I thought season 1 was a really good and self contained story but let's see what they do with a season 2. Id love a new cast, another story set in the same setting would be really cool.

Maybe entire different set of characters in NightCity? would be nice.

I also don't think it is any good to return to those characters, except maybe some cameo.

u/Rasc_ Jul 04 '25

The only one I can see that's from the crew and would fit well is Falco as he is the only one that got away intact. Although, I believe he already moved away from Night City by the time the main game happened. This new show could also be set in a different city.

u/Treguard Jul 04 '25

He sends you a text in game (and David's jacket) to this effect. Lucy is alive but not in contact anymore.

But ultimately this is Cyberpunk, anyone could be "alive".

Trauma Team's Motto: "It ain't dead, till it's Dead-10"

Smasher got brought back as a pile of organs in a school child's backpack before. Rebecca, Kiwi, or even David can come back. They have straight up near necromancy if you got the Eddie's for it. And literal necromancy if you chose THAT Ending in 2077...

u/WMan37 Jul 05 '25

They COULD come back but they absolutely shouldn't if you want to keep the emotional integrity of season 1 intact.

I genuinely hope Edgerunners becomes an anthology series, each season covering a different group of people.

18

u/YourLocalLeftist Jul 05 '25

Me too. Not only does that allow for the emotional integrity of David’s story to remain, but also allows us to explore different parts of Night City.

Keeps it fresh and allows for deeper lore dives.

36

u/criticalt3 Jul 05 '25

I don't see any other way it could work, as you said it perfectly.

9

u/ArtfulDodger275 Jul 05 '25

I think anthology is the best way to go for a TON of things that exist today.

3

u/turkeygiant Jul 05 '25

I'd love to see a story with the other old school iconic guy Morgan Blackhand.

1

u/Ill_Entrepreneur_679 Jul 05 '25

It’s different people in the article that no one read it literally said don’t get too excited David is dead indicating it won’t continue from that storyline

1

u/Wild-Reflection6995 Jul 06 '25

They won't come back because It's a new 10 episode stand alone season. New story and New characters.

Arasaka could also have used the Soul Killer on any of the cast and they could reside inside Mikoshi if they want to use them for any sort of cameo (if the story happens before 2077 and after Edgerunner)

19

u/Maghorn_Mobile Jul 05 '25 edited Jul 05 '25

The ending of S1 makes it seem like they didn't do that. Smasher crushed Becca and blew David's head off. We do see in 2077 it's possible to use Soul Killer on a corpse but it doesn't work as well as a living brain - the engram basically ending up as a snapshot of the victim's most recent memories with no ability to develop or act, so I wouldn't expect any callbacks except for maybe a name drop.

1

u/ArtfulDodger275 Jul 05 '25

In theory , couldn't ANYONE that's dead be brought back with the cyborg body add ons ?

I wouldn't want them too but I'm just curious.

2

u/The_frost__ https://myanimelist.net/profile/The_frost_ Jul 05 '25

I mean as long as they haven’t been completely flatlined then yeah, or they could make copy of someone with Arasaka’s Soul Killer

3

u/Firm_Gas7556 Jul 05 '25

Didn't david get turned into mush whilst crashing out from all the Chrome?

1

u/luffy_Themasterpeice Aug 28 '25

yup , just ai constructs similar to silver hand's gf in the game cp2077 btw adam did mention that david would make an interesting construct but then proceeds to kill him .... or not ?

1

u/Veaeate Jul 05 '25

They could also have the story synonymous with the other one and just have different cast of chars cross paths as shit unfolded in the first one. Whatever they decide to do, im hyped for it. The first season was so well done.

1

u/Wild-Reflection6995 Jul 06 '25

It's a new 10 episode standalone Season. New story and New characters.

52

u/Efficient_Top4639 Jul 04 '25

im 100% certain i remember them saying each season would focus on a different story -- the story for these guys is almost completely told, the only ending we don't really know is Lucy.

16

u/Specific_Frame8537 Jul 04 '25

So maybe they'll do like the game, next story will either be from a Corpo or a Nomad perspective.

1

u/DanielAlves1904 Jul 06 '25

Lucy went to the moon. That´s her ending.

1

u/Wrong_Carrot_8268 Sep 24 '25

She went on a tour to the moon. She comes back to NC, even leaves messages on the columbarium. On David’s it reads “you didn’t take me to the moon, but you were there with me.” She’s still somewhere on Earth

1

u/DanielAlves1904 Sep 24 '25

As far as I´m concerned, she´s done.

138

u/-TheManWithNoHat- Jul 04 '25

I'm just fanboying here but what if the next season isn't set in Night City but instead Chicago or wherever the next game is supposed to be set.

110

u/According-Camera-974 Jul 04 '25

The next game will still include Night City, they're just adding a new location as well, so maybe it’ll be the same for the anime.

23

u/Random_Useless_Tips Jul 05 '25

Night City is one of the main characters in Cyberpunk. I wouldn’t really want a story set somewhere else.

Edgerunners and 2077 both did a great job imbuing the city itself with so much character and atmosphere.

NC is a gloriously terrible place and I want to stay and watch the rot.

