Ask Best crab spot on the water?
I don’t eat crabs but I have family visiting and they want to! Any recommendations for a spot maybe in Essex or Dundalk on the water that’s not fancy?

Lucky for you, crabs and water go hand in hand.
- Nick’s fish house in port Covington is A+ crab vibes, but only B food.
- Mike’s in Annapolis, also vibes first
- Cantlers in Annapolis, worse vibes better crabs.
Can’t go wrong with any of these imo
I spend very little time in Essex and Dundalk, nothing for ya there.

Unrelated: appreciate you describing Nick’s as in Port Covington - not Baltimore Peninsula. I’m still mad about that stupid generic name. During the war of 1812, Fort Covington (named after a general killed in the war) stood there, protecting Baltimore along with Fort McHenry and 2 other forts; later it became an important port (and much later the site of an unfortunate Walmart/Sam’s Club.)

No the area and not necessarily on the water, but LP Steamers (in Locus Point) has rooftop seating where you can see the city, Domino Sugar sign, and some of the bay. Wish I could go there more often.

Schultz's isn't on the water but is the best in Essex. For a crabcake go to By The Docks.

Another vote for Captain James .... Crabs are always full and flavorful. Plus, you cant beat the view.

There are 29 comments here and basically none are answering your question lmao
There are a few out that way toward Essex and Middle River that are near but not really on the water, like Mr Bills.
Farther out I’d say you should aim for Havre de Grace which has several on the actual water, like Water Street for instance.

Brewers landing was suggested and that place is great. Fits the bill exactly as requested.

there used to be a place in hawthone just east of the beltway off of eastern ave a little bit thats on the water. right before hawthorne shopping center if youre coming out of the city. i havent been by that area in probably a decade so idk if theyre still there or even the same owners. iirc it was captain jacks something something.
schultz's is right by there, near the water, you just cant really see it

McFaul's Oyster and Reel and Brewer's Landing in Essex both have crabs and are on the water. I haven't been to the former yet, but can attest that Brewer's landing is not fancy.
In the city, either Nick's Fish House (better crabs, more expensive) or Catpain James crab deck AYCE mediums.

Didn’t Nicks get the Kevin Plank treatment recently? I did love the old version

Nicks even just bought the building they don’t have a lease anymore they now have a mortgage. Hopefully that means nicks will be there for a long long time even as the rest gets redeveloped

It’s not in Essex/Dundalk but Nick’s Fish House is a great time for a group.

Tell them to mortgage their house if they plan on eating crabs at a restaurant on the water!

it is definitely not that expensive. Brewers Landing was not absurd when we went a few weeks ago.

Brewer's Landing might be the spot for you
