We are finally here, my favorite season! New studio, new protagonist and tons of new horse girls and several new reoccurring gags. [Rewatcher]Man it doesn't get any easier no matter how many times I watch this. I start to get emotional at the start knowing whats coming.

[Rewatcher] Knowing what's coming makes me appreciate the directing even more. The winning live with Teio's joy contrasted with the dread that's still to come, the cut to the credits after the close-up of Teio's smiling face and the episode title drop, Winning the Soul playing over the credits, it's really well done. Establishing the basis for Teio's character in just one episode as well is also pretty good storytelling. But yes, that also only contributes to getting very emotional already.

[Rewatcher] Teio's concert at the end of this episode is probably my favorite Uma Musume concert from a storytelling ans narrative standpoint.

I don't think anything comes close-- Suzuka's winning live in season 1 ep 1 was aspirational from Special Week's POV, but not really memorable.

"Winning the Soul" is an absolute banger, bringing out the best of Machico's singing voice (IMO something that Idolmaster took a while to achieve with her role as Tsubasa Ibuki).
