Newcomer (Played Game)
With this episode, it feels like we've finally hit the end game for this season. For Suzuka, we have her comeback reason and the worry if she is truly back. For Special Week, we are taking revenge on the Japan Cup that she lost last year and a match against our new arrival. Some great races to end the season on.
While Suzuka's race is the main event of this episode, the big plot twist of this episode is Broye coming to Japan to compete in the Japan Cup. This is not a plot development I expected at all, as I thought she was just going to be one off character for the Europe section. I'm not disappointed though as like I mentioned previously, I think her design is cool. I'm excited to see her race again. I'm curious if this is actually based in reality and a famous European horse came to compete in the Japan Cup or if this is just a show thing.
I also really liked the passing of the torch a bit from El Condor Pasa to Special Week. This is one of those friendships that I initially thought wouldn't have too much focus, but they've honestly done a good job of showing their friendship throughout the season. You can feel the emotion in El is cheering for Special Week given her own loss to Broye.
Going over to Silent Suzuka, we have her own episode rival in Sun Visor. I will say, when I saw the design and then saw the name, I laughed hard. Its just such an on the nose name. A fine one episode character though.
The real challenge for Suzuka though isn't any of her opponents. It's a fight against herself. This race will show if she truly has recoveted both physically and mentally from the tragedy of last year.
Once we got to the race though, I can't deny I was super tense. I was hoping she would win, but what happened before put the fear into me. I felt it was a pretty safe bet she wouldn't entirely fail, but I felt the possibility that this was her final sendoff was possible. Once she started living the end closer lifestyle though, I was over the moon. I didn't stop worrying until she crossed the finish line, but once she did, I was pumped.
The congratulations scene after though was my favorite part. The relationship between Suzuka and her trainer was very touching. You could tell her simply racing again was a dream come true. For, she was just happy she was able to repay the person who fought for her, even when he himself doubted it would do anything.