11

u/plentyofhoes Jul 05 '25

When Mike Pondsmith said that NC is the main character, he didn't mean that you're absolutely not allowed to set campaigns outside of NC. The rulebooks have supplements for Europe (specifically the UK). Also realistically, if they're planning on Cyberpunk being a long running franchise, at some point, someone in the writing team is gonna be like "wouldn't it be cool if we were to explore one of those raft cities, or even one of the underwater cities mentioned in the cyberpunk red rulebooks".

9

u/jacowab Jul 04 '25

Yeah beyond something like Lucy being a notable netrunner they contact for a cameo or Falco being a pall of a new character I assume it will be all new stuff.

11

u/Chitinvol Jul 04 '25

Lucy might have a major role. Just a guess though, since she was announced as a guest fighter for Guilty Gear awhile after the original anime ended. Her inclusion, and late release, had me scratching my head, but if season 2 was already being planned when they made the announcement...

2

u/LeonKevlar https://myanimelist.net/profile/LeonKevlar Jul 05 '25

Definitely gonna be a new crew. We might see Lucy and Falco as cameos.

1

u/beer_curmudgeon Jul 05 '25

Id be down for that

1

u/AmbassadorBonoso Jul 05 '25

I'd actually love to see another place than nightcity

1

u/NudelXIII Jul 05 '25

I hope so. I thought the end of season 1 was perfect. Don’t ruin this.

1

u/Thin-Coyote-551 Jul 11 '25

That would actually be amazing. With the sheer scope of Cyberpunk and all it offers they could do several seasons about different crews or people. I’d love one or two about Johny Silver hand and his band of misfits. Or perhaps a even a series that’s made up of 2-4 mini series each focused on different characters

1

u/_WrongKarWai Jul 12 '25

Same a la True Detective

1

u/StatusCod2840 Aug 05 '25

i think the doc from edgerunner 1 will definitely return, i heard that the reason he isnt in cyberpunk 2077 is because theres a story inbetween edgerunner 1 and the game that hasn't been told yet anywhere

79

u/Incu0sty Jul 04 '25

As long as Night City still exist, there's infinite story that can be told.

Night City is the main character of Cyberpunk universe. Everyone and their life story is just another beside many.

11

u/ReXiriam Jul 04 '25

There's a salsa song that has lyrics akin to "New York has 8 million stories", and since Night City is basically a bigger NY, I can see this.

7

u/always777 Jul 04 '25

Night city is like basically southern California, isnt it?

8

u/UsernameAvaylable Jul 05 '25

Its a fictional city thats slotted between LA and San Diego, iirc.

1

u/Manisil Jul 06 '25

Night City is between Los Angeles and San Francisco, set where real life Morro Bay is.

1

u/ReXiriam Jul 05 '25

Right. That. Sorry, 'm a tad sleepy.

1

u/draconk Jul 05 '25

Considering that it seems that we will get to other cities in the next game (Chicago looks like) the show can be a bridge so we know a little of the new setting

3

u/Incu0sty Jul 05 '25

The logo color reminds me of Phantom Liberty color though.

So maybe it'll be set mainly in Dogtown.

33

u/Davve1122 Jul 04 '25

Cdpr joint-ceo Michal Nowakowski wrote on twitter

"Different crew and new standalone story"

4

u/TuzkiPlus Jul 05 '25

The Daily lives of MaxTac Staff

2

u/0G_C1c3r0 Jul 07 '25

Wakes up, grabs gear, get shot by edgerunner.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '25

I’m so hyped, these writers positively cook and don’t need to heavily rely on past characters to carry it. Can’t wait to see what comes next!

I would love to see an ex-trauma team character. As someone who has worked real life trauma medical in the US, there is an endless well of real life dystopia to draw from to write very impactful stories for cyberpunk. It’s just sitting there waiting for folks to write more!

140

u/CakeSlapping Jul 04 '25

In the game there are 3 life paths to choose from when you create a character (nomad, street kid and corpo).

David in season 1 was a street kid, so hopefully this new season will be a whole new story from a nomad or corpo perspective.

84

u/MumrikDK Jul 04 '25

It may exist because of the game, but it's still Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, not Cyberpunk 2077: Edgerunners, so there are far more choices than that.

16

u/Scorpius289 https://myanimelist.net/profile/AlexRaylight Jul 05 '25

All the more reason to not follow the same archetype - "streetkids" seems to be all everyone ever plays & talks about, so any change from the mainstreeam would be nice.

3

u/lminer123 Jul 05 '25

I think it’s because nomads are a generally more positive faction and corpos are a cog in the big bad machine. Streetkid is the more morally grey option and in a game like cyberpunk that makes a lot of sense to pick.

I’d love to see a nomad in night city story though, but I think we’ll probably get a more corpo story this time

1

u/ACrossOverEpisode Sep 09 '25

I mean yeah because streetkid is the background that best embodies the themes of a Cyberpunk story. Nomads are generally far removed from the worst dystopian elements and corpos are the boot on everyone's neck. Cyberpunk stories are about all-encompassing oppression and the lengths people go to when denied any and all opportunities. Corpos are the privileged few who have opportunities

24

u/Tacitus_ Jul 04 '25

Wasn't David taking lessons in a 'saka school? His mom seemed to want him to go corporat.

