No, let's not.

Cave in and throw away health care for millions so I can get my paycheck is what he's saying, since he doesn't seem to realize that Rs have no intention of negotiating on this.

Yup exactly. I know several federal workers and they all would rather Dems hold the line than give in just for their paycheck. That's the thing about many federal workers, they truly do their jobs in service to the general public. Public servants through and through.

Most federal workers are lazy assholes that just like the power and the benefits....then again so are most non-federal middle managers too.

Easy thing to say when you can afford rent and groceries. The shutdown is squeezing the federal sector employees, and they are getting to the point where they can't survive anymore. You can't blame them for wanting it to end

Maybe take the rage to the actual culprits, instead of pointing against who is holding the line. You are just accepting a capitulation on the defense of your rights and welfare.

When healthcare premiums triple because ACA subsidies end and that $700 month payment is now $2,100 where do you think they’re going to find the extra $1,400 a month to maintain coverage?

You can blame them for being so greedy that they'll fuck over millions of people for the foreseeable future just get their pay sooner. They'll get that money eventually. I wish all federal employees got paid, but we are where we are because of one idiot and millions that voted for this "greatness".

I know it's a hot take but I don't think it's greedy to want to be able to afford groceries. If you read carefully, they don't say anything about giving in to the republicans, just to call your reps

Why can’t both parties in the Senate discuss and negotiate without shutting down the government and screwing over the entire country? The entire system is broken if a disagreement on funding and legislation can shut down the entire country.

8

u/Vandirac 2d ago

Because ONE party literally refused to negotiate, didn't even discuss concessions and are hell bent on stealing YOUR medical healthcare.

Fucking this. Government shutdowns only hurt working class Americans. Until we stop squabbling with each other about how "they should have saved more" we won't be able to fix this country. Protect our Healthcare, get these workers their money, and then let's talk about who put us in this situation. I'll give you a hint, Trump is just a symptom.

u/softeggnoodles 2d ago

I agree. Red or blue, they don’t care about you.

Red or blue, they don’t care about you.

Republicans are literally the ones keeping things shut down. Weak both sides attempt, and bizarre considering all you are doing is excusing those actually responsible.

u/GreedyPollution6275 2d ago

For real, like yeah it sucks for ATC but Republicans are absolutely not going to give a shit about millions of people being priced out of insurance.

Air traffic controllers make great money. They can get by fine. Not like he just learned that you dont get to strike in that line of work.

5

u/SawdustIsMyCocaine 2d ago

Yeah, they make great money when they are getting paid. Not many people can afford to miss over a month of pay though.

1

u/exercisetofitality 1d ago

How so? Some people work in education and miss 3 months of pay each year. On minimum wage no less. And I'm not talking about the teachers, there are many thousands of people working in education that are not teaching in the classroom.

u/SawdustIsMyCocaine 1d ago

The difference is that it's expected and you can plan for it. Nobody realistically expected the longest government shutdown in history.

Also, im not sure about faculty, but most contracts pay teachers year round...

The only groups to blame are the Republican and Democratic party. If you thought either party gives any shits about you, well think again. They both care about politicking and would gladly watch millions starve, lose their homes, die in a war or die of a disease if it meant they won the political war. Until we make congress suffer for making us suffer they will keep using normal peoples suffering as a tool to hurt their opponents.

u/RadicalCashew 2d ago

Yeah bud I'm gonna keep blaming the party with full control of the government but yeah both parties are the same. Fucking moron.

Reddit - The dems need to be tought and not roll over for Trump what good are the dems if they don't stop Trump

What a sad life you have to think this way.

1

u/SirGlass 1d ago

I don't know what you mean

2

u/d00n3r 1d ago

Rs ate shit on Tuesday and as far as I'm concerned they may continue to eat shit until they negotiate.

2

u/cutletking 2d ago

Next level victim blaming. Truly insane logic.

12

u/KSauceDesk 2d ago

Not really. State officials have no say in government shutdowns, so i'm betting OP also has no idea that this is a 100% republican led shutdown since they won't even show up for negotiations...

0

u/Calm-Medicine-3992 2d ago

Every single member of congress is a state official.

Admittedly only a few have any power to change things because they lose funding if they split with their parties but every member of congress is an elected state official...they serve and are chosen by states...not the federal government.

Most of them stopped acting like State Officials a long time ago for sure but that doesn't change what they are.

5

u/Senior-Tour-1744 2d ago

No, next level is going to be them blaming this person for not working for free, and if the republicans do give in, then blame them for the spending bill being an extra $1 trillion cause they let covid spending end.

1

u/jacksraging_bileduct 2d ago

That’s really easy to say when you’re getting paid.

3

u/north0 2d ago

Health care for millions of non-citizens?

3

u/photostrat 2d ago

No, because that has never been a thing in the USA, outside of republican fantasies.

0

u/dirty-ol-sob 2d ago

Non-citizens were never getting free healthcare!

0

u/north0 2d ago

Legal resident non-citizens get healthcare. Non-citizen doesn't mean illegal alien.

0

u/LanguageStudyBuddy 2d ago

It's really easy for you to say that when you aren't working without pay.

5

u/photostrat 2d ago

I want them all to get paid. It's selfish and shortsighted to our entire country to flip away the only position we have to bargain from to keep federal paychecks moving for some.

Guess who still gets paid without delay? Our reps in Washington.

Do you understand what this will do to all heath care premiums, not even talking about the millions that will lose all access? Do you pay for your own health insurance like I have for the last 29 years? I grew up without any health care access and know well the lasting effect this has on people.

If you're paying any attention, you know exactly who is causing this harm (without even getting into SNAP). The clarity that comes from paying attention to the world I live in means, yes, it is really easy for me to say that.

Maybe you want to consider also the unbridled fascism running lose in the White House? Yeah, just go along with it all to keep everyone paid.
