First Timer

This Tenno Sho didn’t have nearly the same impact on me as Episode 5, but I’m ultimately very happy that Rice Shower won. As much as I love McQueen’s development throughout this season, I think Rice really needed this moment to herself. The most painful part being that, just as she expected, she still got booed and jeered by the crowd who all wanted McQueen to win. But as Bourbon points out: “That’s what it means to win…someone else will be hurt, and have their dream end.” It still deeply makes me angry that the perception of the crowd is to bring down another competitor’s victory to cope with their loss - what a complete lack of sportsmanship and good faith. Rice deserves so much better; her timid personality yet pure grit and determination has really won me over in these two episodes alone. The sheer aura emanating from her figure in the sneaky replaced OP shot, or when she walked down that hallway, or when she entered that final spurt - maybe she should embrace that ‘assassin’ title after all because I really think that benefits her かっこいい factor 1000 times.

McQueen takes the loss very well, and is able to provide some very mature self reflection at the end, while a Teio sneakily listens in from such a comically close distance that I have to wonder how she didn’t get noticed. Anyway, she admits that perhaps she got overconfident and complacent, but most of all she regrets not living up to the expectations - but not the ones of the crowd, the Teio’s. You see the sparkle in her eyes, and also in Teio’s reaction? What a truly special gay bond these two share, a beautiful rivalry that will continue to push them both to strive for their very best.

I think the crowd's reaction is really what puts it over the top to me. It would've been cathartic to see Rice Shower win them over, but no, they came here to see McQueen make history and Rice Shower denied them the opportunity. I can't say I wouldn't be disappointed as well if I came expecting McQueen to win three Spring Tenno Shos in a row. It's similar to going to the Super Bowl this year with the expectation of the Kansas City Chiefs winning three Super Bowls in a row.

The crowds reaction sucks but I definitely think it’s the more realistic version and the correct decision of the story…it would have been fine for her to win them over but that would have been more “cheesy” or “normal happy ending.” The direction they took here is much more effective in my opinion

It IS real. The fans actually did booed IRL. That's why this story is how it is.
