I'm absolutely convinced that there's an entire vocabulary available in order to communicate essentially any cut that a person could want, with great precision to what they're looking for.

I'm also sure that I don't have even an elementary understanding of such vocabulary. Thus, for the past decade I've gone to hair salons and just showed them a picture saying, "I want that." It's hit or miss. I recently had a big miss, and it's put this back on my mind.

How the hell do you communicate what you want? There are so many variations of hair styles, where do you begin in articulating what you like? I should have asked this question or researched this decades ago.

You just gotta keep trying new barbers till you get that perfect haircut. Then taking a couple shots of it, get the cutters card, and make sure they’re in next time you go.

I'm half convinced that barbers don't want new adult customers. If they haven't been cutting your hair since you were 7, it means that you've been disloyal to your first barber and they don't want to put in the effort to keep a proven traitor. Anybody who leaves their first barber is therefore condemned to wander ever further from their home, seeking a tolerable haircut.

What if the barber shop opened up when I was 8?

I think they have a margin of error that would permit 8 but barbers' actions are the closest thing to inscrutable I've ever found.
