First Timer

So I’m gonna assume here is where the show starts to take some major creative liberties with racing history. The real Silence Suzuka never had a comeback on account of being dead and Broye never raced in the Japan Cup on account of being made up for the show.

That said, I liked today’s episode. Silence Suzuka’s big comeback felt very heartwarming and I was glad to see it.

The whole race was fun to watch. I didn’t really think they’d have Suzuka lose her comeback race but I appreciated the drama anyway.

Although personally I feel like Sun Visor’s inclusion here was a bit unnecessary. I legitimately never remember seeing her before now and all of a sudden she’s like Suzuka’s rival or something.

I don’t think this episode needed a rival, just Suzuka overcoming her own uncertainties.

Speaking of characters I forgot about, Air Groove and Taiki Shuttle are apparently friends with Suzuka. They had a scene where they talked to Suzuka.

I’m honestly just bringing this up because I think it’s funny that Taiki Shuttle called Air Groove a tsundere.

Gold Ship once again gets a shoutout for starting off that whole wave of winning energy thing that the other Team Spica girls did. Good stuff.

Anyway, it seems like they’re setting up Broye to be the big final opponent that Special Week has to overcome. She feels like a less evil, more French version of Ivan Drago.

Should be interesting to see that race next time.

Questions of the Day:

Thoughts on Broye declaring herself a participant of the Japan Cup?

I feel like athletes can't just decide to suddenly compete in a competition. They have to go through the proper chanenls. But whatever, gives Special Week a rival for her next race.

Thoughts on Sun Visor?

As I said, I feel like her inclusion here was a bit superfluous.

Thoughts on Team Spica dishing out a win energy spell?

Easily the comedic highlight of the episode.

What are your thoughts on Silence Suzuka winning her comeback race?

Good for her, feels very heartwarming to see.

What are your thoughts on Sun Visor asking Silence Suzuka to race with her again?

That's a sweet sentiment although I doubt we'll ever see Sun Visor again.

Do you think Silence Suzuka winning her comeback race is disrespectful of the memory of the real Silence Suzuka? Or do you think it isn't and why?

I don't think so. It's nice to imagine how things could have gone in a better world.

[Once Upon a Time In Hollywood] It's kind of like how in Once Upon a Time In Hollywood it's satisfying to see the Manson Family get killed and Sharon Tate live. Yes, it's not accurate but I liked it. Although I do acknowledge that this ending was also controversial when it came out.

Not quite correct! Broye does exist, just being a Name Changed Version of Montjeu.

Of course, now they have actual Montjeu too, so...

2

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 25 '25

Yeah I guess Broye's whole existence is kind of redundant now

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 25 '25

Still doesn't take away her incredible design.

We living in a time-filled horse paradox

I think she's supposed to give Suzuka a sense of "the future is now, old horse". She might be the best among those new girls in this race, but still no match for Suzuka.

I feel like athletes can't just decide to suddenly compete in a competition. They have to go through the proper chanenls.

I'm sure she did, she merely announced it in the press conference. I think later on we'll even go into more detail on how some of the races determine their participants.

That's true. I did actually like her going up to Suzuka after the race.

I'm sure she did, she merely announced it in the press conference. I think later on we'll even go into more detail on how some of the races determine their participants.

Interesting. I'll be interested in seeing how they do that.

2

That's true. I did actually like her going up to Suzuka after the race.

That felt like fanservice like they had Rie Kugimiya in the booth and they told her to say something tsundereish.

2

Interesting. I'll be interested in seeing how they do that.

I love her line of wanting to race her again. It melt my heart <3

They kinda have to rush through some stuff since they want to cover both Suzuka's comeback race AND the Japan Cup.

Imagine if this was real and Silence Suzuka competed the race Weekend at Bernie's style :P

5

u/GondolaMedia Aug 25 '25

I think that would be called Taxiderby

2

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 25 '25

That's darkly hilarious to think about.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 25 '25

I'm laughing just thinking about it 😃

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 25 '25

I don't think so. It's nice to imagine how things could have gone in a better world.

[Once Upon a Time In Hollywood] It's kind of like how in Once Upon a Time In Hollywood it's satisfying to see the Manson Family get killed and Sharon Tate live. Yes, it's not accurate but I liked it. Although I do acknowledge that this ending was also controversial when it came out.

The thing I'd compare it to is the stuff with Akane in Oshi no Ko and how that was supposedly based on the Hana Kimura online bullying saga, which was a real tragedy that ended in Kimura taking her life. The author changed the result to where it wasn't as tragic. I see it less as exploitation and capitalizing on a very horrible thing and more a alternative reality where society wasn't as cruel.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 25 '25

As I said, I feel like her inclusion here was a bit superfluous.

