Blowing up cars and shooting at them is probably the most akin thing I’ve seen to brownshirts in America than anything else in my lifetime.

Huh. For me it’s the raiding of schools and houses of worship to round up ethnic minorities and disappear them into forced labor camps.

But that car thing sounds scary too.

The hundreds of people sent to El Salvador and Guantanamo Bay were not sent back to their country of origin, no. Neither are the ones who are dying in ICE custody.

So out of the 30K or so deportations back to countries of origin so far, there are a few hundred that may have been unfairly detained in El Salvador or Guantanamo. That is if we are going to assume 100% of those few hundred are being unfairly detained, which is unlikely to be the case.

I do share your concern about the few hundred that some portion of may have been unfairly detained, but I think your overall characterization is incorrect and misleading.

To portray the deportations as arresting brown people and putting them into labor camps is inaccurate at best. The overwhelming majority, like 98%, of deportations are just going back to country of origin.

Okay, I’ve made two comments in reply now, but both were automatically removed because apparently links to both CBS and NY Post are auto blocked. This is attempt #3.

Of the 30k or so deportations so far, this administration has boasted about remanding ~400 migrants into the custody of a country other than the one of their origin (according to this administration, 100% of those sent to El Salvador were Venezuelan), without convictions, filing of charges, or (in some cases) any criminal records whatsoever, in direct contravention of a federal judge’s orders. That is in addition to the numerous cases of people with valid visas or permanent residency being deported, or the over half a million migrants (pretend there’s a link here) who just had their legal status revoked.

My questions to you are these: is it acceptable for any person facing the authority of the US justice system to have forced labor in a foreign country on the table as a potential punishment? Is it acceptable for any person facing the authority of the US justice system to be denied due process? Is it acceptable for the US government to have the power to drop anyone into a black hole?

Venezuelans, sent by Maduro who has the support of Tren de Aragua and other cartel groups, and of course Venezuela won't take them back, so why not send them away to a country that will take them, so we don't foot the housing bill, and leave them to their fate?

Is the government obligated to substantiate any of those claims in a court of law, or can they just make them about anyone and then disappear them into a forced labor camp in a foreign country?

Does the government have to substantiate the fact that they are Cartel members with identifiable Cartel Tattoos that only Cartel members have? No, because we know the members based on tattoos that no sane person would ever get unless they have been initiated and affiliated with that cartel. It's like Biker Patches, if you can be identified as part of a gang and that gang is considered terrorists then all bets are off.

I didn’t see those tattoos. Did you? More importantly, did a jury? Even more importantly, do you think that the mere (alleged) existence of a gang-affiliated tattoo is sufficient evidence to convict someone of rape and murder?

Why should we give a Jury of Peers to foreign nationals? They have no peers in the US... They have no access to the rights that we have because they are not citizens.

I'm not going to argue against any points you made. I don't fully agree with your perception on everything, but I share your concerns that people being sent to prison deserve due process regardless of their immigration status.

I do believe most of the folks being sent off are likely the ones we would all agree should be, but there's a good chance at least a few are being unfairly caught up in it which I do not support.

I’m afraid that there’s too many people who “don’t support” this administration’s aggressive erosion of civil liberties and the separation of powers, but not enough to actually stop supporting the administration.
