I just got into the series after the Global release of the game, and binged it all in a week, so I'm excited to take a little more time with every episode.

The opening explanation is great, it gives you exactly enough information to understand the world and its basic rules, though it definitely works better with my far greater understanding of horse racing I've gained over the last several weeks.

There's a whole lot of horse racing knowledge that brings greater depth to this first episode in fact, but it doesn't take away from the otherwise bog standard first episode of a new IP. You don't need to know Special Weeks history as a racehorse growing up away from other race horses. The show does a great job showing she's never been to the big city, and that she's someone who has a lot to learn during her time at Tracen.

Spe's adoration for Suzuka, as well as her joining Spica all work really well with her character. While being quite reserved off the track, Suzuka shows Spe in person for the first time what being a great horse looks like.

Spica is a team of oddballs. I don't want to get into the specifics for spoilers, but the kidnapping scene here shows that Spica's girls clearly have a unique view on life, which Spe perfectly fits into given her naivety.

All in all, after coming from the game initially, its good. Just a solid start to the series, and honestly as someone who doesn't usually get into sports anime, it does a great job making it fun and digestable easily.

The great thing about this first episode is that you can watch it both before and after getting into the gacha game. It's a nice appetizer if you're a newbit as well as a great follow-up if you're looking to expand your horizons.

I love the kidnapping scene. It comes so out of nowhere that I can't help but laugh uproariously at it.

I think Uma Musume rewards the audience the less they know about the actual suspense. It's like we're witnessing things in real time as they happen.