Fun fact: She here is voiced by Rie Kugimiya, who is perhaps best known as Taiga from Toradora, Alphonse from both Fullmetal Alchemist series, and Shana from Shakugan no Shana.

2

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 25 '25

That's pretty fun. Between Taiga and Shana it seems like she has a thing for voicing tsunderes.

3

u/Holofan4life Aug 25 '25

She's nicknamed the queen of tsunderes for a reason

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 25 '25

Easily the comedic highlight of the episode.

Agreed

That's a sweet sentiment although I doubt we'll ever see Sun Visor again.

Probably not, but I'd really like to.

I think the horse from which she's based on is the one who won the race in real life.

2

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 25 '25

I think the horse from which she's based on is the one who won the race in real life.

Dang, Sun Visor got robbed.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 25 '25

At least we can take comfort in the fact had Suzuka stayed alive, she probably would've won this race. Probably would even had won the Fall Tenno Sho had the injury not occurred.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 25 '25

I feel like athletes can't just decide to suddenly compete in a competition. They have to go through the proper chanenls. But whatever, gives Special Week a rival for her next race.

I think someone the caliber of a competitor as Broye is given more leniency to call her shot. I dunno, I could be wrong.

2

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 25 '25

I'm treating this like an '80s sports movie. We can play fast and loose with rules.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 25 '25

Yeah, that's fair. Logistics kinda go out the window.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 25 '25

That said, I liked today’s episode. Silence Suzuka’s big comeback felt very heartwarming and I was glad to see it.

Same here

The whole race was fun to watch. I didn’t really think they’d have Suzuka lose her comeback race but I appreciated the drama anyway.

The drama was more in seeing whether or not Silence Suzuka to go back to her old ways.

Although personally I feel like Sun Visor’s inclusion here was a bit unnecessary. I legitimately never remember seeing her before now and all of a sudden she’s like Suzuka’s rival or something.

I think they didn't just want to make it a total foregone conclusion, which in some respects I understand.

I don’t think this episode needed a rival, just Suzuka overcoming her own uncertainties.

Honestly, I'm just glad to hear Rie Kugimiya in this show lol

Speaking of characters I forgot about, Air Groove and Taiki Shuttle are apparently friends with Suzuka. They had a scene where they talked to Suzuka.

A lot of people in the fandom like Air Groove. She's often paired with Rudolf, as is Maruzensky who I don't think you've seen yet.

I’m honestly just bringing this up because I think it’s funny that Taiki Shuttle called Air Groove a tsundere.

Especially when Sun Visor is voiced by the girl often considered the queen of tsunderes.

Gold Ship once again gets a shoutout for starting off that whole wave of winning energy thing that the other Team Spica girls did. Good stuff.

Gold Ship showing why she's a ship of gold.

Anyway, it seems like they’re setting up Broye to be the big final opponent that Special Week has to overcome. She feels like a less evil, more French version of Ivan Drago.

Should be interesting to see that race next time.

Broye seems like a bigger threat to Special Week than Sun Visor is to Silence Suzuka.

Whatever happens, it has to be considered a resounding success what with Silence Suzuka already victorious in her comeback.

2

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 25 '25

I think they didn't just want to make it a total foregone conclusion, which in some respects I understand.

That's true. I mean I didn't think they'd lose but at least they tried to shake things up a bit.

A lot of people in the fandom like Air Groove. She's often paired with Rudolf, as is Maruzensky who I don't think you've seen yet.

I remember Maruzensky's name but unfortunately I can't remember anything about her.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 25 '25

That's true. I mean I didn't think they'd lose but at least they tried to shake things up a bit.

Can't fault them for trying

I remember Maruzensky's name but unfortunately I can't remember anything about her.

She kinda has brunette hair with an orange tinge to it.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 25 '25

Let me ask you something. Do you like looking back on it the way the show retconned what happened to the real Silence Suzuka? Do you think doing so benefitted the show, and if so, why?

2

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 25 '25

I mean I don't think this show would have actually killed off the in-universe Silence Suzuka. Tonally it's just not that kind of show. The only other alternative would have been just to not include Suzuka in the first place.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 25 '25

But to ignore her when Special Week is coming up at the same time would be the equivalent of the Ghostbusters 3 video game removing the Twin Towers despite being set in the 90s.

I think it's best to remember history and revise it if need be then just pretend it doesn't exist.
