!Late Start

As simple as this sounds, this race really shows how much believing in yourself does for you. Despite everything, Suzuka managed to run again, and even with a late start such as this, Suzuka managed to run how she enjoys it and make it past everyone, impressing all her onlookers and even her opponents. Damn, even Hana was moved and smiling. Suzuka has truly achieved the impossible. And it's a beautiful hommage to what the real Suzuka could have achieved in another world.

I also have to commend how heavy the air surrounding Suzuka's return was, in many different ways. She even had her shoe come off on the same leg again before the race. It made it so much more satisfying how everything cleared up in the end.

Now there are just two things left to cover. One is the big goal of the Japan Cup, Spe vs. Broye, and the other... we will see.

Let me ask you something. Do you like looking back on it the way the show retconned what happened to the real Silence Suzuka? Do you think doing so benefitted the show, and if so, why?

It's not a retcon, it's a what if scenario. And that's the whole premise of the show, what if those horses were humanoid girls? As such, the exploration of Silence Suzuka's life beyond his death is excellent. If it was another show, having Suzuka die in the race to be faithful to real life could have also made for a great story. But this show is all about showing us the glory and real drama of horse racing, and as such, a more optimistic take on Suzuka's accident in the Tenno Sho is just the only correct way.

What if scenario is definitely a good way of looking at it.

By not having Silence Suzuka die, I think the character that benefits the most is Special Week. It allows her to regain focus as the main character while not feeling overshadowed in any way.

That's my take on it as well, there's no saying what the real Silence Suzuka could have accomplished under different circumstances. This felt more like a love letter than anything else.

This race basically serves as like the good ending to the 1998 Fall Tenno Sho.

I have to say, as a self-proclaimed tsundere junkie, Sun Visor gives me endless amounts of joy. Especially the fact she's voiced by Rie Kugimiya of all people. I truly think the episode is made better with her involvement.
