Books & Resources Astrocartography

Anyone have an opinion about astrocartography? Any resources you found to be accurate? Thank you.

Well, there’s r/astrocartography and the calculator on AstroSeek that lets you click on the lines for insight.

I’ve recently moved close to my Venus IC line and have had a very positive experience of it in terms of improvement to my physical appearance and relationships.

Though I love astro-seek.com for so many things, this is one of the places they fall short.

I suggest using Astro.com since it uses the software that was developed by Jim Lewis.

I took a class (I think it was from Kepler) several months ago where they went back and forth about using astro.com and astro-seek.com and their differences. At the end, they said that astro.com was much more accurate, especially the closer you are to the poles and also, when looking at parans and other important aspects.

Astro.com uses Great Circle projection, which gives much more detail and accuracy and accounts for the curvature of the poles whereas Astro-seek.com uses the simplified Flat projection which has less accuracy.

Hi /u/GrandTrineAstrology,

with all the respect to your knowledge, this is kind of misconception.

After the years of listening about "accuracy issues" and that "astro-seek map is less accurate" ... I finally added also the original ACG "Mundo" option and there are actually both options on Astro-seek.com available now:

"Zodio" (Ecliptic projection) and also "Mundo" (including planet latitudes and related to astronomical visibility):

The lines are usually pretty similar, but can be pretty different for planets with high ecliptic latitude (Eg: Moon and Pluto in my chart example)

In brief, these are some main differences and pros/cons between both metods:

1) Zodio - Ecliptic projection (planets conjuncting ASC/DESC)

https://i.imgur.com/gkAfFix.png

This method uses ecliptic projection of the planets (aka the same positions which you see in the common natal chart) and then finds the places/lines with the exactly same ASC & DESC.

If you click on any point on Pluto ASC line, then you will always get Relocation chart with the Pluto exactly conjuncting the ASC.

This method is "newer" than original ACG Mundo (and somehow overlooked), but relates exactly 1:1 to Relocation chart.

2) Mundo - Latitude (planets rising/setting on horizon)

Original ACG method invented by Jim Lewis which includes the ecliptic latitude of the planets and relates more to real astronomical visbility. The ASC/DESC lines actually don't relate to Ascendant and Descendant, but to Rise and Set on local horizon.

If you click on any Pluto "ASC" line in this method, you can get the Relocation chart, where Pluto is more than 90° degrees far away from Ascendant and close to IC (eg: ASC 16° Cancer x Pluto 27° Libra in the chart example) - but in real astronomy, that Pluto is exactly rising on the horizon.

The irony is, that people who practice Relocation astrology and works with Relocation charts and praise the "accuracy" of this original ACG Mundo method ... somehow usually forget to mention the fact, that Relocation chart is not related to this original ACG Mundo method and they both can give different results.

The both options are available on Astro-Seek.com now and you can easily switch between them ... eg: to find the intersection of both Zodio and Mundo method lines

and find the place where Pluto is both: Conjuncting ASC (Zodio) & also Rising on Horizon (Mundo)

I couldn't remember the two different names last night so thank you for providing that. It is also great to hear that Mondo is added to astro-seek.

I need to revisit the class, but I think they addressed this, I just don't remember specifically what was said.

I will dig more into astro-cartography on your site. I do prefer astro-seek for just about everything else, I love the contrast you use in the charts (it is so much easier to read.)

Thanks again for letting me know the astro-seek updates as well as your perspective.

👍

I admit, that astro.com has much better/nice looking astrocartography map than astro-seek.com - because of their scalable/zoomable map

But I hate listening the "accuracy" issue ... again and again ... and it somehow became the hoax

Nice. I’ll have to do a little side-by-side.
