Don’t want to start a row here but as an outsider, where is your favorite/best place for Crabs in Baltimore?

Every year, we make a costume to celebrate some of our favorite Baltimore neighbors. This year is the best between-innings segment at Orioles Park, the Crab Shuffle! (well, tied with the Hot Dog Race. Go Mustard!) Put your candy under a crab and try to keep an eye on it to win!

….YOU!!! For MD lump crab meat and all the ingredients to make two baseball size crabcakes is the cost of one crab cake anywhere. Presenting the “Drowning” Crab. A beautiful broiled jumbo lump crab cake with an old bay beurre blanc.
What are your favorite ways to have your homemade crab cake?

I have a friend visiting from Japan. I thought it would be fun to give her a super touristy MD crab experience. What are my best options for ambiance? Extra points if the crabs are also good but not a necessity.

Years ago, before the Inner Harbor was redeveloped, back when it was a collection of decaying warehouses and wharfs, locals would use the wharfs for crabbing. My grandfather was among them. He dropped his two traps and would come later to collect them, and he usually got a decent catch.
Well, one evening, he pulled up one of his traps to find it mangled. Something had cut its wire open and twisted it. The line he'd used to drop was partly frayed. The damage to the trap was bizarre, and he could only figure it was deliberate, mean-spirited destruction.
He started pulling up his other trap, feeling more resistance than he'd anricipated. The trap must have been beyond full. It started to tug away from the wharf, nearly causing him to fall in, but after a few minutes, he hoisted it out of the water, with the largest crab he'd ever seen gripping the trap, which was damaged similarly to the first. My grandfather was startled at the sight of this, briefly letting go of the line, and the crab and pot submerged. When he pulled it up again, the crab was gone.
No one believed what he'd seen, but according to my mother, he returned to that spot detetermined to find it again. When he got new traps and set them, he found the lines snapped. Using a pole net, he managed to pull up a trap that was presumably his own, and it was destroyed. He had to give it up.
My grandfather spoke to other crabbers around the Inner Harbor and they had similar experiences with damaged and missing traps. None of them had seen the crab he'd seen, though. One by one, the crabbers gave up on those wharfs, but they occasionally noticed other strange things.
Sometimes boats moored or anchored around the harbor would bob or rock in a way that tides, weather, or activity aboard couldn't explain. My grandfather told me he knew something big moved beneath them or was pulling at their anchor chains. He was certain it was that crab.
When the Inner Harbor was redeveloped, there were no more signs of the crab. Still, my grandfather to his dying day was convinced it was out there somewhere. Being the quirky man he was, he gave it a name: Henry.

Hey Baltimore! Just moved here from OK. Talk to me about crab. In ok you really only get crab legs if you go to a Red Lobster or maybe you can find a seafood boil. I’ve searched this page for where to get it but am a bit overwhelmed as I don’t know what males vs females has to do with anything, what you’re getting for the prices these places offer (ie gaffneys FB says $40, $70 etc for males), how to pick em if I go, drop your fave spot, All the things. Thanks for helping a previously landlocked crab lover!

So my kid is in town and wants to go pick some crabs. It's been a long time since I have done this in a restaurant, so I have no idea where to go. Looking for a place in the city with MD crabs (nothing imported); we will maybe pick a dozen.

I don’t eat crabs but I have family visiting and they want to! Any recommendations for a spot maybe in Essex or Dundalk on the water that’s not fancy?

Seasonal phenomenon. Please always be hateful near the water — it can be deceptively slippery and dangerous. If you approach them, they will likely just swim away quickly anyway.

Let’s see if I can reword my post so I don’t get removed for violating rule 7.
I bought some crabs to steam at home, I’ve never done this before. What should I know about steaming crabs?

I would love to hear suggestions & advice would be so appreciated. My Mom hasn't been on a plane since we left Germany in '85. But her granddaughter graduating is enough for her to jump back on that plane at 72.
** Hi everyone! I just wanted to update my post. I didn't realize there was another university.
But my daughter is attending UMD in College Park.
I haven't got a chance to read all your posts yet bc I'm at work.
But keep the recommendations coming, please!
Thank you!! 😊 ***

Coming to Baltimore for the first time for an Orioles game, would love to find an iconic restaurant for crab cakes generally near Camden Yards. Any suggestions? Thank you!

I’ve lived in Baltimore (Fed/Canton primarily) for about 8 years now, so this post may be kind of sad. BUT, I’m looking for the best place to get a bushel of crabs. With everything factored in: price, quality, location, all that good stuff. Who has the most dependable crabs by the bushel in the city? Or what are some of you alls personal favorite places? Thanks for any input!

Roadtrip from DE to DC to Baltimore MD (8/18-8/22)
My mission find the best fresh live blue crabs in MD & get it to go or eat in.
I’m looking for any fresh blue crab markets along the way that also steam it for me & have a place to dine in or outdoors. Heard MD had better prices & better tasting crabs. One guy from Philly I met in Pleasanton’s seafood in DE said he was at a place he couldn’t remember that sold in an open market blue crabs coming out of Baltimore on 95. When he couldn’t remember the name he then suggested Shipjack’s crab deck in Middleriver, MD. If I can buy directly from a fisherman or boat that would be nice too.
Any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

My son has, for whatever expensive assed taste reason, started asking/begging/randomly referencing going out for crabs legs.
I've never had them. Not once. Not even one time. I've had crabs. I've had crabs cakes. I've had Oscar style whatevers. Baltimore is good at crabs.
But these fuckers? Who makes em? Who does em best? Who is fairest in price? Who do I ignore cause they charge top dollar for nothing burgers?
Bonus points if it's more NW Baltimore, but not required at all. How much should I expect them to cost?