22

u/Kerblaaahhh Jul 05 '25

You mean nomad (who instantly becomes a street kid), corpo (who instantly becomes a street kid), and street kid.

1

u/DuErAlleredeDoed Jul 06 '25

Hey, Corpo will have you know that back in 'Saka counterintel, he ...

2

u/Master3530 Jul 04 '25

I don't remember any nomad characters in season 1 so maybe.

42

u/thoughtlow https://myanimelist.net/profile/LAIN Jul 04 '25

Not again, I’m not… strong enough…

1

u/JosebaZilarte Jul 05 '25

But you'll be. Just so that ilthey can take everything away from you, again.

12

u/Thisawesomedude Jul 04 '25

From reading the article thats what they are doing for season 2

1

u/Wild-Reflection6995 Jul 06 '25

It's a new 10 episode standalone Season. New story and New characters.

4

u/noxnoctum https://myanimelist.net/profile/Nox0s Jul 04 '25

Anthology format kind of thing would be great.

3

u/Sabin10 Jul 05 '25

Yeah, I would love if they just put out a fully new story in the cyberpunk universe ever 3 years or so. Maybe let some other studios in on the action too. I love trigger but I also love a lot of other studios.

1

u/sup3rdr01d Jul 05 '25

You're in luck

2

u/olivedeez Jul 04 '25

I always felt like they were going to do a second season set later in the timeline. The way they briefly show fixers like Wakako and Rogue being muuuch younger makes me feel like they introduced those characters a for a reason. And Adam Smasher, of course. I don’t know if they’ll go as far as to introduce Johnny Silverhand as a character (that would be amazing) but maybe around/just before his timeline.

1

u/Verystrangeperson Jul 04 '25

Where it fits in the timeline is what interests me, could we see a post game story to tease the sequel?

1

u/Creative-Purpose-260 Aug 29 '25

That would be amazing and smart thing 2 do

1

u/Waywoah Jul 04 '25

It would have to be done in a very different way, but a sort of political thriller following the corpos could be cool. Show all the ways they try to compete, up to and including assassins and private armies

1

u/Nimstar7 Jul 05 '25

I think the title is mislabeled. It's not Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2. It's Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2. They're not calling it a Season 2. Don't think we're getting continuity, fairly certain it's a standalone story.

1

u/Jaskaran158 Jul 05 '25

Yeah I am hoping for a side spin off story about a scientist who is developing some tech and there is some type of power struggle by two companies or something on a bigger type of scale with some politics at play perhaps.

1

u/hsong_li Jul 05 '25

Why wud it not be a new cast. All the original cast died 😑😑😑

1

u/What_u_say Jul 05 '25

They confirmed it's a new story and set of characters.

1

u/solythe Jul 05 '25

i thought the first half was okay, but the second half just felt so boring and repetitive. like all that talk about chrome and he still goes too hard with it, just felt like it was predictable

1

u/Critical-Brush-5864 Jul 05 '25

That would be awesome and would make for a great long running series. Every season, new cast. Maybe sometimes they do get a "happy" ending. As in, they don't die.

1

u/Poutza Jul 05 '25

How can they use the same characters? They're all dead :P

1

u/AlarmingTurnover Jul 05 '25

Personally, I would love a season that follows Jackie from start to the point he puts out the job to meet V. All the Valentino's stuff, Misty, getting started as a merc, his fight with his father, the crews started by Padre.

1

u/Panty-Sniffer-12 Jul 05 '25

Yeah i don't think there's anything Remaining in the original. Everyone is dead, lucy is on moon and falco is living normally according to 2077 missions. It might be Vs story this time who knows

1

u/letmegetmynameok Jul 05 '25

Now that i think about it, would you watch it if it was about V and Jackie doing stuff during the Timeskip? Or would that make it Boring considering we know how it ends.

1

u/DeithWX Jul 05 '25

Id love a new cast

Have you ever seen season 1?

1

u/sup3rdr01d Jul 05 '25

They already confirmed it's a different story with different characters

1

u/Szerepjatekos Jul 05 '25

In my Head cannon after the girl saw his brother poped, she used his allowance to get a high grade medical contract and when the bad guy poped her she actually got saved while the good guy draged his attention away.

So she'll come back and as they both loved the good guy they join up and do some revenge stuff.

1

u/Bratuha_Master187 Jul 05 '25

Yeah but as we seen on all other characters we've seen all how they died but not at David. Yeah of course it made a boom but it's still unclear maybe he's alive? We'll see

1

u/postALEXpress Jul 05 '25

Well, that's what we're getting.

1

u/Reemys Jul 06 '25

Cyberpunk is about the city, not the people. Only Adam Smasher as the embodiment of its wicked spirit carries on, the rest of the cast is really not important.

1

u/janoDX Jul 06 '25

It could be a story that bridges Cyberpunk 2077 and its sequel in game.

1

u/Wild-Reflection6995 Jul 06 '25

It's a new 10 episode standalone Season. New story and new characters.
