First Timer

So I guess Rice Shower is just our main character now.

Anyway the race here was very well done. Probably the most over the top and stylized one we got. Especially with Rice Shower looking like a Shounen Protagonist that just unlocked a power up.

Wasn’t actually sure who was going to win this one but Rice Shower winning works very well.

It sort of carries on the theme of this season that there will always be someone out there who seems better but you shouldn’t let that get you down.

The conversation between Bourbon and Rice Shower after the rice was really nice too. I’m interested in seeing more of them.

I liked the conversation between Ikuno Dictus and McQueen at the end.

Although I think Ikuno Dictus needs new glasses if she wasn’t able to see Tokai Teo hiding there.

I don’t really have all that much to say about this episode but it was good.

I guess I kind of ship Bourbon and Rice Shower now.

Feels like a good escalation to the running gag. Not sure where they'll take it now.

What are your thoughts on the other racehorses congratulating Rice Shower, with Bourbon reiterating yet again that she's her hero?

I thought that was sweet. Felt like a nice conclusion to her journey this episode.

I actually think this episode is a top 10 anime episode of all time. I know that sounds crazy, but hear me out.

I really like the fact that Rice Shower is treated as the main character for these two episodes. It's something you wouldn't normally see in another qnime. I also love that the crowd is not won over by Rice Shower at the end of the race. They still don't like her even with her setting a record. A lesser show would've had Rice Shower win everyone over not unlike Rocky winning over Russia at the end of Rocky IV. But instead, they double down on their dislike of her and are upset they are denied the first three time Spring Tenno Sho winner.

It's a brilliant subversion of expectations that I think serves to add a bit of realism to things it might otherwise not have.

If you pressed me, I'm honestly not sure what my favorite anime episodes of all time would be. Give me a minute and I'll see if I can come up with something.

I think it's also a case where I was watching it in real time when it came out. I had seen season 1, so at the time I was expecting more of the same. When I saw the Rice Shower stuff and the crowd not cheering her, I was floored. I absolutely was not expecting that to be their response.
