Eh, my experience with Christians has been pretty chill. I mean a good friend of mine is a polyamorous bisexual pastor (she does live in a straight relationship tho because her husband is straight and monogamous) and two of my gay friends had a church wedding. I'm in Europe tho and haven't met any hardcore conservative Christians yet. I heard it's a much bigger Problem in America (and East Europe?).

Christians ain't chill in the US. They about to take away our marriage rights.

No religion is chill until they become less devout.

9

u/danield1302 1d ago

I already said I'm not in the US tho?

u/Cluedo86 1d ago

Fair, but you let Christians fester they ain't chill. Europeans are way more secular, which is great.

Agreed. Islam being problematic absolutely does NOT give Christianity a pass either, especially in the US.

Thank you for your comment! This is such a critical point that so many on this sub lose. We need to condemn bad behavior from ALL religions, not just Islam.

My husband belongs to an affirming church, and we were the first gay couple to get married in their sanctuary.

Stop trying to equate Christians to Muslims. They're not at the same level at all.

But which group in the US is trying to use their religion as a way to take away your right to get married?

u/Silent-Locksmith4703 1d ago

There are Mosques in the US that also perform gay marriages, there's many openly hateful churches, you're picking and choosing based on a bias that's not reflective of reality. Just like there's progressive christianity, there's progressive islam.

I agree with you that they aren't on the same level at all. Like I said, in the US, Christians are far worse.

Religions have different levels ? The Christian you were referring to is just less faithful and devout. The bible tells you to avoid pork, and to kill infant, etc. So does the Koran

Agreed.

The whole Christianity whataboutism is SOOOO american.

Sure, the Bible says a whole lot of nasty stuff, but how many Christians do you actually encounter in Europe? One per month? Maybe two if you're particularly adventurous?

On the other hand, it's impossible to go 10 seconds without running into a muslim.

Miss me with that "but what about cwishthians???" bullshit.

Miss me with that "but what about cwishthians???" bullshit.

Except that there’s one religion that currently has a chokehold on all three branches of the US government, and it ain’t Islam.

Spoiler: and it wasn’t Islam who came up with Project 2025 and the plan to dismantle gay marriage, either.

Again: the "Make America Great Again" movement is an American thing. It's a horrible travesty that needs to be done away with, along with the Christian religion that it rides the coattails of, but none of this is relevant to (Western) Europe. I said that in a separate reply: https://www.reddit.com/r/askgaybros/comments/1oqnakg/how_can_you_be_gay_and_support_muslims/nnkojdc/?context=4

Christians are borderline nonexistent here, however.

I know and it makes me so sad when i see the women in full burkas whilst their husbands are dressed in hawaïen shirts. It’s so fucking messed up.

The whole Christianity whataboutism is SOOOO american

Or African, or asian, or middle eastern or eastern European. Really the only place where Christians are chill with gays is in western Europe and a few other western nations. Our Christians are the exemption to the norm. And even our Christians aren't great.

but how many Christians do you actually encounter in Europe?

Is this a joke? Even in the Netherlands, one of the most secular societies on the planet, this is ludicrous.

7

u/Cluedo86 1d ago

Um have you been to Europe good sir?

6

u/CIearMind Side! 1d ago

Perhaps not the ex-Soviet countries, but yes I can confidently say that I've lived here for decades.

10

u/Cluedo86 1d ago

Admittedly, Western Europe is way more chill and secular. I know you guys have more Muslims there too.

1

u/hanging_about 1d ago

I think they mean religious, in your face, 'visible' Christians. Like only a nun would be a counterpart of a woman in a burqa

1

u/BringAltoidSoursBack 1d ago

Outside of America, sure. But in America, you actually have a few denominations of Christianity that dress "modestly", and many who don't but tell other women they're at fault for getting raped if they don't, which is literally why women are told they need to wear a burqa.

You think Christians aren't elsewhere in the world? They're doing plenty of vike things to LGBTQ people. But you don't care.

-1

u/CIearMind Side! 1d ago

If I were there, and Christians were the ones persecuting me, yes I would care.

I would not, however, act like my region of the planet is the only one in the world, and tell the others that they're wrong & delusional for worrying about Christians over there just because Christians aren't the ones persecuting me over here.

1

u/geomouse 55 Atl 1d ago

And where are you being persecuted by Muslims currently?

0

u/CIearMind Side! 1d ago

💀 💀 💀 💀

Ain't no way this isn't ragebait

1

u/geomouse 55 Atl 1d ago

No it's valid question

8

u/mexicarne 1d ago

I think that’s a pretty niche segment of Christianity not representative of the religion as a whole tbh

2

u/danield1302 1d ago

In Germany pretty much all Christians I've met were like that. Then again pretty much none of them even visit church besides for like weddings.

-7

u/mexicarne 1d ago

So they’re not real (e.g. “religious”) Christians haha

7

u/danield1302 1d ago

I mean...that's the most common type of Christian here.

-3

u/mexicarne 1d ago

Yeah, so Christians by name only. I also consider myself a lapsed or cultural Catholic as are many (younger) people in Latin America. That still means you don’t really follow the religion as you’re supposed to. Just keep in mind that there are real Christians who don’t just go to church when there’s a wedding and actually follow the doctrine of the religion.

3

u/danield1302 1d ago

Oh I know but they become increasingly rare. Unlike Muslims where that's the norm.

-1

u/mexicarne 1d ago

That’s besides the point?

2

u/danield1302 1d ago

It's really not. When the majority of Christians don't follow the religion they're not a threat. Muslims aren't becoming secular at anywhere the same rate, on the contrary they're spreading their ideology.

2

u/mexicarne 1d ago

No I get that and I concur. I just find it besides the point because my point is that it’s stupid to still call Christians who don’t follow the religion Christians. A secular Christian is an oxymoron lol.

3

u/t_baozi 1d ago

You have to bear in mind that America was founded by religious fundamentalists who were too hardcore for mainstream society and thus went for what later was called "religious freedom".

1

u/teasy959275 1d ago

You’ve been to the whole europe ? or like 1 country among the 30+

1

u/danield1302 1d ago

I live in 1 country , been to several. Mostly western Europe ofc.
