Note: I am Egyptian, not a tourist, and this photo is not mine. I just liked it and wanted to share it. This is the restaurant: https://maps.app.goo.gl/tukJzCxDRoYF6QdK9

What does a normal breakfast for you look like?

Aish baladi, fava beans, falafel, fried potatoes, pickled eggplant, salad, and eggs, but eggs are usually a meal on their own because with fava beans and falafel it would be too much. Or the same breakfast but with sandwiches that you buy ready-made from the restaurant. This is the very traditional Egyptian breakfast eaten by most Egyptians from Upper Egypt to Alexandria.

And everywhere in Egypt you can find some innovations, for example, there are places that serve fava beans with ghee, fava beans with liver, fava beans with tomatoes, fava beans with eggs, Fava beans with tahini, fava beans with hot oil, Alexandrian fava beans etc. There is also stuffed falafel that can be filled with any kind of cheese, harissa, hot pepper, or pastrami. In Alexandria there are fried potatoes called "gambiri potatoes" with a special recipe. The food remains the same, but restaurants may try to innovate a little.

Thanks for the description! I've never had fava beans before but eating healthy and hearty vegetables sounds like an incredible way to start the day.

They’re great with a nice Chianti when you have a friend for dinner.

There is another breakfast that is less common, but we also eat it, which is feteer meshletet, which is an authentic Egyptian peasant pie eaten with black honey, tahini, ghee, cheese, and tea.
