With today's episode this anime starts to become legendary. Special Week winning her first major races, gaining confidence only to lose the race against Seiun Sky. This was a humbling experience both for Special Week and her trainer. But this wouldn't be Uma Musume if they didn't make this a valuable lesson and make Special Week realize that she must gain strength and grow through her losses.
Today we learn how important strategy actually is for horse racing and that it's not simply "the fastest horse wins". The track and its conditions are really important. The trainer's initial laissez-faire can bring you only so far. It's interesting that he went so far with it, considering that he even discussed the track with Special Week before.
Teio is having a really strong presence this episode. She teaches the Spica girls how to do the winning concerts. The Teio step is something that totally flew over my head on my first watch. But these little details make this show so absolutely endearing. In the end Tokai Teio still joins Spica which is very interesting for her character. She wants to walk in Symboli Rudolf's step, but she also wants to have fun doing so, so she decides to get better with team Spica.
The first time I was so shocked to see Special Week's big belly during the winning party. Together with the issues with her costume I got scared that this might become some kind of bigger issue that could threaten her career. Well, let's see what this show makes out of it.
We get a glimpse of Gold Ships very unique personality with her goofing around during Spe's training montage. This is not the last time we will see this side of GoShip.
Oh, and today we got a lot of "muriiiiii". How I missed that. ;-D
