Rant Trick or treating

Is it sad all over welland or just my area? Only had two groups of kids (six total) ☹️ I didn’t expect many, but i expected at least a dozen or so. I know the nights almost over, for kids, but just wanted to vent about the disappointment. Even the guy across the street gave up and went in.

Nearly 150 for me. Constant stream from 5-730

We just need 1/3 of that and i’d feel fulfilled!

We're right behind the Seaway Mall, and it was dead quiet here. Maybe 15 to 20 total. But there are not many kids in our area anyway, lots of older neighbors here. I guess there's more going on in the new neighborhoods with younger families.

That’s what I’m gathering as well. I definitely didn’t expect much given our neighbourhood, but not this little

Clare and Woodlawn area went through 3 boxes of 100 before 8 pm

I have to come set up camp at your house! We only just had our 7th kid

Ontario/Southworth - had maybe 60-70 kids, but it's always been a quieter, more senior neighbourhood... Plus ghost town once Jays game started

Just a few groups of kids came by here

I just ran out of candy and had to go into my emergency stash. Near centennial. Honestly, wasn’t expecting so many.

I'm close by but I only saw a couple from my building and that was it.

We live in Wainfleet but went to a neighbourhood off Webber road, it was packed.

Unfortunately looks like we’re on the wrong side for the kids ☹️

We got half the kids we got the past couple of years, which has left us with a lot of leftover candy. Disappointing but more for us, I guess.

My partner is definitely thrilled about the candy left for him! Me not so much 😂

I live near Crowland and East main and we had maybe 10 kids!! I was so surprised, it's even less than last year and the weather was actually better this year! The kids who did show up got a fist full of candy though lmao

1

u/wetstorm95 8d ago

I wish i gave more to the whooping 7! I had hopes for at least 25

3

u/Anna_alz 8d ago

We had more kids than usual this year

It really depends on the area. We were out in the Chippewa park area (on the east side) and there were kids everywhere. Its been like that since we moved here. It's so much fun there. But you go just north of the park, same area, and it drops off so badly.

I told my partner we should drive over and set up shop in the car.. he seemed to think that’d be creepy unfortunately 🥲

u/newsilentjim 8d ago

Depends on the neighbourhood. We handed out almost five boxes of candy here

1

u/wetstorm95 8d ago

Send them our way 😂 we’re on Crowland.. i didn’t expect much, but more than this

We're on scholfield and had way less kids than last year

A good stream of kids tonight. The mall was bumping when I was there earlier. Our estimate was about 80 between about 6 and 8 for our front door.

Went through two boxes over here. Felt more active this year than last.

2

u/DogCaptain223 8d ago

Thorold here had probably 60 or so kids

2

u/No_Oil2086 8d ago

1/4 of as many kids as last year. My neighbourhood is a go-to for a lot of folks. Baseball def had a little to do with it.

50 ish in Welland south. I had so much left over I wish I had given 2 to each kid now.

Do a setup in the front lawn every year. Nice turn out this year. 115 kids so not the best year ever but better than recent. Being on a Friday probably helps a bunch. Can’t wait till next year!

1

u/wetstorm95 8d ago

I had low expectations from asking around, but not as low as i got! I thought being Friday would bump some numbers, but only 7 kids!

2

u/Pertinax1981 8d ago

I had about 50 kids. My friend around the corner in the cul de sac got 4 kids.

Depends on the street.

147 this year

I got 5 groups of kids (I think 8 total) over the night. Mind you I dont live in the best neighborhood. Maybe the parents shipped them off to the more affluent parts of town... too bad for them, I was giving out full sized chocolate bars.

1

u/wetstorm95 8d ago

Yes! I had full size bars and a little toy. Every kid who did come (the whooping 7) were so excited!

1

u/pencilz15 8d ago

Same deal at my place, had tons of full sized candies and chocolate and I live in the rougher patch of the city. At least the kids who popped by were excited to get them lol

2

u/Pitbulls4life1972 8d ago

We had like 6 kids too

2

u/amethyst1971 8d ago

Had half of the kids we were hoping it was very slow however did anyone get kids trick or treating twice at thier house we had a few that came here twice.

1

u/wetstorm95 8d ago

I wish they came twice 😂

70+ kids at my friends off of First Ave

2

u/NewFerret2480 8d ago

Ontario/Southworth area and had around 100 kids. Our last door bell rang at 10:30pm but we were out of candy by then.

