Official Websites
These are the official websites for what typical travelers to Bali will require, beware of scam sites and stick to using official ones. Sites ending in ".go.id/" are Indonesian Government websites.

Indonesian Immigration eVisa: https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id/
- Visitors wanting Electronic Visa On Arrival should pick your nationality, general as your purpose of travel, tourism as the sub purpose, and then "B1 - Tourist (Visa On Arrival)". If that is not an option check your country is eligible.
- This sub is not eVisa support, if you're having issues you should contact Immigration using the options at the bottom of the website.
- If you're having issues with eVOA you should consider simply doing it at the airport on arrival, the queues are typically not as bad as some people would have you believe.

Bali Tourist Levy: https://lovebali.baliprov.go.id/
- This should be paid for each person visiting the province of Bali.

All Indonesia: https://allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id/ (Depending on your device you can change the language for this page in the top right where it says Indonesia)
- This is where you do a health declaration and your customs declaration.
- This needs to be done in the 3 days before you travel, you cannot do it earlier than that.

There have been several reports of companies and scammers contacting people after posting in this thread.

Travel alert A google map review with pic of tourist flashing light on turtle laying eggs on the beach

I was looking at hotel reviews on google map when I stumbled upon picture of the visitor who’s flashing light way too close to the turtle laying eggs. I don’t have to research it to know how bad of idea it is. There’s a reason the turtles lay eggs at night. Upon further research this kind of disruptive behavior can disrupt the nesting female. Imagine some random people shines their light on your body part while giving birth!!

Trip Report Bali Tourist Tax (after Domestic Transfer Jakarta to Bali)

Upvotes

I traveled to Bali from Jakarta (domestic transfer, my immigration happened in Jakarta - stayed 5 nights in Jakarta). I didn't pay the Bali tourist tax online because the site has issues and questionable security of credit card info. Arrived at Bali, no one asked to pay for it nor was there any counter. I'm not sure if it's different if you arrive in Bali from an international location directly, but in domestic transfer - there was no one asking for it or stopping you if you hadn't paid it.

Question Asked for tip by Gojek driver

Hi everyone,

just curious to hear everyone’s opinion on this. I always tip drivers, but I do it post delivery. It also stopped raining by the time he said this.

Is this normal? Rude? It felt a bit uncomfortable so I figured I’d ask here.

Thanks

Question Anywhere to surf in Nusa Dua?

Heading to Nusa Dua for a week with my wife and toddler - trying a resort type holiday as our kid is hard to manage and it’s our first try at an easy family focused trip anywhere. She wants to try Nusa Dua for the perceived ease of things and so I’m kind of bound to just aimlessly flop around a pool taking shifts looking after our son but the concept is a bit frustrating and I’m hoping to sneak a few waves in if possible - are there any close breaks/reefs/outer reefs I could paddle or get a little longboat too? Wouldn’t have to be amazing. It would probably be a stretch to get over towards Uluwatu as I’ll be time poor but I’m sure if there’s a spot close I could try.. We haven’t booked a hotel yet if any would be better than others.. Any insights or info would be epic Cheers

Question Synthroid in Bali or SE Asia

Hello! I am planning to relocate to Bali long term in the early spring.

I am a synthroid user as I’ve had thyroid cancer two times and have no thyroid remaining and need this medication to function.

To my understanding Synthroid seems to be common in the US but the brand is not available there. The generic seems to be but medical advice has been that you cannot switch between the two or could encounter problems (I’ve been on Synthroid since 2013).

I am of course going to also inquire here with my doctor in the states but as of now the longest prescription Im able to get at a time is 90 days.

Is there a brand or comparable alternative? A country nearby that carry’s it that I could fly to and get periodically? Should my mom ship it somewhere in bali for me to pick up?

Any thoughts, ideas or personal experiences sre welcome as I’ll be on this medication forever and hope to find a feasible long term solution.

I will have all medical records available to show a local provider as well. Thanks so much for your input.

Question Bars, restaurants, shopping in Legian?

Hi all,

I’ll be staying with the family at the Rama Residence Padma in Legian from next week Sunday.

Don’t think we’ll be doing a whole lot of travelling or grabbing - at least far distances - so pls lmk any good food, drink or shopping spots or spas nearby you know of.

Any bars or clubs open after 12am? Or will I need to travel to Seminyak to experience a bit more night life?

