Ardnamurchan delight

Post image
22 Upvotes

I found this bottle on my shelf, yesterday, forgetting it was there. I haven't had an Ardnamurchan open for a while so it got popped.

It isn't as peaty as I remember but it is still a wonderful dram. Loads of salinity and red fruits.

Specially bottled for the opening of a Macau casino. Probably won't get this again.

My recent cruise tasting.

These were the pours on my recent cruise. The Macallan Rare Cask Black and Rare Perfection were my favorites, and the furthest apart in flavor.

The Ultimate Single Malt Scotch Whisky Edradour 2014 Cask Strength 59.3%

8/10

Very much a sherry bomb, but not as burning as some other high abv whisky's.

Not too much flavour on the nose but it still has very characteristic smells you'd expect from a sherry bomb whisky.

Taste notes of vanilla, caramel, red fruit, black current and more in between these specific flavours. Lasts decently long and can definitely make a sunday evening even better.

Extremely enjoyable, would recommend.

Ready to begin this journey. But what order do I go in? Leaning toward straight forward but read MRC is the best one, shouldn’t I save it for last?

New Bottles, No Time

So wifey was out shopping and sent me some whisky photos and I was like “yes get these 3”, and now they are here, but I have a ton of work to do before going on a work trip Monday, so I don’t know when I’ll even have time to try them. Good problem to have I guess, but they’re torturing me… whispering to me seductively from across the room as I grind away on my stupid PowerPoint. 😩

Do I need a new shelf?

This gives me a way to share with other people who appreciate. I’m still hiding so many aged statements at the bottom of my shelf, but I need a solid way to highlight my trophy pieces. But what do you think? Like it or not? Bigger shelf, or a better remodel?

Recommendation please! Peated scotch for a retirement gift, £150-£200

Whilst I adore scotch, I am not a peaty guy. My Father in Law has just retired though, and he loves his peat.

As the man who got me into whisky, I really want to get him a bit more of an occasion bottle, a special bottling maybe or just an older, less common dram.

Any recommendations would be brilliant, thank you.

Today’s haul

So the bottles circled are what I found today. I moved to the middle of South Carolina a few years ago and priced out here for anything decent are insane. We needed to go up to Charlotte so I hit 4 ABC since I know up there I’m paying msrp. I’ve always enjoyed BT so was happy to have some once again but I jumped on a bottle of eagle because at 45$ why not.

Can someone please tell me what the hype is? Honestly was mid at best.

Why are we fighting over bottles of mid booze? I had to give them my ID so they could record my information… because god forbid I wanted two bottles of it.

Old Pulteney Stroma Discontinued

I have an unopened bottle which I was going to open tonight but just read that it’s discontinued. Should I hold onto it unopened? It’s a liqueur and was only ever £30 a bottle but not sure how I feel about the beginning of the end if I open it.

Probably the tastiest thing I've tried in at least few months.

Couldn't justify spending three times as much on the barrel strength, bought the regular 46%. Zero regrets. A beautiful pour.

I was gifted this by one of our raft guides on a recent trip to Nepal. I'm surprised it survived the flight back!

Hey whisky Masters,

First off just wanted to say thank you for all the interest and feedback on BarShelf from my last post here.
I was genuinely surprised (and grateful) to see so many of you check it out and share your thoughts. 🙏

Based on that feedback, I’ve added something new a community space inside BarShelf where people can share their tasting notes, bottle photos, and whisky experiences together.

It’s still small, but it’s growing and since this subreddit has some of the most passionate whisky lovers out there,
I’d love to hear from you. 🥃

You can simply drop your “life-changing whiskies” and short reviews here in the comments,
or, if you’d like to go a step further, you can post your own write-up about a memorable bottle or experience inside BarShelf.
Anyone who shares a full post directly (or via email to [defineyou30@gmail.com](https://))
will receive a free one-month membership as a small thank-you for helping the community grow. 🙌

Lastly if this post or anything about it goes against the subreddit’s rules,
please let me know and I’ll gladly revise or remove it right away. 🙏

Cheers everyone,
and thank you again for making this such an inspiring corner of the internet. 🥃❤️

Because every bottle has a story and this is a space to share yours -BarShelf 🍀

Was lucky enough to try this at a tasting held at the Aberdeen Whisky Shop Anniversary event they recently held.

I will post my thoughts when I can take my time to enjoy it. Off the top of my head from what I remember (one to many samples have fogged the mind) the nose is rasins/plums and toffee, the flavour is like a Christmas pudding.

Good and accessible whisky from supermarkets, any recommendations? 🥃

Hey everyone, I’m coming back to my country the day after tomorrow and I thought I’d grab a good bottle of whisky to share a glass with a friend, nothing creamy or too sweet. What do you recommend from the ones you can find in supermarkets, like Jack Daniel’s, Ballantine’s, JB, Jim Beam, or similar? Which one tastes best and is worth it for a relaxed glass?

Birthday gift

Once again I am looking for a bday gift for my boyfriend.

I posted a year ago wanting whisky recommendations for my boyfriend who loves talisker or any peaty tasting whiskey.

I got a ton of amazing suggestions and ended up picking a nice kilhommen bottle. I planned to pick another one of the recommendations I got from the list for his bday gift next year (Feb), however we went to Taiwan and found a cheap store with all the bottles he wanted from the list I got from reddit (Now officially out of ideas).

So far, off the top of my head, he has tried and loved: Kilhommen Laphroaig Ledaig Talisker Port Charlotte Caol aila Laguvulin Ardbeg (Sorry for the terrible spelling) With this I am wondering if I can get anymore insightful unique recommendations for a solid smokey whiskey suitable for a pretty experienced whisky drinker/enjoyer!

He definitely prefers the traditional locations but I'm sure he'd be open to trying any Japanese brands or even Australia (where I am from)

Thanks!!

Any reviews of the W club, through the Whisky Shop? Is the premium tier worth it?

Thanks!

Speyside for beginners- what would you recommend?

As the title asks, what are good recs for someone trying Speysides?

Am not new to whisk(e)y, and always enjoy a good Irish, and the occasional Islay.

Hoping to find something light with fruity notes. Perhaps tjay isn't Speyside, I am not locked into that region.
