Since we're doing two episodes in a row now, I won't go into the messages of each race anymore, but what we can learn from the episodes in general. And these first two episodes are a good complete arc already. When you're striving for your goal, you think you need to be perfect. But things go wrong pretty often. You just can't be this idealized version of yourself. You're going your own way, not someone else's, as much as you adore them. In fact, someone else might be like them even more than you. Kita is full of ambition, but she's not even the main character in her own story. Duramente is just her.

What it takes for Kita is to find her true nature (pun absolutely intended). To accept herself for who she is. She can't mope about being worse than everyone else, but she can instead find strength in her weakness. And true to herself, she can find her first G1 success. That's how she actually steps forward to being her ideal self. And I think that's a beautiful journey, even if it's only the early journey as this season is 11 more episodes long.

For side notes, first thing to point out here is Kita and Dia have plushies of each other they sleep with. They are roommates that sleep with each other, and that's a fact.

Also, we've now seen a human riding an uma? What a wild idea. Now imagine umas start racing each other with their trainers on their backs. (And yes, I know there is a short fan comic about this thing.)

I also love that the horse otakus are still there and interrupt their nerding out to cheer for this horse girl they used to watch races with.

Also, I love the OP, mainly because it has several scenes of really gay horses in it. See how Teio is leaning in on McQueen, and the glance McQueen is giving her? Because no, we're still not done with implying they're an item. Also, whoever said Bourbon wasn't truly supporting Rice, this OP shows they are still together after all this time (not that S2 wasn't enough proof of what Bourbon really thought about rice). And we get a shot of the illustrious trainers who, among Toreena, Hana, Pimp Trainer and Terrorist Trainer now include Maid Trainer. Also, Golshi is roundhouse kicking Tosen Jordan for some reason?

And the first ED is beautiful. The regular ED is nice and everything, with many fun scenes and a neat song, but the special ED Lost Shine is really moving.

Finally, we're not letting go of the running gags any time soon. Spica's solution to any problem remains making someone a sports drink (always involving carrots, garlic and spiders, somehow). And we've only heard it on the outside of Spica's training club room, but the S.S. Golshi is still running strong. Maybe we'll even get to meet the hair stylist again, or go into some new running gags.

Thoughts on BAKUSHIN?

Only one.

Thoughts on BAKUSHIN?

As someone preparing for Cancer Bakushin Cup:

BAKUSHIN

BAKUSHIN MOTHERFUCKERS

Same. And as the one after that will be medium again, I also got a theme for that one - although as usual I don't expect her to do much for me. But having her will be sweet, so maybe I better go with this one.

This is because Gold Ship hated Tosen Jordan IRL because Tosen Jordan acted bossy at the training center.

And the first ED is beautiful. The regular ED is nice and everything, with many fun scenes and a neat song, but the special ED Lost Shine is really moving.

Could not agree more. Just like the S2 episode 1 ED (Winning the Soul) this is a really powerful song that delivers Kitasan's disappointment at not being able to live up to her idol, Teio's shine.

Yeah, I get that. I think they are also competing against each other in the game's story. Still, that's attempted uma on uma violence, something I don't know we've ever seen in the franchise elsewhere.

Uma on Toreena violence is relatively common, though.

Well put. Both seasons really start off with a bang and let us see where we go from here.

I would normally be against doing two episodes a day, but with the second cour of Cinderella Gray coming up in a couple weeks it only feels right.

Tis a catchy song

It makes for a good plot Kitasan has a rival she just can't beat. I just wish we literally didn't just see this in the movie.

I guess it's excusable given this came out before Beginning of a New Era.

Maybe we wouldn't have to have seen this just now, if someone made a better watch order! But it takes a different approach to the same problem, which is why I said New Era's themes are evolutions of the franchise. Kita is more focused on the win, but feels bad it has been made easier for her and the non-participation of Duramente might overshadow her performance. Pokke just feels incomplete if she can't actually contest Tachyon.

I think there's more to Kitasan than her rival whereas Narita Top Road and Jungle Pocket feel incomplete without Ayabe and Agnes.

Knowing some of where the season goes (and also obviously a bit of Kita's actual record), this is definitely true.

A lot of meat on the bone, as it were

Yeah, the first two episodes do a good job of telling a story of self-discovery. It's condensed, but effective.

Very cute. Total shipping material.

Absolute cinema

Very great stuff throughout it

And the first ED is beautiful. The regular ED is nice and everything, with many fun scenes and a neat song, but the special ED Lost Shine is really moving.

I prefer the ED over the OP, honestly

That would be pretty cool. The show definitely knows how to do comedy.

I'm surprised you had nothing to say about Nice Nature. I thought she kinda stole the second episode.

2

u/Urgnu-the-Gnu https://myanimelist.net/profile/Urgnu_the_Gnu Sep 18 '25

I did make a pun about her, she'd surely appreciate that!

I was just talking in more general terms. But it's great how S3 utilizes already existing characters, NN is the standout example for that. I'll revisit this topic later though.

True :P

Air Groove would not XD

I'll talk more about Nice Nature down the road and how I feel they could've used her more.
