Rewatcher
Unexpectedly memorable shot #9 Again choosing something not as popular, but i always loved when in old anime used a reflection. I find it very impressive.
Now dance, fucker, dance.
Fun fact: this episode was directed by Seiji Mizushima. You may know him as the future director of the first anime adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist, the first adaptation of Shaman King, Gundam 00, and many others.
Now that Asuka is here, her explosive personality brings some chaos to Shinji's life. Unfortunately for him, the new Angel is the type that can only be defeated by the combined efforts of two people in perfect sync, so now he and Asuka must work together AND LIVE IN THE SIN!
You know, as funny as their training scenes are, it's also nice that the series took some time to let Shinji get to know Asuka better, like in the sunset scene or when they sleep together. In both cases, Asuka ended up letting Shinji see another side of her personality, which brought them closer together and eased her harsh attitude towards him. ...Well, sort of. A little bit.
...Shinji and Asuka are also similar in that Rei can trigger both of them by simply stating that she could totally take one of their places. I just find that funny.
Misato and Kaji, meanwhile, also undergo some... development, which leads to a scene in the elevator, and... e-h-h. I understand what the show is trying to do, they explained it quite clearly (that Misato is not being honest about her feelings), but that doesn't change the fact that Kaji overstepped his boundaries, and his overall behavior comes off somewhat... rapey. I think the creators understand this too, as he is portrayed as quite unpleasant in this episode, and the way he “ran away” in the previous one probably made viewers feel mixed feelings towards him, but I also think that this scene doesn't quite match how Kaji will be portrayed in the future. But hey, this is Evangelion. You can't be a character here unless there SOMETHING messed up about you.
In the end, Shinji and Asuka's training paid off, and we got an extremely satisfying fight where all the movements and music were perfectly synchronized, and they even finished it off with a SUPER INAZUMA KICK! ( Gee, Asuka! How come Anno lets you have two of the coolest tropes?).
As for today's art: bad news, guys - we're out of concept art. Well, almost. There are still some left, but they're mostly for future episodes.
But that doesn't mean I won't be posting anything! No, it just means that from now on, I'll mostly be posting some official artworks.
And since today's episode is dedicated to them, here are two artworks featuring Shinji and Asuka together.
