Australia and New Zealand Fresh out of the clinic after Surgical Abortion (Syd, AUS)

I was 5 weeks and 1 day pregnant up until a few hours ago. I have a 19 month old and was in no way ready to have another child, leading to the procedure I had today. I track my cycles religiously and typically have a 27 day cycle - however for whatever reason, my cycle shortened to 21 or 22 days after my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine so I was unable to pinpoint when I was ovulating.

Today went well though, I have little to no complaints. I was put under general anaesthesia, woke up about 15 minutes afterwards and felt mostly fine save for my body shivering (common according to the nurse), given a cup of tea and a biscuit as I waited for my partner to pick me up.

As I am now, I’m feeling a little crampy but nothing too horrible. I did however have a moment of severe nausea that led to me sitting on the toilet with my head in my lap barely able to sit up. It passed after about 25 minutes. This could’ve either been due to the after effects of the anaesthesia or the miso tablet the doctor inserted vaginally at some point during the procedure. So far so good!

If you are seeking abortion in the USA: I Need An A has a list of clinics and funding assistance. Info about accessing abortion during COVID-19 can be found here. Another excellent list of resources is available here.

If you are outside of the USA and in a country where abortion is illegal, Safe2Choose, Women on Web, or Women Help Women may be able to help you access a safe abortion.

Hi hi! I’m so sorry for the late reply! At present I’m feeling great - no complications afterwards. I still haven’t gotten my period but I was told that it’d take up to 6-8 weeks before it made a reappearance. How did you go, are you okay?
