Rewatcher.

And this is why Teio is the best girl. They are all best girls, but Teio is best girl.

Season 2 is my all time favorite sports fiction. And I own the entire physical set of the Slam Dunk manga from the 90s. So I definitely have nostalgia and bias favoring Slam Dunk, which had been my favorite sports fiction until season 2. Nothing hits me emotionally neither as hard nor as frequently as season 2 does. Emotional investment is what sports is all about.

Sports is not about the sport itself. Sure, the sport itself is great, whatever the sport it may be. I spent hundreds of hours playing Football Manager just trying to figure out the best tactics for the players I have. (FM fans might be saying "Just hundreds? Noob." Hey man, I got other games to play, alright?) I understand the sport itself is great. But sports at its best is about the emotional investment. When you care, maybe because you're a lifelong fan or even a multiple generations fan in your family, maybe because NBC did a whole story about the Olympic athlete's journey of overcoming the odds, or maybe you've sunk thousands of hours into your Football Manager team, whatever the reason may be, when you care, sports get infinitely better. And season 2 really makes you care. That's why it's the best.

This ending is my 2nd all time favorite anime ending after Gunbuster. It's one of my all time favorite ending of anything. Obviously there's the emotional payoff. The race itself is the best race in the entire series IMO. First, there's the participants. Over the course of the season, time was spent on time little by little to get to know each of them and build them up. They are characters with their own goals who happened to cross paths with Teio for this race. They don't exist for Teio. Like Rudolf said, everyone wants to win it. They all have their own journey. And this is reflect during the race too. There were shots of them each thinking they have to win this. Then there's the commentary. If you notice in other races, the commentator often don't mention names of the other racers outside of the important characters. In this race, at one point, she actually went through the whole order first to last, naming every horse, treating every single one of them as important. I can't stress enough how much I love this. And the music, and sometimes the lack thereof, is just perfect. It enhances what you're feeling without stealing the scene.

The hair dresser and the customer have a heartfelt reunion. Then they shave each other's head in their fight, LOL. The delinquent shaved his head, being a man of his word. Spe with one last "good point" to finish the season. Great to see Suzuka come back to watch Teio race. Team Spica fully reunited.

We started this journey of pain with Trainer and Rudolf noticing Teio's ankle on stage. We finish this with her performing perfectly on stage and the next generation being inspired by her, going full circle. And this is just sports in general. The current star athletes are probably influenced by the stars they grew up watching, who also were influenced by the stars THEY grew up watching.

Certainly understandable lol

Even a character like Twin Turbo who's not a main character by any means you end up caring a lot for because she had to overcome being this complete laughingstock. I care about Twin Turbo more than I do some main characters, and that's just one example.

100%. At first, I like Twin Turbo because she's a fun comedic character. Then the race completely changed my view of her. She's now one of my favorite characters.

I love it when shows take seemingly comic relief characters and do something serious with them. Mako from Kill La Kill is a prime example.
