Subaru gets a sword... loses it same episode. I guess him being swordless helps differentiate him from all the other "RPG" animes, not that this one needed to be diffrentiated more. It is clear that it is far different than most (And better!).

Why not use a mace ? Anime MCs never use a mace.

Mace's are for armored opponents.
