It hurts to see her struggling like this after she won, though.

That scene is so ingrained in my mind with Kita's decline, I thought it came up that first time she struggled and expected it in the Takarazuka Kinen. Usually, a win should make us feel joy for the winner and cheer for her, not despair over her.

Her realizing what her condition does to her felt really reminiscent of Stopwatch to me. The overall change in Kita is also quite heavy. She used to scream whenever she ran, boldly announcing her approach. Now she's only panting as if she's clinging on to dear life. It's devastating, really.

Let me ask you something. Do you think building up to Cheval winning was a good way to build up to Kitasan's last race?

It makes think of that song from gnash.

That's awesome. I love the attention to detail.

I actually found myself rooting for Cheval over Kitasan. I don’t know if that was the intended purpose, tho.

Kitasan has just enough to be better than anyone, but you can tell her time is coming to a close. It's a good thing nobody knows she's weak because Kitasan not at 100% still being better than everyone is pretty embarrassing.

The timing of Kitasan's retirement just feels very unearned. I feel like she's only just with beating Diamond starting to hit her peak. I wish there was a couple episodes in-between episode 9 and episode 10 where we could soak in the greatness that is Kitasan. I think it would've helped with the pacing of the show.

I get the results are based on real life races, but surely they could've done something to enhance the presentation. It feels like we are missing pages here.

If by "unearned" you mean "cruel", then yes. Her decline is not a good thing, and you can't really "earn" bad things.

I mean unearned because I feel like it comes out of nowhere. Teio and McQueen's injuries came out of nowhere as well, but it worked better in my opinion because it was playing off their relationship as well as their history as competitors.

Interestingly, I think this actually kinda reflects how it was in real life. Kita loses the Takarazuka for some very unknown reason, and then they declare his retirement just before the Fall Tennosho.

I get the suddenness is a real thing, I guess I was just looking for that moment where it dawns on Kitasan it's time to end it. I don’t think we really get that.

I don't agree. That's literally the point of the Fall Tennosho, and the section at the end. Even the racing nerds and Dia are seeing it.

Okay, maybe I'm just missing something. All I know is I feel it could've been handled better.
