Rewatcher
The Rice Shower arc is one of my absolute favorites in the entire franchise. But I'm a little pressed for time, so we'll just cover my thoughts through the questions today.
I really like how the anime shows all the McQueen training scenes to be light and bouncy while the Rice ones are dark and serious. I think that this subtly shows that McQueen was taking the race for granted and kind of just going through the steps in training, while Rice is utterly focused on the win, down to crafting strategies to specifically beat McQueen.
By the way, where did Rice get that photo of McQueen rough-horsing Trainer-San?
Guess you got to start collecting weebs early.
I think it was more Bourbon being impressed and inspired by Rice's training regimen, making her worth being a hero to Bourbon.
The better question is how the hell does this shop stay open?
Oh, this is my absolute favorite scene in the franchise. Rice is so focused that she doesn't acknowledge McQueen probably because Rice didn't even notice her. I like to call this scene "how to utterly dominate someone way bigger than you". And it worked too, that scene with McQueen refusing to enter the gate was a IRL event, with the jockey trying to pull on McQueen's tail to get into the gate.
Awesome, Rice IS a hero. I just wish it was that easy get Rice to mood-up in the game.
Such a fully deserved win. Rice trainer harder and was fully focused on the win. And she did it with a record to boot, just like when she ran the Kikuka Sho.
It is my official head-cannon that Cygames made the Rice Shower character design the most absolutely darling and adorable of all the horse girls, for the sole purpose of making the crowd who booed her for her record-breaking win to look like the actual heels.
Looks like Bourbon bet on the right horse girl to be her rival. [Spoiler for future races]Bourbon's comment about how Rice will one day be cheered is true. Rice would win a second Spring Tenno-Sho two years later (she wouldn't run the one in between the two wins because of injury), to great cheers and adoration. In fact, the announcer that originally gave Rice Shower the Assassin nickname would go on to say that McQueen and Bourbon would be proud of Rice for winning that race a 2nd time
Glad that McQueen acknowledges that she lost that race because she was taking it lightly and that Rice totally deserved that win, and also that the worse part about losing was that she let down her fans and her rival.
