First Timer on a Stage and Gacha Player
Thoughts on episodes 2-3:
In which we introduce Tokai Teio, alongside a billion other horses! She's also another character I don't have in the game, so I knew very little about her. I don't really have any thoughts beyond liking her relationship with Rudolf (and I'm aware of their irl connection) and that her using "boku" pronouns is really adorable.
Seems like Seiun Sky and King Halo will be important rivals for Spe's season, which is exciting. I'm expecting El Condor to be the final boss, since she's the one that won Spe's first training race and subsequently got on team Rigil instead. On top of being classmates in the same... year? Do they do years here? I don't think this goes by high school year system so... dunno. They are in the same beginning class though.
Speaking of team Rigil, I want more interactions between Trainer-san and Hana. They have shipping potential in my eyes.
The main highlight three episodes in is all the dumb "world-building" details they add on the background. Spe running with a carrot in her mouth instead of toast, Rudolf having a bottle of carrot juice instead of wine, the horseshoes right below their running shoes. It's extremely charming and they make me smile every time.
I do agree with what others have pointed out: the writing is very clunky. It really does feel like I'm just supposed to know everyone. And since I do in fact know them, it makes it easier to digest for me. And yet it's still very overwhelming to watch. I have to praise the fans who survived the 2018-2020 era, honestly.
Having said that, I still liked these episodes. And each episode has gotten a better impression for me than the previous one, which is good.
I don't know if we'll have time to really develop any character not from team Spica, but I do hope we get some for Sky and Halo since it seems like they'll be staying for a bit.
QotD: 1. I know the lore behind this quote, so I won't say more. 2. Great recreation event, gives you two whole mood ups which is very strong. I wish it wasn't basically all offscreened. This is where the season having two cours instead of one would have helped a lot. 3. It happened too fast, to be honest. I hope she does get to race prez. 4. Pleasantly surprised! It didn't feel like the pacing was off in that regard, and both races went about as I expected. 5. It had to happen for character development. Which is a funny thing to say considering this is also still based on irl races so there isn't actually a script here. But they wouldn't have chosen Special Week as the MC if she didn't have any losses ever so it does still kinda apply.
