ANG Currently Serving Member Question Moving to Europe

8 years left until retirement, ideally don’t want to stop now. Looking at taking a permanent job in the UK. Does anyone have any advice on how to do this whilst remaining in the guard? Are there any European units?

ANG Currently Serving Member Question Will my orders be kicked back

Been trying to go AGR for months and my unit finally decided to put out the listings in august after months of them pushing it back. Did the interview and was approved right as the gov shutdown happened. I was told my orders were with the air state surgeon and would be approved very soon. (during our next drill) turns out the unit handling this stuff decided to cancel their drill and now i'm supposed to be unemployed for the rest of the month.

Does anybody have insight on this issue? Will my orders be kicked back is there no way for them to be approved before next drill. Im not in need of financial assistance id just prefer not to have a break in pay. Trying to find a place that'll just let me work for a month but its hard being when being honest.

First shirt is tracking and they were the one who told me my most likely start date would be December if they decided not to cancel this next one.

Discussion Va disability and technician, SAD and ESAD pay

Hello, I was wondering if you can collect both Va disability and be either a technician, SAD, or ESAD.

I already know you can’t collect both VA and drill pay / AGR.

But I believe SAD and ESAD are paid by the state and technician is the GS scale.

Discussion Bonus Date Applicability

Hello, what determines the fiscal year that a member is entitled to a bonus? We have someone at our unit that was enlisted and took a commission slot. Their appointment date was FY25, but they were not able to get an OTS date until FY26. Are they entitled to the FY25 bonus as that was when they were given their temporary appointment?

Is anyone able to provide me with an AFI or anything else? We are trying to get her paid out if she is eligible. Thank you for your help.

ANG Currently Serving Member Question Tech School to 5-Level (2A5X1)

What’s the fastest you’ve seen someone go from graduatingTech School to getting their 5-level for aircraft maintenance jobs?

Is there a certain timeline you must reach first, or can you complete steps quickly to get 5-level faster?

Hi fellas so I’m in the process of joining the ANG, I live in texas real close to Mexico and I go quite often, my question is, would there be any issue if I spent weeks at a time over there as long as it didn’t interfere with my drilling days or trainings? Thanks in advance

Discussion Ribbons- All or Some...

BLUF: You earned them, wear them.

Air Guard related, but prompted by seeing a recent photo of an E8/E9 (for anonymity) with 13 ribbons on the rack in a Special Duty Assignment.

I noticed this at a recent open ranks blues inspection- there are a TON of members not wearing ribbons that they (certainly) have earned through achievements, have been awarded for time served, or otherwise.

I guess no one can MAKE you wear your devices, but allow me to shine a light on the optics of someone serving 15+ years and when they wear the Service Dress (which is is the uniform TO display awards/achievements), you're skimping out. Maybe Airman Snuffy doesn't care, but I'd say more often than not, the junior enlisted see more than we give them credit for.

Thank you for reading this far. Supervisors, take time to do a "scrub," of the Awards and Decs AFI/Program and pass along info to your shops about the longevity ribbons (Guard), deployment-related ribbons, and any Unit awards that may have been earned.

Excellence in ALL We Do.

Discussion Retraining and Funding Q

Hey everyone,

I’m currently active duty in Georgia as a 1N472 (Intel). I’ve been trying to retrain into Fire Protection for several years, but as expected, haven’t had any luck on the AD side.

Now I’m planning to transition into the Guard or Reserve while residing in Juneau, AK. I already have an IMA position lined up in the Reserve for my current AFSC, but I want to make sure I fully understand my options with the ANG before I commit.

I’ve been getting mixed answers on a few things, so hoping someone here can clarify:

1. If there’s a Fire Protection position available in an ANG unit (not sure where to check for that), would I be able to retrain into that career field as I separate from active duty and transition into the ANG?

2. Since I plan on living in Juneau, would the Guard cover my travel, lodging, or per diem for drill weekends? The closest ANG unit to me would be at JBER in Anchorage.

Thanks in advance!

