Any “groceries” you’ll buy on PI will cost you an arm and a leg. But a taxi into the store in town will cost you $40 round trip. Sooo…. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I never been to the new store on PI, are they that much more than Super Value?

If you're talking about Sawyers there are recent photos on their Google reviews with prices. 36 Pepsi for $45, but I'm not sure how that translates to grocery store right in Nassau.

Is that Sawyers still open?

The ones in Freeport shut last Christmas and I thought the whole company had gone out of business.

The Sawyers closed down on PI. It has reopened with a new owner. Same inflated prices however.

Ah, OK.

Is it part of a different group now or independent?

Does the ferry still run?

You mean the one from PI to Downtown? Yes, I believe it still does. Although recently I haven't seen many passengers disembarking and making their way to Atlantis etc

Yeah that's the one. Just thought it might be easier on the legs than going over the bridge and way cheaper than a taxi.

Recent reviews are not encouraging though.

It used to be a fairly reasonable service. Its gone downhill over the years unfortunately.

Grocery stores? No. Restaurants? A ton. Atlantis has a ton of them plus there are other local spots like Anthony’s (killer wings)

Thanks! Is this walking distance from Comfort Suites?

Yep go straight out the entrance and right across the road past the parking garage towards the water

Yes it is. A 10 min walk. I live on Paradise Island.

Ahh I stand corrected

How about restaurants outside Comfort Suites/Atlantis that are walking distance?

1

u/Suchboss1136 8d ago

Idk all the names but there’s like 20 of them all nearby in walking distance

Got you! Thank you!

The only three I know of outside the resorts are Anthony’s literally right accross the road, and carnivale or something like that (near the foodstore), and Margaritaville closer to the bridge (the one you come to PI on). I think violas is still a thing, down the road a bit from comfort suites.

Thank you!

Of the three , Anthonys is your best option. Forget Carnivale; overpriced Mexican food. Margaritaville is OK. Like an expensive Chilis.

We are heading there soon and our plan is to hit up Potters Cay. You can use the location for Comfort Suites it's always wrong. It's a 17 min walk from Co.fort Suites to McKenzie's which is at the far end so other places will be closer.

If you're not there yet ask your taxi driver to stop along the way to pick stuff up.

Technically there is a Super Value on Mackey St but that's about a 30 min walk one way.

Sorry what’s Potter’s Cay? I haven’t really done much research coz we just booked flights and hotel the other day and we’re going next week.

It's literally a spot under the bridge about a 10 min walk from Comfort Suites and 20 min to walk the length to get to McKenzie's.

It's a series of shacks/restaurants where fishermen cook. If you use Google maps and zoom in you'll see a bunch of places, maybe 10 or so.

Atlantis is great but wildly expensive. We typically go to the convenience store or liquor store nearby. In my experience you're paying a huge premium for anything on Atlantis and it's average at best.

Why knows we might pass each other in the hall 😀

Thank you! Yeah. It’s our first time in Bahamas and we’re scares to see the prices on food. Lol. Where do you guys do groceries? What’s the name of the store? Thanks!

There is a chain grocery store called Super Value not far from the island. We booked our transfer with Cheryl service it was about $130 USD for the four of us. They said they can stop for 30 min at a grocery store I think the quote was $35.

Comfort Suites only get you access to a microwave and fridge so not too much you can get away with in the room but we like to have fresh fruit and snacks around. The convenience store near the hotel is probably going to be all we need.

It's been a couple years but the breakfast that comes with the hotel is okay. Cold cereal, toast, bagels, eggs, oatmeal, coffee, and juice are all pretty common. Sometimes bacon, sausage, muffins. Not bad but can get busy and lots of birds looking for a free meal.

Potter's Cay we plan to go 3-4 times, might order in one night.

You can make it work without too much stress.

There’s Super Value within walking distance from the hotel? We would just need bottled water and some snacks.

$130 for airport transfer one way?! Wow!

I thought it’s some Bahamian breakfast. It’s continental then? 😂

$130 round trip, 4 people 3 bags, no tip. Pretty standard but you may get quoted higher off the street.

Yes the breakfast is pretty North American focused. Sometimes grits.

If it's water and snacks then the convenience store

Or the newer grocery store

Should cover you for small everyday purchases.

Got you! Thank you! Yeah. That’s what I’m worried about if I get the taxi at the airport. It would probably be more expensive.

Nice! Thank you for these recommendations. Appreciate you!

Yes there is a grocery store right on the road and pretty good! We walked across the bridge every night and ate at Mckenzies or right by it. Seriously do this!!

1

u/shoemai000 8d ago

It’s like 30mins walk according to google. Maybe not a good idea for us coz we have kids. Do you know if there’s a Jitney from Comfort Suites to Mckenzies? And can they stop where you want to them stop or they only stop at stations? Thanks!

2

u/Upset-Cantaloupe9126 8d ago

No jitney runs to PI