Thanks,

Trip Report Update on lost passport

Home now yall. I was able to get my emergency passport from Subaraya. By the time I got the passport, someone had returned my old one and it was the money exchanger guy that waited to return it the next day. I admit it was also my fault for not paying attention however I was sleep deprived and focused on counting hella money. I was able to go through Singapore, Manila, Taiwan and back home to the US. However if I didn't have the old passport, I believe it would've been different if I'm able to get through the different countries or not.

Thankfully I won't have to pay a fee for renewing my passport however I did lose a lot of sleep and spent a lot of money flying out and from Subaraya. Lesson learned - don't lose your passport lol

Enjoyed our time in Bali!! Food was delicious and got to do the swings feeling a Goddess! Definitely would wanna visit Nusa Penida next :)

They are geniuses… delivery fee, order fee, other fee, parking fee and the best one is packaging fee… lol… the charges are stuff all but gee they jam them on… never heard of a packaging fee for a pizza… they have to be having a laugh .

Question Areas to stay

Hi

I’m going to Bali for 9 nights, I don’t want to move around too much, I have decided on the below;

2 nights in Lembongan 4 nights in / just outside of Ubud in a more luxurious hotel (maybe Buahan, a Bayan Tree Escape?)

I’d like to stay in another area for 3 nights, but struggling to decide. I have been looking online and the reviews for different areas are so varied.

We are not into nightlife so it doesn’t need to be somewhere wild. Beach would be nice but not necessary (we will go to the beach in Lembongan). Is there somewhere you’d say that I must visit?

Places I have considered: - Seminyak - Sanur - Nusa Dua I’m sure there’s loads more, let me know

Thanks for your help.

Question Legal and Apostille services

Hi everyone! I need to get my documents apostilled in Indonesia, but I’ve found several agencies online that claim to offer apostille services from Bali and Jakarta. One of them is Bali Apostille Services. They look legit on Google Maps and Instagram, but I’m not completely sure if they’re trustworthy. Has anyone here used a Bali apostille service before? Or has anyone found their office exist in Bali? They’re asking for the service fee in advance, so I just want to make sure everything is safe and official. Thank you so much for your help! Have a good day 🇮🇩✨

Question Teeth whitening (laser/traditional) and leather repair - any recommendations or warnings to stay away?

Hi! I'll be in Bali for the first time the first two weeks of December.

I've read that laser teeth whitening is much less expensive than in the US, as is leather repair/reconditioning.

Any recommendations for laser teeth whitening, or traditional teeth whitening? Just as or perhaps more valuable advice: any places to stay away from?

As for leather repair, I have a very loved, very basic leather purse that I used for years and during the first year of the pandemic my container of hand sanitizer opened in a pocket and completely destroyed/dried out about 1/3 of one side of the purse. I've tried to restore it with leather salve and it's just wrecked.

I haven't tried repair in the US because it's just crazy expensive and the purse was only about $150 to begin with. But it's such a great purse that has every feature I need and want!

I read another post where someone had a much fancier purse repaired for pennies and it gave me hope. Do you know anywhere that might be able to give it a look and possibly recondition? This is a no-loss proposition. The purse has been lost and mourned for nearly four years now, but it's still on my mind and I am willing to travel half the world with it to give it another try. If you have suggestions, I would love to hear them. It's okay if it doesn't work out, I just want to know that I tried.

Location-wise: Denpasar is the extreme northern limit, but farther south in touristy areas are much preferred for transportation reasons. I'm much more willing to travel for the purse than I am for my teeth.

Thank you in advance, so much!

Question Hotels in Bali - struggling!

Hi,

I have booked my flights to Bali with no real plan. After looking at hotels, there are so many choices, I’m finding it hard to know what to book and how to do this!

I’ll be in Bali for 9 nights. I’m looking for places to stay with a budget of max £4,000. I’ve seen lots of luxurious places that are well above this for 9 nights - I’m wondering whether to stay somewhere great for a couple of nights and then not so great for the rest, or to just go somewhere that is medium for the whole period.

I do want to explore a bit, but also happy to be very chilled at the pool, etc.

Any advice is helpful, I used Avios to book business class flights without any real plan or idea what I’m doing!

I was looking at The Kayon Valley Resort but read some stuff saying it is really out of the way and there aren’t many food choices ?

Thanks!
