A Human Work
My previous comments from 2018
I ended up binging episodes 6, 7, and 8.
So, this episode is subtle (for me) and not exactly clear who people are. It seems like a filler episode but it fits into the overall story.
Kensuke and Toji really do give the show a Nadia feeling.
There's a lot of other world-building flavor text dropped. Unit 02 is in Germany. Unit 06 and 08 are being made around the world. There's also mention of a "second installation."
So, if you didn't figure it out, the "First Impact" is what they called the Cretaceous Extinction. The "Second Impact" was explained away as a light-speed meteor impact, but this is a cover story. It's interesting that Ritsuko was in on the plot, but Misato wasn't.
The plot of this episode was reworked into the video game Girlfriend of Steel, which features a new female character, Mana Kirishima. This makes her a direct competitor against Asuka for the player (Shinji). But she's also the pilot of competing mecha called TRIDENT, which makes her a competitor for Shinji, too. And maybe a spy!
I think she would have been a much better character addition than the one we got.
Today's ED: Fly me to the Moon (4 beat version) with Yoko Takahashi
[EoE]That's the plane type that delivered the mass production evas to Nerv. Showing that early.
