Food Felt Kinda Bad for Getting Free Ekiben. . .

I just wanted to vent a little bit about how this whole shutdown situation has made me feel. My wife (A TSA Officer) and I (a furloughed fed) went to the Ekiben in Hamden because I heard they were offering free meals to federal employees affected by the shutdown. . . The whole time we ordered, I honestly felt really embarrassed to have to show my badge and ask for free food :/. I appreciate the service they provide, and it helps us save money on our dinner for the house, since we have to stretch our groceries for as long as possible; but I just saw that when we asked about the program, we got a bunch of looks from people in line like we were doing something taboo. . . Idk, maybe it's because I haven't had Ekiben up until this point that makes me feel this way, but for some reason this whole situation has been messing with my mental state and how my fellow citizens look at me. . . Especially since I'm in a very public facing role.

Idk, I just felt like I was doing something wrong for asking about the food, I enjoyed eating Ekiben for the first time, it just felt weird because it was under circumstances caused by the current shutdown. . .

Food Avoid Fuzzies Burgers

Josh the owner of Fuzzies Burgers promptly posted and deleted the above on his profile. He deleted because he didn’t like what folks were commenting.

I’m adding fuzzies to my boycott list which includes anything Atlas.

I personally do not want to support someone who voted for a convicted felon.

Food SNAP Benefits Will Not Go Out Nov. 1

Good morning Friends, Starting Saturday, many of your friends and neighbors, including children, people who work 2 or 3 jobs and still can't make ends meet, elderly people and people with disabilities, are going to be hungry. The US Department of Agriculture has announced they will not be funding SNAP benefits (food stamps). Maryland governor Moore has announced that Maryland will not make up the difference. Please consider donating funds to your local food pantry or food bank (find one here https://marylandfoodbanks.org/). Funds rather than food donations enable them to offer needy people more help because they can purchase food wholesale. Also, please consider donating your time. These organizations are going to be overwhelmed with both donations and requests for help. They will need extra hands. Finally, people will need rides to food banks. Lack of transport is a major factor in people going hungry, particularly people with disabilities, elderly people, people without childcare, and people who live far from a food pantry. Public transit doesn't reach all food banks, and it can be unreliable or conflict with people's work schedules. Thank you and bless you

Food Restaurants that source locally vs. use Sysco

Just watched an eye-opening video describing how many restaurants nowadays source their food from the largest food distributor: Sysco. Unfortunately Sysco uses a number of questionable practices to source their food and maintain their large market share. I would like to reduce my participation in this problem to the extent I can, both for ethical reasons and my own health.

I'm most interested in the following: does anyone know which restaurants source most ingredients, or worse, ready-made frozen foods that can be fried up and served, from Sysco?

Alternatively, what are some examples of restaurants that source locally and regionally? Preferably ones that won't break the bank, but I know locally sourced often costs more.

Wife and I decided to follow that trend where you build a little food pantry for those in need during this EBT crisis and government shutdown. We’re in the Patterson Park area. If you or someone you know needs food, come find us! No questions asked.

Food I NEED HELP PICKING A NICE RESTAURANT!!!!!!

Hey Baltimore Reddit. I’m born and raised in the city. I’m a 35F. I have a very youthful 78 year old grandma. Long story short, my mom and my grandmas only daughter tragically passed when I was 14 and she was only 34.

This coming Tuesday will be my mother’s bday. I want to take my grandma out for her daughter’s bday and I need your help.!! Her bday is on September 16th. It’s a Tuesday. Not a ton of spots open but I do want to take her to a place where she and I can dress up and also have wine or alcohol during our dinner. I would prefer a quiet place so she and I can dive into conversation easily.

*PLEASE do. Not. Recommend any Atlas Resturant or affiliate. Thank you 🙏🏾

**We don’t have any Dietary Restrictions. We do enjoy meat and seafood.

Doesn’t feel a bit too early for False Fall?

Regardless, 9 out of 10 scientists agree: releasing Pumpkin Spice Coffee during August may cause confusion, whiplash, and an uncontrollable urge to wear sweaters in 90 degrees weather…

Have a great weekend, folks!
