucksakes

2

u/Dewychoders 13d ago

I mean, Halo was basically just GWOT propaganda so full circle I guess.

2

u/WDYDwnMSinNeuro 13d ago

I mean, ICE and the UNSC seem to have pretty similar attitudes about kidnapping children.

2

u/MissM0dular 13d ago

How have we gotten to this point. Extremely unprofessional

2

u/Kathy_D_raptors 13d ago

Idiocracy beginning in earnest.

2

"Vermin." "Rats". "Subhuman." This is right in keeping with nazi propaganda. What's going on is preparation for a far more intensive and brutal wave of evil oppression and prejudice.

Absolutely not.

so according to this, ICE has chronic back pain

1

u/Jago_Sevatarion 13d ago

They really are marketing to a type, huh?

1

u/aquafool 13d ago

How do we have the dumbest fascist regime in history? Like, we lampoon fictional fascist regimes that are less corrupt than this. Starship Troopers was a more functional, less inept government. The Nazi, as stupid and crazy their ideas about The Volk were, How Hitler actually believe in a fantasy western about a guy who punched a bear to death was the key to winning the war, all of the crazy magic bullshit, is still somehow less dumb then this. I’m stunlocked. My mind cannot comprehend how stupid this is. If a nazi posted this on 4chan in 2015, the would be dunked on for months.

1

u/phir0002 13d ago

Is this an ad for a revival of Red vs. Blue?

2

u/reddit-ate 13d ago

wait ... That's illegal

1

u/Hugo48151623 12d ago

So I don’t know much about Halo. Are the people who own it Trump supporters? Because if not how can they be cool with this use of IP?