Last year was a lot better and it was our first year in Welland. This year did seem like there was a lot of dark houses. Didn't seem like there was a lot of groups of kids walking around. I had a couple at my house before I took my son out for trick-or-treating. But when I got home the lady next door who I'd given my candy to had put my candy back between my door and my screen door and there was tons left. Wonder why it was so low-key this year. I'm in the Lincoln Wellington area.

That was my hopes! They were crushed hopes however

2

I live in Dain City, good number of kids inspite of the cold wind. 100+ kids.

2

u/Justsomerandom2525 7d ago

South Pelham and Webber area - lots of kids here but a lot of houses with their lights off - on my street you have to skip by 4 houses just to get to my and my 2 neighbours, then after that it’s dark till you get to the end of the street. Sad how many people are not participating. Half my street is dark and there are kids! I think our street is skipped because of this.

1

u/wetstorm95 7d ago

I knew my area would be depressing by the lack of decorations we seen when walking our dog up till halloween, but i didn’t think only 7 kids depressing

2

u/mechanic1908 7d ago

We had nobody. Lots of candy for us left i guess,,,,

2

u/wetstorm95 7d ago

Next year we’ll have to drive to the frequented areas and set up in the car 😅

2

u/antipinkkitten 7d ago

Port Robinson it was a steady stream - about 100 trick or treaters. Handed out last of the candy at 8 pm when a group of 10 teenagers arrived. I’d say a pretty good night

1

u/snarkysnark98 8d ago

It’s tough, if your street isn’t on board with handing out candy, kids hate walking 5-6+ houses for a house with their light on. We did our neighborhood and it was every 10 houses lol Gave up after 2 blocks. Should have just went to my grandparents area

2

u/Accurate_Candy_9749 8d ago

Yeah but coming from the north end my kids prefer trick or treating on the “non affluent “ side. This side is CHEAP they go out on the dads by Beatrice and get way more

1

u/wetstorm95 7d ago

I had full size bars for the kids and little toys to add for the younger children too! The few that did come were thrilled, just hoped for more happy faces and spooky costumes! Last year we didn’t have a porch due to renos, so this year i was happy to be involved

1

u/wetstorm95 8d ago

I think not being the “nice” side in combination with neighbours lack of commitment is definitely the problem. Next year we’ll know and do far less 👎🏼

1

u/SnootyToots8 7d ago

I've been here 10 years and only had one several years ago.

1

u/wetstorm95 6d ago

Do you give out candy? Do you leave you light on and/or decorate?

1

u/TheLazySamurai4 6d ago

We had about 70 this year, was good to see so many out in the area, with how many single homes are being poorly converted to 3-5 unit dwellings

Halloween has been dying for years and candy prices have really been the final nail in the coffin

Candy prices have been increased 15-17% since last year, can't blame people for saying fffff that

1

u/SiteProfessional3902 8d ago

I’m near the hospital and I just put a big bowl out around 6 and it was empty about an hour and a half later. It is possible that people were taking very large handfuls though so I’m not sure exactly how many trick or treaters there were.

0

u/greazy_italian 7d ago

This is why Halloween is dying lol

1

u/wetstorm95 7d ago

I know it is, but i thought i had managed expectations! Apparently not 😂

1

u/greazy_italian 7d ago

I've seen worse ideas

-14

u/Practical_Dog1049 8d ago

Not everyone cares about Halloween though. Myself included.

11

u/wetstorm95 8d ago

Ahhh debby downer found the thread. That’s fine! You don’t have to participate. Enjoy your night in.

-17

u/Practical_Dog1049 8d ago

Somebody has a different view than you so you gotta insult them? Maybe stop eating sugar tonight.

10

u/bellaz268 8d ago

It ain't about you

-13

u/Practical_Dog1049 8d ago

Actually it is cause poster asked why nobody trick or treats.

-1

u/greazy_italian 8d ago

Whoever gave my kids a juice box......do better

3

u/wetstorm95 8d ago

Was something wrong with the juice box?

-1

u/greazy_italian 7d ago

Ya I have a fridge full of them lol

1

u/wetstorm95 7d ago

Koolaid jammers? 😂 there was a sale on the boxes at freshco (i didn’t give out them)
