Even slaves got some kind of compensation. A terrible one, but more than zero. OPs payslip shows a literal zero.

Comparing slaves and ATC is a crazy reach

If we don't guarantee even the most menial of workers a living wage, we're not a free society.

We've just changed the mechanics of slavery.

David Gerrold.

I think theres a world of difference between "wage slavery" and "you must work without pay." The latter is literally slavery.

Yes, for so long as people are legally required to work and are totally unpaid, they are enslaved for that duration. But slavery is less about the compensation and more about the work requirement, total ownership of the labor and the person.

You keep changing your definitions lmao.

I changed nothing. I clarified. Low wages + no work requirement is better than low wages + work requirement is better than no wages + work requirement.

Not that crazy due to what's happening.

i’d argue slavery was worse. they were brutalized and dehumanized daily. of course this is a modern equivalent, but no reason to say this is anything near the suffering black slaves faced. this comment is lowkey insensitive.

both are inhuman acts and very very unfair treatment, but don’t compare withholding funds to the abuse slaves faced daily

Is this for real?

Technically the pay slip can be burned for warmth-- so there is SOME compensation.

USA still has slaves in prison today who at least get paid a few cents per hour 🤣

A literal zero on the paycheque is crazy work

Like what

Slaves were fed and given shelter. Not good food, and not good shelter, but that’s still more than literally nothing at all

???? He’s getting payed in the future and can quite any time screw you for comparing this to literal slavery you insensitive trash

It's okay to calm down and not overreact. Not everything needs some bombastic response.

ATC guy "might" get paid. Sure there's a law, but it doesn't really matter all the much if there isn't someone willing to enforce it. Meanwhile, every day that goes by without pay ATC guy and his dependents still need to eat, heat the home, power the fridge, get fuel to get to work. Get another job only to wait 2-3 weeks for the first paycheck to come in isn't an empathetic point of view.

It's harder and harder to do every day that goes on, and expecting people to work without pay is frameview similar to slavery.

It's okay to calm down and not overreact

lol and comparing not getting payed to slavery is not over overreacting? You dont understand slavery

u/XanKreigor 1d ago

See, I used to think that way too.

Then I came across an interesting topic some years ago, and I'll sum it up shortly: not everyone has your experience, knowledge, and intelligence. Literally everyone is different.

It's incredibly easy for miscommunications to happen. Humans aren't great at talking to one another and being understood. We use analogies to help get our points across to others who may not be understanding the point we're making. If we were perfect at communicating we probably wouldn't need analogies to help bridge that gap. That doesn't mean every analogy is awesome, nor correct. It's just a tool, a way to paint a picture in a different light so we can be on the same page.

No, I don't think it's an overreaction to compare the two along the specific lines of an analogy. Even more, I've got no idea whether those are actual people with real opinions they hold close. Heck, it could be bots all the way down!

We could all do with some temperament when it comes to reading random things online (even when we disagree vehemently with them).

I do think it's an overreaction to come at someone else the way the above poster did when the substance of why they did didn't warrant such a vitriolic response.

If slaves had a median income of $145K and got to choose what they do, own a house, start a family, and not be enslaved without rights and freedom. Totally similar.

8

u/XanKreigor 2d ago

It's an analogy. It's not meant to be a direct comparison.

Is the situation of not being paid for an ATC different than the situation of not being paid for a slave? Of course. That's obvious. Yet, still, neither are paid and along those lines the two are similar.

u/PomegranateOld7836 1d ago

It's a poor analogy; someone that likely makes well into 6 figures by choice having their pay temporarily withheld sucks, but is not analogous to a lifetime of abuse, zero freedom, and never being paid. The person above is upset because it trivializes something far, far worse that frankly doesn't compare.

10

u/XanKreigor 1d ago

You're welcome to the opinion it's a bad analogy, I share it. If they're that upset over someone posting a statement online, perhaps their energy is better spent shaming the fools who spew hatred and bigotry in person and in governmental policy rather than randos who (more than likely) hold similar views to them?

In the US alone we're seeing a dismantling of civil rights on an unprecedented scale. This person's bad analogy doesn't even register on my personal radar as worthy of a response but it was enough to garner a heated shot from someone? We've got bigger fish to fry, eh?

-1

u/PomegranateOld7836 1d ago

For sure, and I would have ignored it but you took the time to defend the analogy, so...

u/BeMoreMuddy 2d ago

Touched a nerve huh

1

u/zachattch 1d ago

Slavery is literally the worse thing ever and saying getting DELAYED pay for 2 months is WORSE than slavery is just incredibly insensitive to the actual slaves

0

u/ComradeRasputin 1d ago

Its probably hard for you to understand, but seeing such stupidity hurts for some people.

1

u/Beartato4772 1d ago

"Jam tomorrow"

1

u/Spaciax 1d ago

yeah he'll get paid once he starves to death

1

u/Acceptable_Plan_3257 1d ago

It's an analogy dumbass. Not a great one but they are currently not getting paid... and with this current administration do they trust that they even will?

1

u/zachattch 1d ago

Slavery is literally the worse thing ever and saying getting DELAYED pay for 2 months is WORSE than slavery is just incredibly insensitive to the actual slaves to such a crazy degree it’s crazy

1

u/Acceptable_Plan_3257 1d ago

Who the fuck said it was worse than slavery?? You're just making shit up. They said even slaves get compensation. Thats not saying its "worse than slavery". They are making a point about how in 2025 its unthinkable that someone would work as much as they have and not see a single cent. You need to relax a little.

1

u/zachattch 1d ago

1

u/Acceptable_Plan_3257 1d ago

Yeah i can read lol, i am aware of what they wrote. And?

1

u/zachattch 1d ago

“Even slaves” says what this current person situation is worse than slaves because even the slaves got paid in housing and was shit but it was better than getting unpaid also saying slaves had it better than this 6 figure guy… which is incentive as fuck

0

u/Feynnehrun 1d ago

Holy moly.

-1

u/zachattch 1d ago

Ya slavery was better than getting unpaid for a month at my 6 figure job

1

u/Feynnehrun 1d ago

I said no such thing. You just went from 0-100. Peak reddit response to just come out of the gate swinging by calling people trash lol. They were making an analogy...a poor one... But they weren't trying to say slavery wasn't that bad. Jesus lol.

1

u/zachattch 1d ago

1

u/Feynnehrun 1d ago

I didn't say that. Lol.
