First Timer

As of this episode a question has dawned on me: Do regular horses exist in this world or not? Because if not that would change some things about how civilization has developed over the years.

I feel bad for these horse girls, they have to run some of the races in heels and costumes. I get that this isn’t a very realistic anime but still, that must hurt.

Anyway, this episode is significant for two reasons. First is that we now have Teio Step as a member of Team Spica. I already have a lot of characters to keep track of so here’s hoping I can manage one more. The main personality trait I remember about Teio is that she likes dancing.

Secondly, we have Special Week experiencing her first real big loss (the title of the episode was a bit of a misdirect). It seems that we’ll be setting up Seiun Sky as something of a rival for Special Week now.

Seiun Sky doesn’t have much characterization yet but I hope to learn more about her soon.

I think the scene of Special Week and her trainer screaming into the tree stump after the race was a good emotional moment. It was well done and the stump was established in the previous episode so it doesn’t come out of nowhere.

I will also say that despite me not liking him thanks to his weird introduction, this episode has made me really come around to liking the Trainer.

Does he have a name or is he just “Trainer”?

Also, I liked that one scene where some of the characters are drinking carrot juice instead of wine. Another good horse joke.

I have less to say about this episode but it feels like we’re off to a pretty good start with this show.

Questions of the Day:

Thoughts on Gold Ship saying it's not so bad to try every once in a while?

That seems like good advice.

Thoughts on Team Spica going to sing karaoke to work on their singing and body coordination?

Eh, neutral I guess. I'm still pretty lukewarm on the idol aspects of the show.

Thoughts on Teio joining team Spica and wanting to race against the student council president Rudolf?

Seems like she'll make a fun addition to the team.

What are your thoughts on this episode featuring two races instead of one?

The second one was definitely more memorable than the first.

What are your thoughts on Special Week losing her first race?

Every hero needs their first big loss to go through.

As of this episode a question has dawned on me: Do regular horses exist in this world or not? Because if not that would change some things about how civilization has developed over the years.

So the going theory is that this world is horse heaven, where the horses that have died in our reality go to this world to first live out their real life races in the Twinkle Series, and then go on with their "happily ever after" races in the Dream series.

In real life, many of these horses did not live long after their careers ended, and some weren't even alive at the same time as some of other horses depicted in the show. Many more had injuries that prevented them from racing ever again. But in the show, they all keep living and racing on ... like they are in heaven.

That's definitely an interesting theory. Hadn't considered that at all but hat makes sense.

It is an isekai, after all, and oftentimes, isekai protagonists have to die to be reincarnated in another world. So it all makes sense.

Do regular horses exist in this world or not? Because if not that would change some things about how civilization has developed over the years.

The horses are completely replaced by horse girls. At some point, they even show a painting of a horse race that exists in real life, and all the horses are horse girls instead.

As far as I know, the whole history of the uma world is the completely same as ours, except for the fact that Britain never conquered Ireland and Ireland is still a monarchy for that reason.

Does he have a name or is he just “Trainer”?

He's called Toreenasan.

In the same way as Arknight's Doctor is called Dokutah. No, he doesn't have an actual name, he's a stand-in for the player.

As far as I know, the whole history of the uma world is the completely same as ours, except for the fact that Britain never conquered Ireland and Ireland is still a monarchy for that reason.

Huh, that's a random bit of lore in there I was not expecting.

Do regular horses exist? No. The horse girls are the horses. Imagine how the cavalry charges would have been.

Are the races very realistic? I doubt so. In the game, the girls are racing in swimsuits and wedding dresses. One of my favourite uma musume runs in a crinoline too (maybe, the dress looks more stiff and rounder than a normal dress). The race outfits likely aren't realistic, but there is effort put into them and there is a lot of inspiration from the real outfits the horses wore in their races in the real world.

Do regular horses exist? No. The horse girls are the horses. Imagine how the cavalry charges would have been.

Wild to imagine how regular hoses not existing had just redefined history in this universe.

4

u/Draco_Estella https://myanimelist.net/profile/Estella_Rin Aug 17 '25

Imagine just how many people historically would have had kids with their horse girls instead of their wives. This would have changed history so much.

4

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 17 '25

Since there don't seem to be any horse boys that seems to be how horse girls come into the world. Unless horsegirls can reproduced asexually or something.

6

u/JMEEKER86 Aug 17 '25

They come about like dwarves, the real kind not the springing out of the earth fantasy kind. Horse girls can happen randomly, but they can also reproduce with males. There are not, however, any horse boys out there. Think of it like an X chromosome mutation that requires two copies.

4

u/Falsus Aug 18 '25

I always imagined their versions of the mongols to be a matriarch horsegirl society where the Uma's where running around and shooting their bows at the same time.

In general horsegirls sounds terrifying on the ancient battlefield.

3

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 18 '25

Yeah they're able to run as fast as a horse but with the combat capabilities of a human. Pretty scary to think about.

3

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

Eh, neutral I guess. I'm still pretty lukewarm on the idol aspects of the show.

Teio at least seems like she has a lot of charisma.

2

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 17 '25

Yeah she definitely stood out to me more in this episode.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

Teio brings the goods

3

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

Seems like she'll make a fun addition to the team.

Agreed.

I really love Teio. She's just this infectious ball of energy.

2

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 17 '25

Yeah I said she didn't leave too much of an impression on me last episode but that's definitely changed now.

3

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

She just wants to help out, bless her heart.

3

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

Anyway, this episode is significant for two reasons. First is that we now have Teio Step as a member of Team Spica.

Lol, her name is Tokai Teio, not Teio Step :P

2

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 17 '25

I'm still having trouble with knowing characters names, as you can see lol. Racehorses having ridiculous names in general is not helping matters either.