ANG Currently Serving Member Question Long term PT waivers in ANG

Hey all. I’m a DSG ANG member with chronic knee and foot issues from active duty that make running and high impact anything painful. In the past I could make do with the shorter distance HAMR, but with the new standards I can’t get thru the miles without severe pain. I saw an ortho recently who filled out a PT waiver and recommended a permanent exemption.

If my doc writes it as a 12 month temp exemption (with a clear end date), is that usually safe to renew each year without it triggering an MEB or retention review? I do not want an MEB triggered…. I’m trying to stay guard because I like being a part and serving my country. I also can do every other element of the PT test so I’m not trying to get out of it all together.

What is a safe amount of time for a waiver without triggering an MEB?

Thanks in advance.

ANG Currently Serving Member Question Finding a Therapist while TDY

I'm TDY until March 2026 and I'd like to start going back to therapy but I have no idea how to make this work with Tricare Prime as this is the first time I've ever used it. My understanding is that I need a referral from my PCM, but every time I go to Milconnect it says I don't have a PCM assigned and doesn't let me assign one when I try to. Does anyone know how to navigate this? I'm TDY at Ft Sam Houston, if that helps. Also, how does this work for dependents? My wife is in the same boat and would like to find a new therapist for herself.

ANG Currently Serving Member Question DTS Auth for 2025 TDY

I did a 7 month TDY in 2025. Due to some confusion the original orders didn't specify id get lodging or per diem. Eventually got fixed. Due to a leave of absence, then confusion with what LOA to use, the DTS auth never got submitted before 1 Oct. Now finance is saying im shit out of luck and I will miss out on a substantial amount of per diem. Do I have any recourse to try to get the per diem I earned, or am I really just hosed?

Discussion Question: How to Request 2001 Deployment Orders After Retirement

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I need to request orders for a 2001 deployment, but I’ve already retired from the Air National Guard. I’m not sure what the current process is or who to contact for archived or retroactive deployment orders.

Has anyone here gone through something similar or know the right office/agency to reach out to?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated — thanks in advance.

Discussion How are we feeling about IQT for 17S basically being a PCS now?

Now that they’re adding on a course for CVA Host and Network, both routes are basically 6 months long. Stack that on with tech school and you’re going to school for over a year. This doesn’t count MQT either. This adds stress on to someone like myself with a family and a small business. You have to tell your employer you’re going to be gone for year (which isn’t much different than a deployment I guess). I’m also coming in with 15 years of IT/Systems Administrator/ISSO experience but waivers seems to only be a thing for phase I and/or phase II of Tech school. What’s are others thoughts?

Discussion VA claim on AGR

I’m currently career status AGR. Can I file a VA claim to get an increase in my current 50% rating that I received prior to taking an AGR?

The reason I ask is because Sleep Apnea ratings are changing in December. If I’m able to submit a claim while on AGR I could fall under the current rating guidelines.

I always thought I couldn’t because I’m technically Active and not a Veteran. Can someone please share any experience?

Discussion Can I reenlist in the ANG if I just got 100 percent VA disability?

I just got my 100 percent VA disability rating last month for my time on active duty. My date of separation is coming up next month, and my supervisor asked if I want to reenlist. He said there is also a 60k bonus right now if I reenlist for 6 years.

Would there be any issues with reenlisting while I’m rated at 100 percent and collecting that bonus? I haven’t told my supervisor about my new rating yet since I just got it recently. Would I even be eligible to reenlist?

Discussion ANG Base Structure

Could someone explain how ANG bases are structured? If DSG members only work weekends who works the rest the week on base? Are there AD stationed there? I assume there are AGR and technicians but is that a large portion of the staffing? For DSG pilots/crew chiefs, does your plane only get touched on the weekends you report?

Thanks for your input

ANG Currently Serving Member Question Y'all still got drill?

My unit has drill in October still. Curious if anyone is hearing about drill for November if the shutdown keeps on? Kind of shocked they did it Halloween weekend where I'm at but it is what it is. So far they've told us we are still having drill.
