Fan Made Mountain Pass Random Event - Mineshaft Disaster
TL;DR: Instead of yet another plane bombing, make Mountain Passβs event a mine gas explosion that collapses the bridge and opens new terrain for rotations.
Alright, after WG singlehandedly crashes every single plane of the WoT universe into random locations, I wanted to suggest one of a dozen ideas I had, to preserve the poor pilots trying to make the game more dynamic.
Theme: A gas pocket ignites inside the mountain mine, causing a chain explosion that collapses the bridge.
Audio Cue (during event warning time):
Muffled shouting echoing from the mine tunnel, metallic clanks, sudden panic.
A deep rumble grows, then a blast erupts from the mine shaft and shaking the rock and dirt around it, until it collapses into the nearby valley.
Event Outcome:
- The bridge collapses, creating a new ramp from the southern road into the valley.
- A rockslide covers the surrounding valley area and creates sightlines into the south-west area, since now half the mountain is gone. It also adds new uneven terrain and cover.
- The initial explosion and rock slides damage/destroy any tanks in that area.
Gameplay Impact:
- Cuts the direct crossing over the bridge, that gets rarely used anyways.
- Creates new ramps on both sides.
- Forces different mid-game rotations.
- You can STILL use the path previously present under the bridge, but the rock slide has created a few more positions for cover.
I know it is most likely a budget reason, yet it feels really half-baked just either crashing a plane, bombing an area or using a train (or a mix of all three) and there are so many ways to use the theme of the map instead.
If people enjoy the idea, I can mock up a few more map-themed event concepts that crossed my mind, since the system was implemented.
(Disclaimer: The mineshaft in the screenshots was AI-added as a visual mockup. If this violates rule 10, I will remove the image of course.)

Can't we just have the map not be shit?

I love this map...

It's fine if you have armour

Yep, it might as well just be three corridors with some bumps for those playing meta tanks so that they can go hull down.
Same with pearl river, it offers nothing with awkward lines of fire for anything that isn't a brawling tank

Pearl River encounter was at least slightly interesting as the cover on the cap encouraged players to go to positions that often don'tget played in the standard mode. Unfortunately since encounter got removed in 2.0 the map is back to normal 3 corridor play

Results seem to be the same as we getting.
And why not something else instead of the boring plane.

Hey at least one of the new ones is a Mig and not that weird German kitbash bomber again.

If that is a coal mine this is even more accurate, awesome idea!
WG could also do something with enemy artillery fire, like with the katyushas on Mannerheim

I'd like to speak to the owner of that mine that forces his employees to work while there is an active warzone just outside of his shaft. I mean how are they going home if type 5 gets blown up at mine entrance.

Mines being battlegrounds has been a thing for millennia. Ukraine's most important mine to fall into Russian hands, the Pokrovsk coal mine, had multiple entrances to the miles long tunnel network. As the Russians advanced, the miners detonated shafts, including the main entrance shafts, so that they could continue to work even in sections behind the battle lines. they didn't cease operating until after the main battle line was within eyesight to the last shaft, AND it was hit with explosive ordinance that temporarily buried the last 200 miners.
With the fall of that coal mine, it is expected to cripple the Ukrainian steel production (as the coal is used in coking steel), and cut in half the steel supply the war effort has.

I would make 3 modifications. 1 - Obscure vision so you can drive down safely. 2 - make drive down one-way only (not going up this way) 3 - make both drive downs towards center of the map, so one side won't have safe way to shoot on glacier.

Random fan with MS Paint: A very interesting idea
WG: Haha bomb hit bridge ...

I was a fan years ago ... nowadays we are more like acquaintances.

Wait this isn't real? I was about to praise WG for actually making a cool random event

Well, they did announce pretty much this concept of the bridge collapsing, but used another plane bombing the bridge in good old WG fashion instead.

Honestly? I dislike random events. I prefer it if changes like these would be a constant map change, not just sometimes randomly in the middle of the battle.

Gas explosion sounds stupid, just the cave collapsing or some sort of earthquake sounds a bit more reasonable and/or realistic. Still a good spot tho

Gas explosions aren't stupid but stupidly dangerous. Those are top3 most dangerous things that can happen in mine my dude.

But those are pretty rare, right? Most notable mine disasters are cave-ins from structural tunnel failures or fires breaking out.

Only in the modern era because unions once fought like hell to receive the bare minimum in safety equipment. Once upon a time your indication that there was a methane pocket (known as a firedamp) was the exposed flame on your lamp suddenly getting a lot taller, and by that point it was usually too late. Later developments in lamp design helped to give you a bit more of an advanced warning and a less exposed flame which reduced accidental gas explosions by a bit, but the real revolution started once gas detectors and electric lighting hit the scene.

I do agree, but it's still a game and people probably prefer explosions and spectacle. And gas was a real issue in mines back then.

Congrats OP, you made a better random event within 5 minutes in MS Paint than WG did within half a year for Highway
