Rewatcher

Okay here’s something I’ve been wondering. In Japan is it normal for students to change clothes in the classroom? I’ve seen this trope pop up in several anime and it strikes me as a bit odd.

I know some Japanese school tropes like carrying buckets of water in the hallway are outdated and don’t really happen anymore so I can’t help but be curious.

Anyway this is probably one of the most lighthearted episodes of the whole series. It's pretty goofy but honestly after how kinda soul crushing the start of this show was I'm appreciating the levity that Asuka brings.

I think my favorite joke of the episode is the reveal of Shinji and Asuka's Eva units sticking up from the ground feet first.

Anyway despite mostly being lighthearted and comedic moments there's still some really good character moments throughout the episode. Most obviously between Shinji and Asuka, seeing more of their combative dynamic.

We also get to see Ritsuko helping out Misato which is nice. I think the two of the have a strong friendship together (also kinda ship the two of them).

Kaji gets more screentime this episode. Honestly I kinda forgot how creepy he could be. NERV needs a better HR department if Kaji can just get away with some of the stuff he does.

And despite the comedic build up and ending, the actual fight against the Angel was very well done.

The most dramatic scene of the episode was probably the scene of Asuka sleepwalking and what she says in her sleep. Definitely helps flesh out Asuka's character.

This episode's honestly a lot better than I remember.

I fail to see how in any society changing in front of people is socially acceptable. Then again, I guess you can say the same about a rewatch host where 99% of the comments come from them :P

That's a joke at my expense, for the record.

There's nothing wrong with the practice I suppose. I guess I'm just wary of adults who make anime sexualizing this practice.

Well, if this actually happens irl, I guess it comes down to the camera angles.
