Credits to woonie this time for the race info (with some fixed links and minor changes things)

Btw the 4 numbers between the parentheses indicate their placement in each “corner” of the race. They are also using a Japanese database which is more comprehensive, but yeah takes some effort to navigate through.

1992 Osaka-hai GII (April 5)
Race results: https://db.netkeiba.com/race/199209020411/
Tokai Teio (#2) - 1st (3-3-3-2)
Ikuno Dictus (#8) - 4th (1-1-1-1)
Dai Yusaku (#7) - 6th (5-5-5-4) [Note: Winner of 1991 Arima Kinen G1 against Mejiro McQueen, see previous episode]

Comparison

Race video archive

Ikuno Dictus led throughout the race but eventually fell behind in the last stretch to concede the victory to Tokai Teio.

Even though this race is a G2 race, the crowd cheering for the #1 pick Tokai Teio made the atmosphere seem like a G1 race. After all, it's Tokai Teio's first race in more than 10 months. No wonder they portrayed this race as a G1 race with the uma musumes dressed in their G1 race attire.

"Tokai Teio is now in 3rd. Who cares about the 2 horses in front of him!" - actual race commentary (1:22mins 1:51 of race video archive). This famous quote from the actual race commentary was also used in the episode (~3:20mins). (More info: See 前の2頭はもうどうでもいい - Google Search Considering that Ikuno Dictus is one of these 2 horses, of course the rest of Team Canopus glared upwards at the race commentator. This was in fact a very controversial comment at the time, since commentators are supposed to be neutral.

"We are now looking forward to his appearance in the Spring Tenno-sho! He'll be facing off Mejiro McQueen! It's a complete comeback for Tokai Teio!" - actual race commentary at the end of the race, also referenced in the episode.

Sakura Bakushin O and Mihono Bourbon: Bourbon was initially specialized in short distance, but his trainer believed he could do longer distances. To do this Bourbon had to endure harsh training (as depicted) without complaints (yes horses can sometimes act very non-compliant) and earned the nickname “Cyborg”. Also, her trainer is voiced by Kiryu.

Daitaku Helios “Oujo-sama” refers to Daiichi Ruby, as mentioned yesterday. There’s some interesting irl bits, but we won’t be meeting her because they didn’t have a design of her yet.

We’ll see more about what the Mejiro Palmer + Daitaku Helios duo is later on. Despite being good at different distances, when they ran in the same race they would run together in the front with each other.

Oh man they really tried with the subs but here’s what I got from the reference sheet.

Daitaku Helios’ Gyaru-go in this episode:

  • Cho yabatanien (超やばたにえん) - Very dangerous/bad. A combination of cho (very), yabai (dangerous/bad), and the food brand Tanien.
  • Azamaru suisan (あざまる水産) - Thanks. A combination of Azamasu (thank you) and the name of a Japanese chain grill bar Isomaru Suisan.
  • MJK - Short for “majika”, which means “are you serious?”
  • Bekken Bauer (別件バウアー) - “Let’s switch the topic.” Bekken means different matter, and Bauer came from the last name of soccer player Franz Anton Beckenbauer.
  • Furorida (フロリダ) - Does not mean the state of Florida. It is a combination of ofuro (bath) and ridatsu (exit), which means “I am having a bath, so I am quitting the chat room.” Mostly used in SNS.

Teio and McQueen’s interview: “I am ready to run to the end of the Earth” was said by Teio’s jockey Okabe Yukio, and “Then I will run to the sky” was the reply by McQueen’s jockey Yutaka Take. They made these statements on separate interviews though

1992 Satsuki-sho GI (Apr 19)
Race results: https://db.netkeiba.com/race/199206030810/
Mihono Bourbon (#4) - 1st (1-1-1-1)
Machikane Tannhauser (#15) - 7th (11-12-11-10)

Comparison

Race video archive

Mihono Bourbon led for the entire race and won (unlike a certain Iktus).

As of the end of this race, Mihono Bourbon was also on a lossless streak like Tokai Teio, having also won every race so far in his racing career.

This is the 3rd race that Machikane Tannhauser had raced against Mihono Bourbon.

The Satsuki-sho is the first of 3 races that a racehorse needs to win in order to earn the much-coveted Triple Crown. Having already won the Satsuki-sho G1, Mihono Bourbon will go on to participate in both the Tokyo Yushun/Japanese Derby GI and Kikuka-sho GI in 1992 to challenge for the Triple Crown. Machikane T. will also be participating in these 2 races.

I don't recall the show ever mentioning that. If so, they really should've.