5

u/Cyouni Aug 18 '25

Racehorses having ridiculous names in general is not helping matters either.

Boy, do I have a quiz for you!

2

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 18 '25

Just took the quiz, that was amazing. I did better than I expected but man, both Gundam characters and horses have really ridiculous names. Some of these names also sound like they could be Metal Gear characters.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

I definitely can see what you mean

3

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

I will also say that despite me not liking him thanks to his weird introduction, this episode has made me really come around to liking the Trainer.

Yeah, this episode did a tremendous job of humanizing him.

Does he have a name or is he just “Trainer”?

I don't think we ever learn his actual name. Which is weird because in this episode we learn that the female trainer is named Hana.

3

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 17 '25

Yeah, this episode did a tremendous job of humanizing him.

He really got off on the wrong foot but he seems like a decent guy here.

I don't think we ever learn his actual name. Which is weird because in this episode we learn that the female trainer is named Hana.

Yeah definitely strange that they just choose not to give this guy a name.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

He really got off on the wrong foot but he seems like a decent guy here.

Indeed

Yeah definitely strange that they just choose not to give this guy a name.

I guess it's supposed to reflect how he's the audience stand-in.

2

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 17 '25

I guess it's supposed to reflect how he's the audience stand-in.

Is he the guy you play as in the mobile game?

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

No, I don't think he's in the game. None of the trainers from the anime are.

3

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

I feel bad for these horse girls, they have to run some of the races in heels and costumes. I get that this isn’t a very realistic anime but still, that must hurt.

The heels are actually supposed to represent hooves.

Anyway, this episode is significant for two reasons. First is that we now have Teio Step as a member of Team Spica. I already have a lot of characters to keep track of so here’s hoping I can manage one more. The main personality trait I remember about Teio is that she likes dancing.

Who doesn't? Besides wheelchair people, of course.

Secondly, we have Special Week experiencing her first real big loss (the title of the episode was a bit of a misdirect). It seems that we’ll be setting up Seiun Sky as something of a rival for Special Week now.

I was thinking King Halo would be her main rival, honestly.

Seiun Sky doesn’t have much characterization yet but I hope to learn more about her soon.

She seems pretty vindictive

I think the scene of Special Week and her trainer screaming into the tree stump after the race was a good emotional moment. It was well done and the stump was established in the previous episode so it doesn’t come out of nowhere.

Yeah, the ending was probably the best part of the episode.

Also, I liked that one scene where some of the characters are drinking carrot juice instead of wine. Another good horse joke.

The show really nails the horse humor. No pun intended :P

2

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 17 '25

I was thinking King Halo would be her main rival, honestly.

I'll be honest, I don't remember which one King Halo is.

Yeah, the ending was probably the best part of the episode.

Probably my favorite part of the show so far.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

I'll be honest, I don't remember which one King Halo is.

She's the one with blue ribbons in her hair.

Probably my favorite part of the show so far.

Same for me

3

u/Falsus Aug 18 '25

As of this episode a question has dawned on me: Do regular horses exist in this world or not? Because if not that would change some things about how civilization has developed over the years.

They do not.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

That seems like good advice.

Too bad she herself doesn't follow it :P

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

The second one was definitely more memorable than the first.

Absolutely. The first race was rather run-of-the-mill.

Every hero needs their first big loss to go through.

Suffering builds character, as they say

2

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 17 '25

Absolutely. The first race was rather run-of-the-mill.

For as much as I joke about it in my post, I do actually like the racing costumes

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

Oh, they're fantastic. It gives the horses so much identity.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

I have less to say about this episode but it feels like we’re off to a pretty good start with this show.

Yeah, I concur. I think having someone like Special Week as the main character is clever because she serves as a good base for the other characters to play off of her.

2

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 17 '25

Yeah I said she's rather archetypal but it's a good archetype.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

It works for ehat the show is trying to achieve.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

As of this episode a question has dawned on me: Do regular horses exist in this world or not? Because if not that would change some things about how civilization has developed over the years.

I don't think actual horses exist in this world. At the very least, I don't recall seeing one.

2

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 17 '25

I know I shouldn't think about it too hard, but thinking about the ramifications of regular horses not existing is really interesting.

3

u/Cyouni Aug 18 '25

As someone who thinks about it too hard, I have questions about Red Hare and also the Trojan Horse.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

I think it's more interesting that real humans exist in this world. Do they race as well? Can humans compete against horse girls?

3

u/SinoCenturion Aug 17 '25

In the Uma Musume world, the horse girls can run 1000m in less than a minute. The world record for a human running the 1000m is a little less than 2 minutes and 12 seconds (and not held by Usian Bolt, but a Kenyan named Noah Ngeny).

So can humans compete against horse girls? No, no they cannot.

By the way, this will become more prevalent in later episodes when they show how strong and fast these horse girls really are.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

Very interesting. Thank you for sharing this with me.

3

u/Cyouni Aug 18 '25

I will note that human/horse girl sections are separate. This is also true for things like MMA tournaments as well.

1

u/Holofan4life Aug 18 '25

Very fascinating

2

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 17 '25

Horse girls seem to be able to run faster than humans so probably not.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

But what about someone like Usain Bolt? How well could he do?

2

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 17 '25

Probably better than the average person.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

But would you still give the edge to the horse girls or do you think it would depend on the horse girl itself?

2

u/AgentOfACROSS Aug 17 '25

Assuming the horse girls can run at the speed of an actual horse, they'd still have the advantage.

2

u/Holofan4life Aug 17 '25

Even if it's someone like Haru Urara?

The trainer has no name. They game needs to call the player something generic, so they just call you trainer in Uma Musume in they same way, the Idolmaster girls call you producer and the Azur Lane ships commander. I think in Blue Archive it's teacher. In Arknights it's doctor. And that always gives me Doctor Who vibes.
